@bcashaw the first time I was 18-19 weeks when I felt something and it felt like someone had set loose a flopping fish in my lower belly. I felt this one early, and it felt like popcorn popping.

Dont stress!! I've been feeling this one off and on for awhile and there are still days when I feel nothing for the whole day. It's totally normal to not have symptoms at this point and to feel "normal" again, and even my MW had a hard time finding his heartbeat the other day at 16 weeks.
  • Loading the player...
  • @bcashaw for me it either feels like a pencil eraser gently tapping from the inside or flutters. Both my babies have been front and center so I feel them crazy early but wasn't sure it was really baby till about 16 weeks with ds after a few weeks of the weird flutters. 20 weeks is the norm though. If you are lightly cramping take it as a good symptom that your body is continuing to stretch and grow to accommodate a growing baby. Also I feel baby most at the beginning when lying on my back with my hand over baby, or in the car with the seatbelt, and definitely is Not consistent till 20+ weeks.
  • @bcashaw I know the feeling! I was sure I felt my first at 16 weeks, though I had been wondering if that's what I was feeling for a few weeks before that. With this one I'm 15+3 and haven't felt a thing yet. The midwives found the heartbeat very easily at my appointment on Thursday and that helped ease my mind. So I'm just hoping that means this baby is a lot more chill than my first ;)

I confused the feeling with gas a lot with my first, and sometimes it would feel like a little goldfish swimming in my gut.

I know it's hard to tell yourself everything is okay, even when you know it probably is, so I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

@bcashaw Baby is probably flipped butt up and that's why the HB is harder to find.
    Here is a discussion. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12576267/when-will-you-feel-baby-move#latest
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

You guys are the best. I feel like such a spaz. I need to stop reading this app because it told me I'd be feeling them now.

@bcashaw I'm 15 weeks and this is my third. I haven't felt baby even once. I'm patiently waiting!

    ETA: I felt DD1 around 18w and DD2 around 15w.

Okay that's good. I feel better.

Also does anyone of you STM have the city mini jogger GT? Is there somewhere else that I should be asking about strollers ?
  • @bcashaw we are looking at that stroller as well! I wanted something  all-terrain but lightweight. It seemed to fit the bill. I'll be interested to see what others say.

That's what we are getting. I had the regular city mini with my son but the adjustable handle of the GT is a must with my FI who is pretty tall.

just note, it's not a jogger really. I love it and it maneuvers well but it doesn't have jogger shocks and if you are serious about jogging you won't be happy. Great for *walking* even on unpacked trails but not running or jogging.

  • @pawcall we don't do a lot of jogging/running outside but we have some unpaved hiking trails we love. Will this stroller be good for that? I love how lightweight it is

  • @bcashaw I have very few symptoms now too, really just sore breasts. I'm anxious for my next appointment to hear the heartbeat and know it's all fine so I get how you're feeling!

@pawcall I don't think I've jogged a day in my life and I am pretty city. I think it's a good size for taking on public transit and it seems maneuverable (Spelling?) I love the fact that it has 3 wheels I am curious about the weight. I think I may have to go test drive it.
  • @bcashaw I first felt DS about 17-18 weeks.  For me, it felt like flutters.  Like a butterfly was in there.

Regarding strollers, I had the regular City Mini with him and loved it.  I used a Bob for running, which I highly recommend to anyone who runs a lot.

The regular city mini is really light and folds tiny. The gt still folds tiny but is a bit heavier. Still not an issue to one handed fold while holding a baby, so, win!

  • @bcashaw I tested it out this weekend and it was fairly light, paticularly in comparison to some of the other strollers at the store

@jess0211 awesome! I don't want to spend an obscene amount of money on a stroller. Also is it compatible with other brands of bucket seats or do you have to buy their car seat?

@bcashaw I used a Britax car seat with my City Mini.  I did have to buy a car seat adapter bar to use it, but that was only like $20.

  • @bcashaw it is compatiable with graco snugride with an adapter. Not sure about other carseats. Also the gray one is about  $75 cheaper on amazon

Ok sorry if this has been asked before but STM's what did the first movement you felt feel like, I know people say flutters but I am 14+ weeks and keep feeling a almost poking sensation in my uterus, like someone's finger tip is gently pushing from inside, did anyone else experience something like this early on?
  • @KLink15 that's exactly what it felt like for me!! And most of the time I was putting pressure against my belly with either my hand or the seat belt. Pretty soon you'll feel a second poke and you'll know for sure that was baby!
  • How fast does what you eat or drink get to the baby? LO seems to react super fast to sugary food. I swear I felt her earlier while I was sipping lemonade and tonight snacking on peaches.

  • Awe I'm in that kind of limbo too where it's still hard to believe dispute having heard heartbeat and had 2 scan and everything is all fine . I don't feel pregnant and I don't feel like mum material and I'll have to wait since my midwife said not to expect to feel a thing till 20-23weeks first pregnancy and anterior placenta so I'll just have to wait I think
The only thing that seems real is all the Flippin blood tests

Also I feel like I'm a crazy obsessed person whenever I try talking about stuff like cot and nappies and what to get now or when to shop . Like I'm ahead of myself or something but I don't want to leave it as we are buying a house (moving 2 hours away from family)and it's going to be hard to get it all done and ready as it is I don't want to run out of time .

