Names for LO?

I know I can't be the only one already trying to pick out possible names for LO(s)! I know with my boys it took me and exH forever to decide on names. Figured we could have this thread to throw out our ideas and try to get some assistance if we are stuck, or even just share our names and why we picked them. :)

What names are you considering?
Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
What names is your SO thinking about?
Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?

This is one of my favorite parts when it comes to planning for baby!

Re: Names for LO?

  • What names are you considering?
Boy names: I am totally stuck... no ideas at all yet.
Girl names: We have picked the first name - Amara. I loooove it. But having a hard time choosing a middle name that flows! Last name will be Marton. Any ideas?

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
LOL it actually is the name of a character in Supernatural. No shame.

What names is your SO thinking about?
DF agrees with Amara, but is just as stuck as me on the rest.

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?
I wanted the girl middle name to be Heather after my mom, but unfortunately DF's exW has the same name and she is completely crazy, she would assume it was after her and would find a way so start drama over it.

Here are a couple of my faves if others need inspiration:

    Nicholas
    Sebastian
    Benjamin

    Cecily
    Rosalie
    Colette
    Laurel
    Natalie
  • @NME44 those names are great! Both my boys have grandfather's names for middle names. exH and I couldn't agree on family first names though so we ended up just doing a baby name search.
  • NME44NME44 member
@bethk1993, thank you. They are lovely names and I'm sure they will fit the baby just fine. It just takes some of the excitement out of the pregnancy for me. (We also aren't putting together a nursery for the first time since we've run out of rooms in the house. So I'll have to find something else to focus on this pregnancy that's special for the baby.)
  • NME44NME44 member
@bethk1993, I would just find a meaningful family name for the middle. I'm not opposed to father's names as middle names for girls, or even your name or middle name to pass on. (If mine is a girl she will have her father's name for a middle, for reasons stated above.) that's being said, Amara is a longish sounding first name so I would keep it short and sweet for middle name (if you don't use family):

    Amara Leigh
    Amara Mae
    Amara Rose

    girl- Lindsey Jordan

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
boy- named after my grandfather (Jerome) and his grandfather (Erle)

I LOVE Leah (lee-uh), and Alani but DH doesn't care for them.

  • @ktcakes87 I love the nn Bash! And my DD is Quinn
  • No idea yet if it's a boy. DS is named Lucas Gabriel.

If it's a girl she will be Lucia Isabel or Isabel Lucia <--- we can't decide which.
  • We aren't good at girl names but we are loving Skylar, Evelyn, and Elenor. I like Lenny for a nn for the last. For a boy we have Benjamin Albert already decided.
  • Our boy name is Liam Parker or Liam Maddox
Our girl name is Ava Blair

our last name name starts with a C and our DS is ABC so if we have a girl we'd like to continue that. But for boys we aren't fond of any other A first names.
  • Also adding names I love but won't be using because DH hates them or we like what we've picked better  haha.
Harper, Harlow, Reagan (with our last name it sounds like a presidential candidate), Aviva, Hannah, Brynn, Maverick, and Paxton.

I'm interested to hear anyone's theory on selection compromising! My husband thinks he should pick if it's a boy and that I should pick if it's a girl.

I've had a girl name I've been set on for years and years and years (jade). Dh says he doesn't really like it but he'd go with it bc he knows it's important to me.
He suddenly had a dream a couple months ago about the name Abraham for a boy and said it was gods way of speaking to him so that it's absolutely non negotiable. I 100 percent no doubt hate that name.

Not going to really talk/decide about names this early but baffled at how to meet in the middle.

    @ktcakes87 I love Quinn!

DD is Emmalyn Adell. She's named after the show Army Wives. Don't care. Haha. Her middle name was my grandmothers.

We are pretty set on Elliott for either sex. Elliott Cole for boy (family names) but not sure of a middle name for girl.

Forgot to add: on the baby names board people often suggest printing out two copies of the top 1000 and each of you going through with a highlighter to highlight names you like. Then only discussing the names that overlap on both lists. Worth a shot, but I'd wait until you know the sex.
  • @ohmickey331 Harlowe and Raegan are both on my list! DH doesn't like Harlowe and **tw** we were pretty set on Raegan when I was pregnant before so I feel weird trying to use it now **tw**

  • The names we have in mind are:

Boy: Alexander Jeffery (after both grandfathers)

    Girl: Violet

any suggestions for a good middle name for Violet?
  • @acgonzalez22 I LOVE Lucia, but Lucas and Lucia would be a little much for me. Isabel is really pretty as well though!
  • DS is Zachary Stephen, and right now I'm thinking:

    Boy: Nathan James
    Girl: Eliza Marie

If it goes anything like last time, DH will have zero suggestions, keep putting off looking at or making a list, and just let me have my way!

