Names for LO?

Re: Names for LO?

  • @eazybreezy225 I think the name Jane is lovely!
  • Loading the player...
  • We could pick and agree on a million boys names but we struggle to agree on girls names.
Thus far our top names for baby boy are
Silas, Louis (French pronunciation), Cassidy, and Gibson. Our middle name will be Eugene after my late grandfather.
the only girl name we have agreed on so far is Penelope but I love 3 and 4 syllable names like Evangeline, Wilhelmina, Cordelia, Victoria. Etc
I think they balance out our pick for middle name which is Janet after my mother who passed away 4 years ago.
Siblings names are Eric Davidson (Eric was named for the character in the Crow and Davidson was a family friend) and Lenora Kay (Lenora Kay was DH's mother's name she passed away when he was 3) we call Lenora Loony or Nora. I looooove her name to pieces.

@brittabatwhite I love 4 syllable names and I love old names. Adalaya is my favorite but DH shot that one down quick.  :(

  • What names are you considering?
Mia (hoped for) and Benedict (blessing)

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
I looked up 'rainbow baby names'.  After 2 losses, it was important to me to express what a miracle this baby is.

What names is your SO thinking about?
We liked Olive an Paul for our first kid (Ended up naming her Elaina.  lol) so he'd be okay with still either of those names and I may circle back around to them but I like to try new ones out too.

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?  I love Conner (it's a last name on my mom's side of the family) but DH straight up hates it.  boo.

  • @brittabatwhite We totally have the same taste! DD's name is Evangeline Phillippa and if LO is a girl, she'll be Wilhelmina Diana! I'd also love to utilize Josephine as a MN if we somehow end up with three girls.

  • brittabatwhite I LOVE Louis (Louie). Someone told me once that DS looked like a Louie and ever since I've just loved it. Also I am a huge STL Blues fan. DH hates it though :( We're the same with girl names. Boy name is good to go, now if we could just agree on a girl name...

The baby names board came through with a great nickname for Valerie: Allie. I'm much more excited about this baby's potential name now that I have something I can call her that doesn't sound so old to me. (Reminder: Valerie is after my mom. Lovely name, but my mom's name. Just needed something fresh in case it's a girl.  :))

@brittabatwhite What about Philippa, nn Pippa?  That's pretty high on our list.  I also like Louis, nn Louie, after my grandpa (who's still going strong at 98! He's amazing!).  He's Louis but has gone by Louie his entire life.  I always thought I would use Louis as a middle name but Louie is really growing on me!

  • @brittabatwhite I love your names! If this LO is a boy the middle name will also be Eugene after my grandfather who passed away last summer.

We have no idea what we will name this baby and probably won't discuss it until we find out the sex.

I'm obsessing over E names for a girl.  Eloise-  Eleanor - Edith! I can't pick my fav.

i love Samuel / Sam for a boy right now!

we have a Patrick and Claire already.

  • Cole for a boy, it's my madien name and I'm the last born out of all girl cousins so I wanted to carry my name on somehow. Riley if it's a girl. My mom named me after her childhood dog..she liked the name Jennifer and I suppose it didn't hurt it was the most popular name in 1987. So when trying to think of a girl name I thought how fun would it be if I did the same and named my daughter after my beloved childhood dog.. Riley.. okay now it sounds a little crazy after typing that out haha! I've also considered Collete if a girl.. for same reason as my boy name but my DH isn't having it.
  • Right now we are just throwing stuff around... My oldest is Isla James.  When I was pregnant with her, we tossed around Anderson for a boy.  Right now that's probably still our boy front runner.

If it's a girl, I really like Tyler Elizabeth but I can tell DH is eh about it.  Initially Isla was supposed to be Evelynn, so there has been a mention of Evelynn Tyler (nn Evie) but who knows.  I really love Sloane but a friend has that as a last name so it's weird and we can't use it.

We are the type that will be up in the air and then randomly say it and be like "yeap, that's it" and it's a done deal.

  • @kersey0208 I love the name Cole!

We are having twins and are pretty settled on one boy name and one girl name, but we are still figuring out second names if we have two girls or two boys. I'm iffy about the second girl's name my husband likes. It's Alexandra, which I do think is very pretty, but it's not my favorite. I'm  also concerned that my Aunt and Uncle could give me a hard time because my cousin's name is Alexander and in Judaism you're not supposed to name after living relatives. We really wouldn't be naming the baby after him though and we'd go by the nickname Lexi, so I hope it won't be too big a deal if we do have two girls and decide to go with it.

