It's 2 am here. Preparing for our 2:30 feeding. What are other people's feeding schedules like? We're doing 2:30 am, 5:30 am, 8:30 am, 11:30 am, 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm, 8:30 pm, 11:30 pm, on and on and on... It feels never ending. Jay is gaining like a champ, though, so I can't complain too much. I think the worst part is that I pump every single time, and that gets really old.
DH was awesome today. I had told him a couple days ago that it felt like I was doing everything, and he's really stepped it up. He took over half of the feedings today so that I could pump quickly and get some rest, he did the laundry the past 2 days, and we did bath time together instead of just me doing it on my own.
Anyways, how are other people doing tonight?
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
Midnight here. We feed on demand and wake every 3 hrs at least to make sure he's eating. He seems to eat every 2 hrs overnight and spaces his day feedings out more. My milk came in today and ouch. Typically, DH is responsible for all non-nursing related tasks. So if baby wakes fussy, DH will check diaper, try to settle, and give to me to nurse if needed.
I'm up here - it's almost 230. We don't have a schedule yet, still feeding on demand. The last two nights were glorious. She had a four hour stretch, then a couple of three hours. Tonight, not so much. She seems to be struggling to stay awake to get a full feed, so she's been up every couple of hours. I know I could turn on some lights and work on really waking her, but then after doing that I end up struggling to fall asleep. So either way, sleepy!
We'ee doing newborn pix in the morning. Thank god I'm only in a couple and then I can resume my role as Elsie the tired cow, and just sit on the couch.
I'm up! But alas, no baby or MOTN feedings here unless you count the Tums I just ate! Luckily I'm off work tomorrow so I can sleep in. Good luck and more power to you ladies with kiddos to feed MOTN. I'm both excited and apprehensive about that stage. On one hand at least I'll have something to DO in the middle of the night instead of stare at the ceiling. On the other.... I'll have something to do in the middle of the night.
I'm up. Can't sleep. I'm so not looking forward to middle of the night feeds. I've been adding a million shows to my Netflix list in preparation for it. I'm just so tired. I remember with DD as soon as the doctor said we could stop waking her up for MOTN and let her wake up on her own she decided she wanted to eat every two hours! Ha before that it was struggling to keep her awake for feeds. Silly baby.
I hope we can eventually go to feeding on demand, but for the foreseeable future, we have to stick to a schedule. The schedule is also good in some ways, though, because I never have to wonder if he's getting enough to eat. We measure it out in bottles. He also is waking up now for most of his scheduled feedings, whereas before we had to wake him.
2:45 here and up feeding. We aren't on a schedule but he wakes up around the same times. I'm not waking him up to eat even though I know they recommend to. On Sunday at his appt he was only done a couple ounces (1 or 2%) and my milk is fully in so I'm letting him sleep. I try not to let him go past like 5 hours but he wakes up before that 99% of the time
@kns1988 Ah sorry, after doing some laundry I was able to sleep some more. Mostly teenagish shows, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, Reign, Switched at Birth, New Girl, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-O, Revenge, Life in Pieces, Once Upon A Time, Law & Order, Criminal Minds....haha I have a lot in there.
Checking in even though it's not MOTN...my phone is currently being used for white noise at night and I leave it on during feeding to help her ease back into sleep. I need to bring an iPad up or something so that I can pop into these!
On feeding schedules--she's eating every 2-3 hours during the day. We nurse for 30 minutes and then I supplement with a bottle of 1-2 ounces. I was hoping to pull back on the supplementing, but it's ok. I figure she's still getting breastfeeding benefits as long as she will tolerate the combo feeding. Our nighttime routine is a little different. We feed her pumped milk and sometimes a formula topper and put her to bed at 11 and she wakes up between 3-3:30. DH gives her a formula bottle, I pump, DH changes her--the routine takes 20-30 mins. Then she sleeps until 6:30ish. I'm only pumping the one time. I know there is more that I could do to increase milk supply (power pumping, etc). But I just don't want to...I'm pretty happy with this current set up!
@ChristinaWild, aka Elsie (LOL): I also struggle to keep this little guy awake during feedings (motn and daytime). He's on the boob for 5 minutes and then is completely passed out. I do everything I can think of: stripped naked down to diaper, blowing a breeze, chatting, tickling, wet washcloth to the foot and cheeks (that always gets a response but then he's asleep like 30 seconds later!); I should do bright lights like you said. I'll try anything: looking for suggestions!
@kns1988: A schedule like that can be helpful though! Remind me how old Jay is. Did you fall into the schedule based on his own patterns or did you implement it on your own from the start? Just curious!
+1 on looking for tips to keep this baby awake while nursing! Toddler was bouncing around the living room with an ice pack last night...in a desperate move I used it on her little feet in an attempt to wake her and it worked for like 1minute and she was back to snoozing...
The only other thing that's worked for us in keeping her awake to eat is changing her diaper midway through a feeding. Even that is a crapshoot, though, since she promptly fell right back asleep afterwards last night.