I used a Graco infant seat last time and bought a britax for this time.  Adapters are $15-20 on amazon

  • @bcashaw Now is such a hard time of pregnancy when most symptoms are gone and you're not totally showing yet, but still can't feel the baby. I didn't feel the baby until 21-22 week a last pregnancy. This pregnancy, I have felt the baby already. I think I just know what the beginning feels like so it's easier to spot now than it was when o was a ftm. So, you probably are feeling baby but just don't realize it yet. One thing that has helped me... as long as you're not bleeding you can be pretty sure that baby is still ok.

About the stroller - my friend has a city mini and loves it. It's a great stroller. You can google online what car seats it's compatible with.

However, if you're thinking of having more than one kid, you may think about getting a city select. Otherwise, you'll lose money trying to sell the city mini when you have your second baby and getting a double stroller. I go Have the city select and it is heavier than the city mini, but when I have baby #2 I just buy an extra seat and pop it on the front of my stroller. I can even have many diff combinations like Seat and bassinet, two seats, seat and car seat, and then all facing each other o facing away. And if one kid isn't with us, we can click that extra seat our easily.

  • @klink15 I have been feeling flutters off and on the past few days but not strong enough to say for sure it's the baby moving, I also had some poking or tapping feeling last night. One of the nurses I work with who is a midwife and does research with pregnant women said that it sounds like movement. She also said if I lay on my tummy I will feel it stronger. I'm too afraid to think it's movement when it's not!

@TeacherMama7 thanks for the advice. I do LOVE the city select (i used to be a nanny so I've test driven most double strollers) but we are not planning on more kids. I am kind of waiting to find out if we will still have our foster child then, but even if we do have her it will only be for 3 months after baby is born because of the 1 year rule that they have for kinship fostering here. . . So I think I'd opt to carry baby, stroller toddler and go with the city mini.
I also love the uppababy can't remember which model, but I cannot justify spending that much on a stroller.

Question for STMs:  At how many weeks gestation did you have your anatomy scan? I feel like in the past my doc hasn't wanted to do it before 20 weeks, but I see 18-22 online.

My husband is out of town for 2 weeks around that time, so it will either have to be done at 18w6d or wait until 21w3d.  Obviously I'll ask at my next appointment, but the thought of waiting an extra week or more makes me so sad!!  ETA:  I'll do whatever is best to see all of baby's systems functioning.  I recognize that is the primary goal of the AS;)  Just impatient to know when we'll be able to do it so I'm fishing from you guys!

  • @MississippiCatfish DD1 was at 22 weeks, DD2 was at 20 weeks (that tech sucked!!! Wouldn't even look to see the sex), and this one is at 19 weeks! I've also heard 18-22w is typical.
  • @baby3forme Wouldn't even try??? That's so strange.  I thought that was just standard!

  • @MississippiCatfish Nope, she seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. She kept forgetting to look at certain organs. In total, I had like 3 external ultrasounds and an internal because she forgot to do so much. At the end, I was like what's the sex??? And she just shrugged and said we were done. I was pissed! We had already done a third party 3D so we were pretty sure it was a girl but wanted the reassurance since the 3D was done so early on.
  • av2323av2323 member
@MississippiCatfish  My OB won't do the AS before 22 weeks.  She says the purpose is to check all the major systems in the baby and if done too early you don't get an accurate picture.  It was hard to wait with DS because we wanted to know the sex so badly.  On the flip side, my friend was pregnant at the same time, got her AS at 17 weeks and her doc couldn't get a good look at the heart.  So my friend fretted for 4 weeks and came back at 21 to have another look.  So I guess I am happy to wait.

It's not as hard to wait this time because we had the genetic testing done so we already know the sex of the baby.
  • @MississippiCatfish obv not a STM but my anatomy scan is scheduled for when I'll be 18w2d. They told me they wanted it done between 18-20 and gave me the earliest appointment that worked for me past 18w.

  • @MississippiCatfish Mine is scheduled for 20 weeks. I was told to schedule it any time between 18 and 22 weeks. Just know that if you do it on the early side, you may end up needing to go back to check some systems that aren't developed enough. There's not a big chance, but it's possible. Still - not the worst thing in a world to get an extra peek at baby.

  • @MississippiCatfish not a STM but we are scheduled for 20 +2

  • I was 21 weeks with DS. They haven't scheduled yet for this time. Guess I'll probably be scheduling that at my next appointment, crazy!

  • JDW0325JDW0325 member
My OB won't do earlier than 19 weeks. She acknowledged some do at 18, but stated that was too early in her (and all the doctors at the practice) opinion and can cause unnecessary concern if they can't see something b/c you are just too early.
With my son I was a couple days over 19, with this little girl I will be the same.
  • BayCampBayCamp member
I'll be 21+5 at ours. They schedule them all the same day since it's a small practice and they have a tech come in once a month to do all the anatomy scans on the same day.
