irritating. Plus I know for all of my tests I had the hope that they’d find
something that could fix my RPL, and yet at the same time, the hope that there
wasn’t anything wrong (or at least nothing wrong that couldn’t be fixed). It’s

AFM Heard back from RE's office regarding our insurance coverage. DH is covered for diagnosis, but not treatment. I'm covered for diagnosis and treatment. I'm limited to 3 rounds of IUI and 2 rounds of IVF, but only 4 rounds of meds. Off the record their insurance adviser suggested that we pay OOP for the first IUI since it will probably be clomid. That way we will have coverage for meds for the 2nd IVF cycle if we need it. I'm excited to get this show on the road, and I'm thankful that we have coverage. At the same time there's some finality to it. First medicated cycle will probably be October. From there once the coverage runs out we'll probably have to be done. Let's face it, unless we won the lottery I probably wouldn't be able to rationalize paying for a 3rd round of IVF OOP, not that we could afford it anyways.
@BusinessWife I am at work today so won't be able to check in until later but I have FX so hard for you today! Will be looking for your update as soon as I get home.

AFM: I finally got a call from my coordinator last night that we are good to move into next steps. We need to schedule an appt with the RE and schedule an appt with the DE social worker. Once those are done we wait for insurance authorization (this could take anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks) and then...we pick the donor. Once we are matched with the donor it will be about 8 weeks until we cycle which puts us in November. It sounds so far away but we have so much planned between now and then I think it will fly by. I hope you are all gone to BMBs and I'm all alone by then.

Jumping on to @dpjennifer's post about IVF insurance coverage. To those of you who have it, would you mind sharing your insurance provider and/or plan?

@dpjennifer Do you get insurance through your job/YH's job or the open market place? If it's through an employer you may not have many options. Most of the time the different insurance options provided by employers all cover the same stuff and just have different deductibles, co insurance rates, and max out of pocket amounts. On the open market place you'll have more (but pricier) options.
While I'm grateful for the coverage I have I'm frustrated by it as well. I live in Illinois, and we have the strongest mandate in the country for infertility coverage. By state law if you live and work in Illinois, the company has 25 or more employees, and the employer doesn't self-fund the insurance plan, then the plan has to cover almost all infertility costs (including treatment with donor eggs/sperm if medically necessary) including up to 6 egg retrievals. However, my company has locations across the US, and they chose to base the insurance plans in Connecticut. So even though the people I elected to my state government want me to have this coverage and the company doesn't meet any of the exceptions, I still don't get the coverage because the company can base the plan in another state where they have a location. I generally try not to get political on here, but healthcare is a big topic right now and there's been discussion that the states can make mandates instead of the federal government. This is what happens though when mandates differ state by state. Companies that have locations in different states (which is pretty common) can pick and choose which state to base the plan in so that they don't have to follow the mandates. I'm incredibly lucky that I have the coverage that I have. Please don't think that my rant means that I'm not grateful. But people are getting screwed over by this and it sucks to watch. My SIL who also lives in Illinois had to pay for all of her infertility treatment (several rounds of IUI and IVF and a surgery) OOP because her company based her insurance in Minnesota instead of Illinois.
@KariAnn323 I HATE when companies use stupid loop-holes like that! SO frustrating! I am a FED actually, so I have a ton of insurance coverage options through the Govt (but not the marketplace). Currently I have FEP BC/BS but it doesn't cover IVF. I may look into our Aetna. Any other suggestions from peeps?

@dpjennifer DHs law firm is based in Chicago, so even though we're in NY, we have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, which covers a lot of IF treatment, but I don't remember exactly what, though I'd guess a fair amount given what @KariAnn323 said about IL law. Just throwing it out there in case there's a similar option for you in the govt plan.
@BertieMeetsGertie Our insurance is Aetna through my husbands job. His job is based out of NYC though and we live in CT, so I don't know if we have NY Aetna or CT Aetna
I also have great IVF coverage through BCBS Anthem but it doesn't really matter the insurance company, it is the plan the employer picks.

@BertieMeetsGertie So my employer is based in Maryland, which is one of 15 states that mandate IF coverage in their insurance plans, however Virginia is a state that does not (where I live) So my insurance through CIGNA (the POS plan) has coverage (again I don't know if that is because my employer is in Maryland or that's just how the plan is)
After my appointment (and I have the codes and whatnot) I'm going to call again to get more in depth on coverage, and will ask about the state situation, if that changes anything.

Aloha, everyone! I got a short update from @BusinessWife and she said I could share the news. (She is battling a headache, so she probably won't be giving us a full update until tomorrow.) Her DH's surgery went well and they were able to extract sperm during the procedure!!! I can't wait to hear the full details from her when she's feeling better, but I know I'm not the only one who has been holding my breath for an update. ETA: I'm seriously bubbling over with joy and happiness for her and her DH!

8/17: third IUI, 5.0 letrozole,
While I'm grateful for the coverage I have I'm frustrated by it as well. I live in Illinois, and we have the strongest mandate in the country for infertility coverage. By state law if you live and work in Illinois, the company has 25 or more employees, and the employer doesn't self-fund the insurance plan, then the plan has to cover almost all infertility costs (including treatment with donor eggs/sperm if medically necessary) including up to 6 egg retrievals. However, my company has locations across the US, and they chose to base the insurance plans in Connecticut. So even though the people I elected to my state government want me to have this coverage and the company doesn't meet any of the exceptions, I still don't get the coverage because the company can base the plan in another state where they have a location. I generally try not to get political on here, but healthcare is a big topic right now and there's been discussion that the states can make mandates instead of the federal government. This is what happens though when mandates differ state by state. Companies that have locations in different states (which is pretty common) can pick and choose which state to base the plan in so that they don't have to follow the mandates. I'm incredibly lucky that I have the coverage that I have. Please don't think that my rant means that I'm not grateful. But people are getting screwed over by this and it sucks to watch. My SIL who also lives in Illinois had to pay for all of her infertility treatment (several rounds of IUI and IVF and a surgery) OOP because her company based her insurance in Minnesota instead of Illinois.

@dpjennifer DHs law firm is based in Chicago, so even though we're in NY, we have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, which covers a lot of IF treatment, but I don't remember exactly what, though I'd guess a fair amount given what @KariAnn323 said about IL law. Just throwing it out there in case there's a similar option for you in the govt plan.

@KariAnn323 I'm sorry your coverage isn't as great as it could be and I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm right on that soapbox with you, especially since my state mandates NOTHING IF wise. But it's amazing that you still have so many options and I hope one of them is just the ticket for you!!