He's 16 days old. We were put on this schedule when we were in the hospital (we spent a week there after his birth) because he dropped 11% of his body weight. His body weight was only 4 lbs 13 oz and he went down to 4 lbs 4 oz. He's up over 5lbs now. We're doing exclusively pumping and bottle feeding so that we can monitor his intake, but hopefully we'll go back to the breast when he's bigger. It's working really, really well aside from me being quite exhausted and having to schedule my life around feedings, but I think the benefits are outweighing the inconveniences at the moment.

30 mins of nursing? I need all of your tips. This kid barely makes it 15 mins a feeding! I also seem to recall that DD was quick too. Maybe I'll move the diaper change to the middle of a feeding instead of before.
Not MOTN right now but I am not pleasant in the MOTN....we wake the girls every 2-2.5 hrs during the day now and the pediatrician says we can let them wake on their own in the night. This helps learn nights and days and it has worked wonders. I do wake to feed one if the other is ready, but they have been eating at 11:30p and then at 3:30a and then at 6:30a (that is our night feed). We have decided that these three feedings are formula supplement and no pumping. It has saved our sanity. I nurse and pump throughout the day and supplement if needed. We also change them before each feed. DH and my mom have been wonderful!
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot, I should have clarified--she "nurses" for 30 minutes, but I spend much of that time trying to keep her awake. We aim for 15 min on each side but sometimes we only get 5-10.
You just have to love that magical moment when baby eats a good pace, is changed and settled to a point where you just may make it back to sleep in less than an hour from when you woke up....and then they poop.
Woo hoo! I get to play tonight! never thought to get on here. I'm much more awake than I was last night. I'm surprised he even got to eat that's how bad I was struggling.
@kns1988 that snack sounds delicious! I'm a snack person anyway, but I'm out of easy things to grab while little man takes his bottle.
@ChristinaWild Oh no!! Motn poops are the worst; hope you were able to get back to sleep and rest.
It's 5 am... does this count as close enough to MOTN? Brenner just finished eating and now I'm pumping... story of my life these days I'm not looking forward to fiance going back to work next week. He's been so helpful, especially MOTN getting baby back to sleep while I pump.
@BeachMommy2B, I'd say 5 AM counts! Does your older daughter sleep through the night at least? I don't know how moms with more than one kid do this sometimes.
@SWoodd2012, I'm glad you got him to eat! Getting a tired baby to eat when you're also tired is super fun.
@ChristinaWild, the poops after they're dressed... DS went through 3 diapers while he was on the changing table earlier because he just kept pooping. It was pretty comical because DH was the one changing him. If it were me, I probably wouldn't have laughed so much.
I'm up for the 5 AM feeding, which usually means I'm up for the day. I feel best between 5 and 10 AM, then I just get more and more tired throughout the rest of the day.