My all time favorite boy's name is Gabriel, but my husband despises that name, so sadly it's off the table.
  • Haha @tamaraaaa my husband and I are exactly the same way. When you know, you know lol
  • What names are you considering?
No considerations yet. But one starting with I and the other with L.

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
    My families names:
    Hayden - DS
    I - baby
    Joel - DH
    Kathryn - me
    L - baby
    Molly - DD
It's alphabetical (HIJKLM) and me and DH decided loooong ago to do keep it :)

What names is your SO thinking about?
We're really stuck until we find out the genders. Naming one kid is hard enough, but we habe to name 2!

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?
Ian- not happening bc this guy we both used to know

Open to suggestions for (b/g) names starting with I! It's a tricky one!
  • dkizz82dkizz82 member
    @KathrynJ088 we're
    C- DH Clay
    D- me Danielle
    E- DD Emmalyn

probably goong woth another E this time.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @KathrynJ088 Isabella/Isabelle (I like it, but I think it is still pretty popular, so if you want something really unique, might not work), Isla, Isolde. Ione, Igor (not my fave), Irwin. Too bad you don't like Ian--I love that one!

if we have a boy, we'll be naming him after DH, since DH is the 4th of his name and baby would be #5. Personally, I don't really like doing that, but as long as the baby is called something else (goes by middle name or a nickname), I'm ok with it. Neither DH nor his dad goes by a nickname, so it is already confusing enough with them both using the same name. We're considering Quint as a nickname, since baby will be the 5th.

For a girl, I am considering Rosalie again (almost used for DD, but DH doesn't like it as much as I do), possibly Willa (maybe as a middle name? William was my dad's middle name and he passed away just a couple weeks before we got pregnant). I also like Finley but DH does not. With DD we also considered Serafina (nickname Fi), but I think it may be too much of a mouthful with our last name. My dad's first name was Kevin, and the feminine form is Keavy/Keava, but that is a little unusual for us, I think. DD's name is Caia (meaning: to rejoice), which is already hard enough for people to pronounce and spell. DH also wants to use his grandmother's name as a middle name, but it was Delores, which I do not like (and I think it means sorrowful. How terrible is that?). Both his grandmother and his mom went/go by Dee, though, so I might be able to talk him into a different D name (his mom is Deidre, which I like) instead of Delores. So give me your D girl name suggestions! We won't make a final pick if it is a girl until she is born--I have to see her to know for sure it is her name!

  • @cait5413 I'm not a fan of Isabelle/a, have been thinking about Iliza or other names traditionally spelled with an E that we could change to I.

For D- I've always liked Delilah, or maybe just since that song came out "Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York city? I'm a thousand miles away but tonight you look so pretty..." I think its by Plain White T's?
  • @kathrynj088 For a boy Issac maybe? Or Isaiah? Not a lot of I boy options of which I'm a fan. For a girl: Ivy, Iris, Imogen, Isla, Iliana

@cait5413 What about just Dee for a middle name? It would be a great tribute to both women since it's something they both went by.

There are so many great names here! You gals are so creative!

My DH and I have a lot of trouble picking girl names, but we have had a boy name picked out for years. (Which means we'll probably always have girls, lol) A boy would be Jason after DH's brother who passed away 10 years ago.

We don't have any front-runners for girl names yet, and my DH won't be home until right before the birth, so we're having to get creative about finding a name before baby gets here. I sent him with a list of 1000 girl names that he'll spend the next 5 months narrowing down to a top 10 while I do the same. We'll compare lists when he gets home and hopefully have a good one we both like.

  • @flowerpower5838 Dee could work, but it depends on the first name we pick. Rosalie Dee is too rhymey, I think. I'm not sure I like Willa Dee either. But we could find something else that would work with it.

    @leilagphillips I hadn't thought about Dahlia. Maybe!

@kathrynj088 I liked that song a lot when it came out :) but Delilah always makes me think of Samson and Delilah from the bible.

  • What names are you considering?
Girl: Paisley/Paislee (Jean or Nicole for middle name)
    Boy: Hunter Allen

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
Girl: There was a little girl at Chick Fil A and her mom called her to come out and ever since I fell in love with that name (This was even before I was Preggers)
Boy: DH has always loved that name.  He wanted our second son to be named Hunter, but it just didn't fit with his "look" so we went with Landon Drew :)

What names is your SO thinking about?
    See above

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?
    Not at this time.
  • So far the list of what NOT to name our kiddo is longer than actual potential names. The joys of being a teacher and working in childcare prior. It does have its benefits though (like knowing which names are overdone)

(And maybe include if you work in urban/suburban/rural communities, and what part of the country - Midwest, PNW, New England, etc?)

