Re: Weekly Randoms 10.1

  • I don't have my AS until next week but I've been having some serious anxiety about it. We got not great news with DD (everything ended up being fine after the high risk appointment) but I can't shake that fear I felt waiting. We have a funeral on Saturday and will also be at my in laws so I'll probably stress myself near to death before my appointment.

I had a lot of anxiety leading up to mine too. I hope time goes quickly for you and everything looks good.

La-A should be a bingo square. Every BMB, every time.

Someone intro'd in June saying she was pregnant last month but it "never implanted" therefore she never had a positive test, but she was still totes pregnant because she had all the symptoms so she definitely conceived. Her doctor told her so.

I found one!!! Legitimately - she was a coworker. And her legal name was La’a. But she pronounced it Lay-uh. But I’ve been looking for Ladasha for years and this was the closest I’ve came
  • Just got home a little bit ago from my anatomy scan. Everything looked healthy and normal. And it's a boy!! Now we will have one of each. We are super pumped.
Thanks for thinking of me @babybro218 hope you are doing well too!
So glad it went well!  Congrats on the news that it's a boy!!  Ours went well, too.  Baby looked great and was moving around like crazy.  Tech confirmed for us that it's a boy, but we're not going to tell anyone...If we can keep the secret :)
That's awesome. Mine was moving around like crazy too. (Might have been the coffee. Oops) The tech actually asked me if I had caffeine. It took a while for her to get the look she needed to say boy, but she seemed pretty certain. She pointed out the "scrotum" and said it looks like he penis is kinda smashed against his leg. I turned to DH and said you know how that goes. Haha she probably thought I was crazy.
  • So just curious: did you and you significant others joke or laugh or seem happy in the US visits? Both with my NT Scan and AS the techs seemed surprised that DH and I were in great moods and joking with eachother, happy and laughing. The AS tech said it was great and made her day because everyone was always so quiet and serious, even when it was good news. I was just wondering if DH and I were just odd.

Totally not joking and laughing. And I cried. And SO was dealing with issues on his unit while we were in ultrasound so that didn’t help the fact that were were already nervous and stressed out.
  • @smorzandoj So we are odd. I mean I understand about being scared with Ultrasounds. I think we were quiet in the NT Scan until the tech gave us great measurements. Then we were laughing at how much a wiggle worm baby was. At the AS, we were calmer then when we could see things were great (especially when I had to dance around to get LO to reposition himself for the cardiac scan) it was just like a celebration almost.

  • @rainafire77 it could also be that I’ve had bad news at these appointments before...once that happens they are a never ending hell.
  • And believe me, I'm not talking laughing during scans where you are getting bad news or if the tech is the "I can't tell you anything" type. I mean when you're getting the all clear type of scan which is all good news.

@rainafire77  I was pretty miserable leading up to the A/S because I was SO nervous, but DH was so excited and when we got in there and the tech did her thing, I relaxed and we laughed/giggled through the whole thing. It was fun.

@smorzandoj I cried too. Sorry about the added stress during, but I hope everything turned out okay.

ETA: additional response because I didn't see it until I'd sent this one.
  • @smorzandoj I really hope I didn't upset ypu.

I'd say we had a mix of both. A cautious silence mixed with quiet jokes. We were definitely hanging in the tech's every word and noise.
  • I don't think it odd either way. I think I was more quiet and reserved with my first and today I was kinda laid back and cracking jokes.
  • @smorzandoj I really hope I didn't upset ypu.
Unless you are the jerk at Starbucks that screwed up my chai you didn’t upset me. No worries.
    Um yeah...sorry about the chai.

  • We’re not miserable at ultrasounds but I always am nervous. My first ultrasound ever I got terrible news so it kind of ruined them forever, but once I get the all clear during one I do enjoy them!

We had our AS today and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Baby girl looks great and was super wiggly, but the doctor came in after the tech and said they are concerned about the size of her chin and that she probably has micrognathia (small chin), which could resolve itself or could be a symptom of a syndrome or something and if severe enough could cause breathing and feeding issues when she’s born. We’re going back in six weeks to see if there’s any improvement, but she couldn’t tell us if she thought it looked significant or what the chances were it would resolve so I’m trying not to freak out about it. She said if it didn’t resolve during pregnancy than I may have to deliver at a different hospital and they would have craniofacial specialists present and that a special needs nurse would be in contact to prepare for the birth and that all just made it seem like a big deal. Except she also made it seem like it wasn’t a huge deal so I really don’t know how to feel about it. Thankfully she looked very healthy otherwise so I’m just trying to focus on that until we know more. Anyone have any experience with micrognathia? I didn’t even know it was a thing!