2:30am here, wondering why the bump keeps freezing on me every time I try to read the birth announcements...I swear it's like the 5th time it freezes close and starts back up. Ahhh... As to all the breastfeeding talk, DS always nursed quickly also the hospital nurses always told me to leave him naked otherwise he'd keep falling asleep and they wanted me to nurse him as much as possible so he'd pee(he had jaundice and wasn't having any wet diapers)
@mrsrep123 - good luck EPing! I know that can be tough, too, so I hope it works for you.
@BeachMommy2B - that's awesome that your fiancé has been so helpful. I'm kinda ready for H to go back to work. He's a great daddy, but he can make it feel like I've have an extra child!
Elliott decided to stretch all her feedings so far to 4 hour stretches. I think she's making up for last night lol. It's 430 here, so if she doesn't do it again, it's ok. Just means I'm up in time to see DS go to school!
Thanks @ kns1988 and @christinawild. I EPd with DS and was hoping it might be different this go around. But it's all good. I'll sacrifice some sanity in exchange of being able to give any amount of breast milk.
Random question: anyone using swaddle pods or any swaddle-zip up-type? Are you dressing your LO in anything underneath it?
@mrsrep123, we use a halo sleepsack swaddle - we were using fleece when it was chillier last week, and now we're using a cotton one. We layer him in a tshirt onesie and zip up footies under the swaddle. This is a cold baby, though. If he were sweating under those layers, we'd reassess.

@mrsrep123 We are doing a cotton footie sleeper or gown under a cotton zip up swaddle pod. Although we are in AZ, our bedrooms get a lot of AC and we have 2 fans moving air around.
Thanks @kns1988 and @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot. It's a bit colder here tonight so after the last feeding I put him in a cotton sleeper. FX he sleeps and feels better.
EP is not for the weak of heart, @kns1988 and @mrsrep123 - we're still nursing some but definitely pumping more. I actually sorta prefer it to exclusively nursing since I have more control over when and can hand baby to DW with a bottle of breastmilk and feel good about that. I think Isaac has a little nipple confusion since his suck is sometimes shallow to the nipple and he gets frustrated when he can't latch or get letdown right away like he does from bottle.
If there are a lot of us who are pumping a lot/EP, maybe we should start a thread for support?
I think a pumping/EP thread would be great, @chailife34. I feel like I'm constantly talking about it because it's such a big part of my day for the foreseeable future.

Hello 230! Love my husband to death but good golly it's like the second I get out if bed to nurse he suddenly takes up the whole bed and kicks up his snoring to the loudest setting! I'm so jealous of his cozy sleep.
I miss sleep so much! We got the okay not to wake the twins for feedings during the night, but turns out they like routine just as much as i do because they are waking just as frequently as we were waking them. I stayed up later than usual tonight and now im regretting it. Im so extremely tired. My mom has been helping with my older daughter but she seems worn out and idk how im going to have all three alone...its totally freaking me out. I wish i could go to a hotel and sleep for one night.
I wasn't supposed to show up here tonight (4:10a) as DH is off work tomorrow (today). he said he'd help tonight. I was thinking and thought I said he'd get tonight and then Saturday night I'd go ahead and take the feedings again. He did great for the 1230 one, just wish he would a done both (he did get the bottle but he landed it to me since I was holding Henry). Thankfully Henry ate really well and is falling asleep quick, so attempt to go back to sleep for mommy. *DH really isn't as bad as he sounds despite my venting I'm very thankful for that first feeding and I was extremely tired all day and napped with all 3 kids home (that's scary! ) so when he got home he started making dinner and let me rest.
@sweaterboots those are really neat! @Jkp7749 I hope sleep come back soon for ya! sorry the girls are got used to the multiple nightly feedings. sending positive thoughts especially when/if you have all 3 kiddos @Squirtgun men! lol mine does the same even though I'm sitting in our bed to feed. hope you get some good sleep between feedings!
*4:45...guess Henry isn't going to sleep. little faker
I'm feeling whiny. I have terrible heartburn (hurts in my ears and back) so I can't sleep. I did just get medicine for it, so fx. my iv is still bugging me so they need to re do it (3rd time). I get checked shortly, but I'm afraid I still haven't made progress.
@Jkp7749 - FX they start stretching time between feedings soon! Schedules can be both great and awful!
its almost 5 here and I'm shocked because E did 2 stretches of 4 hours between feeds. The universe was cruel though, because DS woke up screaming bloody murder as we finished the last one. H brought him down into bed for snuggles that lasted another hour. I hope he sleeps in some and isn't a total monster tomorrow
