@vauxthekate I love Josephine Noel! I mentioned it earlier in the post, but I really want to use Josephine as a MN because my mom and I have Jo as a middle name, after Josephine from Little Women.
That's awesome, my moms middle name is Jo too! Part of the reason we love the name!
I work across the hall from a preschool in rural Michigan and the current trend in "overdone" names is girls names that shorten to or contain Ella and boys names that are some variation on Jack (Jax, Jackson).
I am trying to avoid the top 50 names as I would rather my kid not share a name with a classmate. I also know there are no guarantees. A friend gave her daughter a rare name and she has usually shared it with a classmate. Her son Jack has never shared with a classmate!
@Amber_Waves, there really is no guarantee! I gave my daughter a name that is ranked in the 100s somewhere and then my MIL's first name as her middle. Well, my MIL has a friend with the same name, whose daughter had a baby at the same time as me, and gave her daughter THE EXACT SAME NAME. We don't know each other, or live in the same state, but my point is that kids will have your kid's name. It is what it is. I've given up caring. (Well, I care a little. But it will never be as bad as myself growing up with 5 or 6 others in the same class.)
@cait5413- we thought about that but my father in law remarried and my dh's stepbrother's name is JP. It can't be done. I am busy brainstorming nicknames/names so I don't have to call this child John if it happens to be a boy. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
Too bad! You could do Pruett John--PJ could be a boy, too.
Jack is a nickname for John. I like it, but it has gotten more popular in recent years, if that's a concern. JJ, if you can find another J name you like as a middle. Jay. My husband's grandfather's name was Johnstone (yes, his first name), which I think is kind of hilarious and awesome. The only other nickname from that would be Stone, though, I guess, which is kind of odd--or Rocky, maybe.
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
I have no idea why DH and I keep picking top 5 names; it's not on purpose. DS has 2 other Lucas' in his class. We are 99% sure baby girl's name is Mia Lucianna. Another top 5 but whatevs. Lol!
We honestly haven't even talked about names yet this time around. My boys are Clay & Cohen. Surprisingly in 2016, Cohen was ranked like 300 and something while Clay was in the 600's. If they would of been girls they would of been Claire and Caroline. In the last year, we know of at least 4 little Claire's so that one would be off the table. Not sure if we would stick to another C name or not for this baby... We have a hard time agreeing on names, all the names he likes I hate and vice versa! I can't remember if posted in this thread earlier or not, but I didn't feel like scrolling back to look.
I also really like Willa for a girl, but was shot down on that one. A guilty pleasure name is Magnolia, however I would never use it. Am I the only one that scans the credits at the end of tv shows or movies looking for names??
@tmk0325 I have been trying to find inspiration for boys names everywhere too! I've looked in books, movies, and even musicians names hoping something will jump out at me!
@tmk0325 I totally scan credits for name ideas! I'm looking everywhere for inspiration, but I'm just not confident we'll ever agree on a boy's name.
Willa will be LOs nn if it's a girl (Wilhelmina Diana) and if we somehow end up with three girls, girl #3 will be Magnolia Josephine, if I can get DH on board.
Dh continues to bring up the name that I told him 100 times that I hate. To any of our friends during our "we r expecting" conversations. Angry face angry face

@AMCsquared UGH. How you can get through to him that his continued campaign makes you feel unimportant and unsupported at a time when you need to feel cherished and important? If you were my friend IRL, I would stand there counting the mentions on my fingers and then kick him in the peen that many times.
@amiec-2 I love the name Meadow! Also, the theater names are great, especially Angel and Collins! My family and I are big Rentheads
@brittyclem Marigold is such a sweet name. I love flower names. A friend of mine named one of her daughters Zinnia, nn Zinny, and I think it's so cute!
he likes Dexter for a boy but I have about 8 people on my Facebook with kids born in the last year called Dexter plus my 17 month old was gonna be called that but we decided on Ellis instead so if it wasn't good enough for him why would it be good enough for the new baby if it's a boy?
he likes the name Marley for a girl but we already have a Millie and a Charlie and it just sounds like we have put their names together so seems a bit weird
With my first baby I was so convinced that she should be named Ella that I would pat my belly and call her Ella repeatedly. Hubby didn't fall for it. And now I'm glad because she would have been 1 of a million Ella's. I think it did get him thinking that way though because we ended up with Elaina.
Boys Names: Declan, Kellen, or Sam (Samuel) Girl Names: Eloise, Eleanor, Edith, or Molly
I am totally torn - these names have not gone through DH and I know well enough to wait long enough before I present them - if he vetoes my favorites I'll be sad!!! Needless to say he mentioned I get to pick this time, as he picked our DD out of my list (Amelia, Claire, and Reese) and he was adamant and picked our DS, Patrick, all by himself - I was told I would learn to love it. Which I absolutely do, now and I couldn't imagine another name. I wasn't really sold on a boy name which made it easier for me to give in.