  • @winnie1122 wow I'm sorry! I'm sure these next 6 weeks will be difficult. I hope everything resolves itself and isn't related to anything else. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Praying for a good outcome @winnie1122

Ive been MIA today. My mom ended up going to the ER after  severe abdominal pain and a seizure. :(. She seems fine now but they have no idea what caused it. Anyway

with DS  I brought a preemie, newborn, and a  0-3.  He ended up coming home in the preemie at 7lbs 14oz. It was snug but the NB was HUGE. It definitely doesn’t hurt to be prepared

ETA: i just meant  you are planning to buy a special or monogrammed outfit… I would bet on newborn instead of any other size. Unless your family has a history or large babies :)

  • @Starynightsky24 I hope your mom is okay! I'm sorry I bet that was scary.
  • @winnie1122 the most common syndrome associated with micrognathia is Pierre Robins Syndrome (PRS.) I know this because one of my kids sees a craniofacial team for cleft lip & palate and there are kids i've met with PRS. It is often accompanied by a cleft palate.

If the repeat scans do show this, having a nurse coordinator is a huge blessing as they can help you plan for feeding and medical needs. Also, if your baby turns out to have this, a group on FB called "Cleft Mom Support" is awesome. Will be praying for you as you wait for answers and feel free to ask me anything
  • @Starynightsky24 Hope your mom is feeling better, how scary!!

@3plus1equals4 Thanks, that’s what I was reading and I am definitely thankful that they will be proactive if this turns out to be a major thing! It didn’t look like she had a cleft lip since we could see her lips in the 4d part of the scan, but it still sounded like feeding can be a big struggle if the jaw is significantly smaller than normal so I’m sure a lot of the plan is similar. Was breastfeeding out of the question with your baby with cleft lip/palate?

@winnie1122 PRS is associated with cleft palate only, not the lip, so it makes sense her lip was seen in tact. The palate is the roof of the mouth and if affected, can make it so that there isn't suction to nurse. There are special feeding bottles that don't use suction or feeding tubes can be utilized. The tongue placement can interfere with swallowing/breathing if the micrognathia is severe.

My son's cleft affected his lip, gum, and palate all the way from front to back (PRS is usually confined to the soft part of the palate in the back.) In his case, he couldn't nurse at all and so I pumped and fed him with a Medela brand specialty bottle.
  • @3plus1equals4 Thank you, good to know! I’m trying not to over Google until we have a sure diagnosis, but I still want to be prepared for whatever we find out. Breastfeeding was hard the first few months with DS as it was, but I was also super emotional about making it work so I know that I’ll have to prepare myself to be adaptable with that.

  • Praying for you @winnie1122!

sorry I spaced out. The glucose test ended up really knocking me on my ass. I am just now getting home. Lame.
  • We joke and laughed at ours, most of the time it’s the techs that are more quiet. @winnie1122 I will be praying for you and your sweet baby girl, but many times they can be wrong on the ultrasounds. I’ve have several times they were curious about something and it turned out fine and my sister had a scare with her youngest as well that turned out to be fine. Will be praying for your mom as well @Starynightsky24
  • @winnie1122 thinking of you and your LO. I know these next 6 weeks are going to be rough. Please reach out whenever you need!
  • @winnie1122 sending you and your precious girl positive vibes! Keep us updated.

Im watching babies behind bars on Netflix. I feel about 134 things at once.
  • @winnie1122 I'm really sorry to hear about the anatomy scan! I really hope everything turns out to be okay in 6 weeks!

We had our anatomy scan on Thursday and my doctors office called me Friday and asked me to come in today (Tuesday). That's never good!
So I went for my appointment and they have found choroid plexus cysts on the brain (i think that's the spelling). Essentially it can be an indicator of Trisomy 18. They can either resolve themselves or we will see other indicators of the symptoms (I'm assuming)
Our DS had the same cysts show up on his ultrasound and luckily they resolved on their own at our next scan about a month later.
We are being referred to a high risk OB and we will see what they have to say. I am hoping this resolves on it's own again but I can't help but worry!

  • So I started having these strange dreams. One dream where a man pulled a gun on me in the middle of traffick broad daylight. ☹ am I the only one experiencing these hectic NIGHTMARES, I'm very superstitious.
