  • One more teacher here! I teach middle school and high school Spanish.  I go back tomorrow and kids will be there next week.  I'm already worried about maternity leave.  In my area, it's not uncommon to not be able to find a long term sub and especially one that can speak Spanish. Thankfully I have until April to get it figured out!

Man, all of you have way more interesting jobs than I do.  I'm the pasty faced nerd in the back room crunching numbers and poking at financial statements for fun.  Which is facinating to me, but absolutely no one else.

@jilliant26 the one i worked on the most was an IRMS isotope ratio mass spectrometer. It focused on carbon and nitrogen isotopes. We had other MS but that was the main one I worked on. I really liked that job. Then I worked for a company that manufactured instruments that mostly measured salt in water. I tested them to make sure they worked before the were shipped out. I hated that job and that's when I decided to go back to school to be a teacher.

Edit to add the company names 1st was stable isotope facility and 2nd insitu. I have thought about medical labs but I don't think I am qualified.
Ah, currently no MS in our lab yet, though we may be getting it in the next couple years for identification of bacterial isolates from cultures.

Would depend on the lab and what sort of accreditation they have to determine what education or certification you would need to qualify. Some states require licensure also.

  • I'm an x-ray tech.  I'm also a mammo tech, but the place I work right now doesn't have mammo.

@mcg920 I first read that as "assistant professor in the communism department..." and I was all, "interesting!  I need to know more!"

...then it struck me how unlikely that scenario would be.
  • I've been a SAHM for about a year and a half. Before that I worked in payroll.
  • I am accountant and do bookkeeping and taxes.
  • I was also a special education teacher before DS came, but now I watch a couple other children at their home and take him with me!
  • For the past 7 years I was a part time high school English teacher, but this is my first year as an administrator (Fine Arts Director). I also direct our school's musicals. The other days I'm a SAHM!

@1fish2fishredfish your job sounds amazing!!! I would love to go back for my Doctorate but not sure I want to take out any more loans.

The loans are absolutely soul crushing.  The doctorate was a very costly bucket list item.  I'd say I wouldn't do it again, but I REALLY wanted to earn that degree.