@tmk0325 I have 2 friends that named their daughters Claire this year. Edited: spelling
But, Claire is an adorable name (I am totally bias)! My DD is a 2011 baby, named Claire, and it was #51 at the time - it's now at #40 I think - but I don't think it will be a name that will climb the charts. We have yet to meet another Claire her age in any sports or classes, yet! Doesn't mean it won't happen, but it isn't the same as "Sophia and Caroline" I hear those names everywhere!!!
Since we're officially team pink, this LO is Wilhelmina Diana, nn Willa. So relieved that we don't have to worry about boy names for another couple of years!
@tmk0325vvitchhazel I love the name Magnolia! Once again, I'm a sucker for flower names lol.
Also, @tmk0325 I totally check out the credits for name ideas!
atack I had a friend from camp named Kellen and I always really liked his name. Plus he was just a really nice guy, so it definitely has a positive association for me.
What do you all think about Alessia for a girl? I haven't run it by DH yet but I came across it the other day and I kind of like it. It would be Alessia Laurelle.
@lijuan09 I have a friend with a son named Alessio and I love it! Alessia is really pretty and I think it's a nice change from Alyssa and Alicia. It does slightly remind me of Alessa from Silent Hill, but I'm sure most people wouldn't make that association!
@lijuan09, Alessia is very pretty! Just be aware that Alessia Cara is a pretty famous pop star. I don't see that as a problem, but I know it would bother some, so I thought I'd mention it.
I just asked DH what he thought about Blair for a girl and he said "only if her middle name can be witch or Waldorf" honestly I am impressed by the fact that he retained Blair Waldorf's name even though the name is a no.
We can't agree on names at all. DD is Finlee. DS is Rhett.
If this baby is a boy I would love to name him Forrest but some doucher named Tom Hanks ruined that for me. DH wants to do Michael (Jr), Richard (grandfather's name and my #1 absolutely no never name), or Jude. I dislike each of those. If baby is a girl DH likes the name Winnie. I don't mind it but I feel like it's almost too sing songy with DD's name. I prefer the name Evelyn for a girl.
speach13 I agree that Winnie and Finlee are a little too close and sing songy. Someone recommended the babyname app, that might be useful for you and DH. It's like Tinder but with baby names but you can also sync up with DH so you can compare the names you both liked.
I decided to stop telling my family the names the names we like since their reactions are mehhh. We aren't looking into any additional names until we know the gender on 6/5!
@Amber_Waves I've told him it makes me feel so disrespected and he still doesn't get it. Keeps saying it was a sign from God since it came from a dream and we can't disrespect god. I like your idea of kicking him in the peen.
Me: 31 DH: 32 DH since 12.2009 Married 08.2013 EDD 12.2017
Now that we know we are team blue we have soooo many baby boy names we love. Some of them seem a little weird to people but we are not intimidated by unique. We are pretty much the Addams family of our neighborhood (or to the kids The Halloween House), we drive a hearse, we collect oddities (the crown of our collection being Mort the human skull), books, and guitars. We are weird positive in this home. Almost every one is a literary reference which is big for me as DH and I are together because of a book store.
Sherlock (after Holmes), Neil (after Neil Gaiman), Silas (from The Graveyard Book), Cassidy (from Preacher), Louis (Interview With A Vampire, also a version of DH's mn) , Gibson (DH owns a guitar repair business I told him no to Les Paul but I thing Gibson or Gibs for short is too cute), Victor (Frankenstein & Tim Burton), Winston (aka Widget from The Nigh Circus), Dorian (The Picture Of Dorian Gray), Lucien (DH and I looove the book Sacre Bleu by Christopher Moore), Pipkin (The Halloween Tree), and Toulouse (Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec a favorite painter and a character in many books/movies we love especially since DH is an absinthe connoisseur)
Our top contender for a boy name is not a popular choice amongst our family or on TB (did a search on the baby name board). I don't particularly care what others think about it though bc It took TWO years for DH & I to agree somewhat on a name...as of now this LO will be Bronx David
I thought this was a new thread and don't realize I already answered- haha! So this is what we've narrowed down.
Girl name: Eloise Catherine or Eloise Jean (family mn)
Boy name: Kellen James or Kellen Robert (family middle name) Samuel James or Samuel Robert
I got them from knowing an Eloise (student:player of mine) and Kellen is a friends son's name and she thinks it would be awesome if I used it. He's 9 already. I've always liked Sam.
So DH and I are casually tossing around names. We got the BabyName app where it's like tinder. We each go through names, swipe left if no, swipe right if yes. Then it tells us if we get matches. It's kinda fun! So far we have 3 matches and they are only for girls even though we have the sex as "Surprise" so it gives both boy and girl names. Some of the names that pop up are pretty out there though.
So far we matched with Rosalie, Elaina, and Lydia. I knew we both liked Lydia (Tw: from our previous loss). But he really surprised me with the other two. I'm pretty hesitant to name a girl any E name now though. So many Eleanors, Ellies, and Evies within my group of friends and school.
I would really love to have a daughter with an L name, like me.
For boys we are completely at a loss. We both loved Isaac before but it seems weird to use it now.