  • What names are you considering?
    a girl is definitely "Mattingly"
a boy - ha, we have been discussing boy names for the past 2 years and came close to agreeing with "Jace"'but we just decided against that today so back to square one

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names?
Mattingly is because DH & I are big NY Yankee fans and love the name.

For a boy, I would like to stick to a name that starts with "J" but nothing is set in stone.

What names is your SO thinking about?
he loves Morrison for a boy.  Just no.

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?
I love Jagger and Jackson but DH knows someone with Jagger so he refuses to use it and my nephew is Jackson so there goes that.

  • DH and I both already decided on Amarin Angelo for a boy. No real inspiration behind it, just sprung in to DH head, the first name that came out and we loved it.
My 2 yr old son is Orion Angelo so want to keep middle name the same which follows tradition of my DH's middle name which is also Angelo.

Haven't decided on a girls name, I do like Athena. But still looking  :#
  • @NME44 sometimes I think he's insane with his dream/god methodology here

@Jellybelly119 I have the same issue with the names being so similar. My favorite Aunt that passed was Lucia. She was the epitome of grace and spirit. Isabel Lucia will most likely be the name if its a girl.

ETA @Marley629 My Dad has an entire room dedicated to the yankees with so much Don Mattingly stuff! Adorable for a girl!!
  • Ds is Grayson Ezra and dd is Amelia Abigail. We have a tendency to wait until the end or after, dd wasn't named until she was 2 days old. Anywho...

    For a girl were considering:
    Phoebe
    Delilah
    Matilda

    For a boy:
    Sebastian
    Wyatt
    Spencer
    Oliver

These are great! This has been a little issue for DH and I too.

    What names are you considering?
    Boy:
    Crosby
    Ziggy

    Girl:
    Zara
    Lennon (nn Lenny or Lenni)
    Siena
    Isadora (nn Izzy)
    Ruby

Where are you getting the inspiration for those names? We both like strong souding names that aren't too "out there". So Ziggy is kind of pushing it. We don't have many good ideas for a boy yet.

What names is your SO thinking about? He only knows what he DOESN'T like

Any names you love but won't/cant use for some reason?
I loved the name Simone Noel (Noel because I've always loved Christmas and it's a Dec baby!!) for a girl and DH hates it. I've honestly loved the name Simone for a long time so I'm a little sad. However we can think of and agree on more girl names that we like than boys so who knows...

@cait5413, it was a strong contender for our DD as well. Ultimately we didn't use it, but I love DD's name.

ETA: it's similar in style, but a bit more feisty, a little less sweet. Fits my girl.
  • @Marley629 ohh Jagger is cool!! DH and I like music/musician inspired names too (Lennon, Crosby, Ziggy..) and we have also tossed around the name Bowie. This is tough!

  • We've pretty much agreed on some names for now. We'll see if they last the whole 9 months, lol.

DS is Nathaniel Roy. Last name is one syllable and begins with B.
A boy would likely be Simon Marcus and a girl would likely be Sophie Laurelle. All of these middle names are family names.
For a boy we were also considering Theodore but then we realized we had picked two out of the three chipmunks (only missing Alvin!) and couldn't stop laughing about it.
For a girl I really like Naomi but DH isn't feeling it. He likes Mia but I feel like there are already 1,000 Mias in this age range.

Names I like but will never use for various reasons: Andrew, Mariah, Margaret

We have a couple names we love for both boy or girl but have settled with Marian  (will go by Mary) for a girl. DH's mom, grandma and & great grandma are all named Mary. And his other grand mother's name was Marion and DH was very close to her.
  • @acgonzalez22 I think having a Lucas and a Lucia would be adorable! I think the spelling looks very similar but phonetically they sound different enough.
  • I love this thread! We have been thinking about names since the first week! We are having a hard time though, especially with boy names! For a girl we are pretty sure we have decided on Kylie. For a boy, we are pretty stuck but the only one sticking out for now is Mason. I keep telling DH I am staying open minded though since we still have time.

On another note, my husband is Italian and I keep wanting to find a non-corny, won't get made fun of in school, Italian boy's name!

  • @Mandayno Coming from a big Italian family, here are what most are named in mine:
    Anthony
    Dominic
    Guido
    Guy
    Antonio
    Matteo
    Victor

I think Anthony, Dominic, Victor and Matteo are the least likely to be made fun of. It really doesn't matter a child's name, kids will come up with something to mock fun. Unfortunately, it's what kids do sometimes.