We've had our 3 girl's names set from when we met and everyone has something negative to say but I don't care!
    Summer, Meadow, Honey

If we have a girl it will be Summer Poppy *TW* because we lost our first pregnancy when the baby was only the size of a poppyseed so we want to remember. I love Flower as a middle name with Meadow (Meadow Flower) but hubby has drawn the line at the 'out there' nature of this one... I may be able to coax him round though ;-)

Boys are a bit harder... we love Jesse, Hunter and Isaac. Hubby loves Hunter, I like it, I love Jesse, hubby likes it. So with the boy we decided to see what he looks like if it is a boy.

Struggling with middle names for a boy too... I originally wanted musical theatre middle names as a cool theme (I'm a Drama teacher) but hubby doesn't like any of the boys ones I picked (Javert, Fiyero, Collins, Angel, Flynn) so no idea where to go with this... Grandfather's name is Martin which neither of us likes and my fathers name is a definite no no. Grandparents were John and Wilfred, don't like those either... so we continue to search. It's such a responsibility lol!

There are a heap of names I love but can't have because I'm a teacher and there are so many difficult children with those names that would bring my memories back to some awful classroom times lol!
  • @whiska in my group this year there are four Samuels, three Logans, two Madisons and two Addisons. I live in Michigan. I also teach ten year olds, so I'm not sure if these names that were really popular ten years ago are still the really common names for new babies.

Little back story. I had a very common name growing up, Brittany, and even had to go by my first name first initial of my last name or first name first and second initial of my last name because there were so many of us in my grade. I have a severe aversion to common/popular names. However my husband hates "out there" names as he calls it. We've been arguing on names since we were dating. Right now we seem to have top contender of Marigold with nn Goldie. It's not currently in the top 1000 names per the Social Security registry. My friends hate it but.....

I read an interesting article on name popularity a while back. Before the 2000's, top names like Amanda, Jennifer, etc could each account for 20% of all baby names in a year. Now a top name, like Emma, only accounts for 1% of baby names. There are significantly fewer babies born with present top names because there are tons more names used than in previous generations. It made me feel better about naming DD Amelia:)

And as a teacher, it's very hard when your child has an odd spelled name. It will never be pronounced correctly on the first day of school or at doctor's offices. Your child may be shy and never correct the person. That's just my teacher opinion but of course, do what you want.

Secondly we have multiple Names of children. Mackenzie is big now. So is Logan, Aiden, Eli, Hailey, Connor. I teach just outside of Nashville. K-5

  • We'll be in trouble when it's a boy. We have some contenders (Walt, Simon), but I'm not wild about them. I prefer longer names, my SO shorter. His surname is 1 syllable and very common. Short names are very much on trend in the Netherlands right now and I don't want our child to have a super common first name and a super common surname.

We're more in sync when it comes to girl names. My current favourite is Mathilde. His Vivian. We also like Josephine.

@vvitchhazel I love your naming style! My grandma's name was Wilhelmina and she was the best <3 Love Willa!

  • We were team green for #1, found out with #2, and are team green again soooo we'll see if we actually get to use our girl name from round 1!
Boy name will likely be John (my husband adores his younger brother and while I think John is a very "plain" name, we have two boys already and I got my way with both their names and dodged John!)
maybe John Oliver or Spencer- middle names are grandfather's names.
For a girl we're thinking Pruett Jean or Josephine- call her Pru or PJ (Pruett is my maiden name) it's not a fancy pretty name, but it means something. My dad passed away when I was 15 and I always wanted my maiden name to live on in some way. Possibly, Aura Adelaide which are our grandmothers names. Naming kids is sooo hard!
  • @lestex You could also use Pruett with a boy--John Pruett could be JP. That way you could use it either way! Nice tribute to your dad. My cousin named her little boy Smith to honor her mom's maiden name (although Smith is very common, we have only 2 boys in the family with that surname; one is not planning to have kids ever and the other we didn't think would ever get married [though he is now engaged] so it seemed that there would be no actual last-name Smith kids to carry on the name, so I thought it was a nice touch).

  • @cait5413- we thought about that but my father in law remarried and my dh's stepbrother's name is JP. It can't be done. I am busy brainstorming nicknames/names so I don't have to call this child John if it happens to be a boy. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
  • DH and I decided on a girl name for sure, Josephine nn Jo or Joey. Middle name Noel. I've seen it mentioned a lot on here now as I read through! Will we all be starting a new trend  B) ?

For a boy we can't find one we both love. I like Kassian or Constantine. He likes Weiland, Wyatt and Waylon (I really dislike the last 2, too country for me). Only name we both sort of like is Archer.
Hope we have a girl lol
