@slaven Also, any baby would be active if you had sugar, caffeine, etc around the time of the appointment. SO many things go into whether he baby is bouncing around or not - I find it hard to believe that one sex is more wiggly than another.
@ElizabethSchuyler So glad every is okay! @slaven That really stinks. I'm sorry:/ Knowing that they said it but it might be too early to really know and they didn't really come out and say it...all of that ambiguity makes it even worse than just knowing the gender when you didn't want to:/
@MississippiCatfish I am so confused on suggested weight gains up to this point. I am 13w6d, so a few days behind you, but I have only gained 4 pounds since the start of my pregnancy. And I gained that in the first 9 weeks, nothing since. So I am paranoid now....
@slaven it's illegal to say the sex of the baby? Wow learn something new every day!
It's illegal in most Asian countries to share sex of child. Sad truth but it's because people kill/abort girl infants because of various cultural beliefs. I unfortunately grew up in a culture where I saw and still see women being blamed for the sex of the child and worse families asking Drs to abort the child because it is a girl. We are very lucky to live in a world where even though there are inequalities, parents a still mostly happy to just have a healthy child.
Along the lines of weight gain... does anybody know if it's normal to count total weight gained (so you lose weight but then count as you gain from there), or only the weight gained above your starting point?
Going to try to remember to ask at next appointment, just curious if anyone has heard.
@DuchessOfCambridge aww hiiii! I totally meant to lurk/participate both here and October, but I've been barely keeping up even over there! I miss you ladies too!
As an update, I found out that I'm carrying mo/di identical twins (each in their own amniotic sac so less risky than mo/mo which we originally thought), both currently measuring right on track, and we're hoping to find out the gender on Monday!!
@DuchessofCambridge WTF did I just read? We really need to emphasize education more. A basic level of science literacy would be so helpful to everyone, I think. Also, a good emphasis on critical thinking and honing a good bullshit detector would serve everyone well.

Guys I need some help here. My anxiety is flaring up. This is not me. I have my OB appt in an hour and my brain just cannot relax. I'm not sure why I'm feeling this. Maybe because it's been two weeks and my genetic testing is still not back or perhaps I'm just a nervous wreck after my previous loss. I have a 10 min walk to the dr. I don't know if I can walk alone. I called my husband but he seems busy. My fault should have told him to come with me today. Frankly there is no reason for this anxiety to crop up but it is cropping up. I need to calm down!!! Am I going crazy? Do others feel nervous or anxious before appointments?
@ShePersisted take some deep breaths and really focus on counting them. It's totally normal to feel anxious about appointments , anxiety is a part of pregnancy for some. Try to breathe and remember that it's going to be okay. Take things one step at at time. Right now all you need to be able to do is walk for 10 minutes. Focus on that. Don't think aboit where your going or why. Baby steps. Out of the house. 10 minutes walk. You can do it!
@DuchessOfCambridge I just can't. WTF? @ShePersisted I'm a nervous wreck before/during each appointment. Until the OB says things are fine. Then the minute I leave I become anxious again until the next one.
@ShePersisted I've been anxious before every appointment, even though it's all been going fine. I brace myself for bad news, and then it doesn't come. I'm sorry you're so stressed! I don't know if this will be helpful but the risk is now so small and at this moment, you are pregnant. Would it help you to listen to a few favorite songs on your walk to your OB? Or maybe a phone call with a friend or your DH so you don't feel so alone? Wishing you an amazing appointment!
@DuchessOfCambridge thank you. This feeling is new. I never felt this way with my first even though I had a previous loss. It's just taking me by surprise as I'm not like this in general at all. I probably did not realize how I've changed. Im better. Walking right now. Walking and bumping which is probably not safe so will connect back after. Thanks again ladies!! You are the best.
@ShePersisted I second everything said so far. Can you call DH on your walk over? Also, demand those results. I am ALWAYS anxious before appointments. The second I hear that heartbeat I am relieved until the next appointment.
@ShePersisted I get anxious before every appointment too. I second @bcashaw on the deep breaths with counting. I usually breathe in slowly for 5 counts, pause, breathe out slowly for 7 counts, pause, repeat. Sometimes, it helps if I mentally tell myself it's OK to feel anxious while doing the breathing exercises. Sometimes trying to fight down the anxiety just makes it worse. Also, break the task into as many tiny pieces as you need. "First, I just need to pack my stuff up and walk out the door". "Now I just have to walk one block", walk one more block, walk to the stop light, etc. Good luck with your appointment and I hope everything turns out wonderfully.

I'm going from my starting point. But really don't hyperdocus on it, just eat the best you can and take care of yourself.

You know what's annoying? When you can't find important paperwork. I remember putting it some place obvious so I wouldn't lose it... I've lost it. I have a follow up appointment with a urologist and he gave me a bunch of paperwork including some lab requisitions for either June or July and I just cannot find where I put them. How irritating. UGH.
Guys my hunch was right. My genetic testing came back inconclusive again. Same reason. Low Fetal Fraction. I am so so bummed. Dr does think that statistically studies have shown that women who have inconclusive results twice have higher risk of something being an issue and that I had the option of doing an amnio if I wanted to know for certain. I asked him if I could try another screen next week and then decide and he said that's ok. Baby looked good otherwise :-). I'm very bummed and feel a little sad. I know there is still a much higher chance baby is just fine but the next 4 weeks are going to be harrowing trying to see if everything is ok.
I'm sorry, @ShePersisted. The not knowing sounds awful. On the other hand, I think it's a good sign that baby looked good otherwise. I'm glad you got to do the screening again next week. How long for results?
@ShePersisted I get extremely anxious before appointments, too. To the point where I am shaking and almost in tears if I have to wait too long. I keep meaning to ask them if they can take my BP after the appt instead of before because I'm sure it is elevated before. PGAL brain is not easy to deal with. Even between appointments I am always worried about if baby is ok. i hope you have a good appointment today and get reassurance that things are fine!!
@DuchessOfCambridge I don't even know where to start with the vaccines. So much misinformation! Funny because those mamas who are having boys have male DNA floating around our bodies at this very moment...
Getting ready to go to the gym...one thing I didn't anticipate about pregnancy was how quickly my workout clothes stopped fitting! I mean, they're stretchy, so...wtf? Gonna have to shell out for some maternity leggings here soon.
@kissthesky32 It was early but I don't think they said it meaning it's a boy because it's wiggly. Due to the high rates of abortion of girl babies in many Asian countries they legally can't tell you, but they'll say things like that to tell you "legally". So we had noticed and made comments on baby's movements and then the dr went off that to tell us. We're still waiting for more scans further along so we'll see.
@ShePersisted sorry to hear that, we must have been posting at the same time. I hope you get your results back soon and they show that everything is ok.
@ShePersisted I'm so sorry you got inconclusive results again. It's great baby looks good otherwise but sucks so much youll be worrying. Hope next week's appointment is absolutely perfect.
