I'm sorry, @chailife34 :( Does he go back and forth?

Mine gets all of his food from bottles but I'll occasionally put him on my breast if I want to calm him down (pacifier style). Last night he just screamed when I did it and it definitely stung. DH calmed him down and we tried again, then it went better. I know the feeling, though.

  • Right there with you @chailife34 and @kns1988. Maybe a little milk in the bottle first, then try the breast? Or try when baby is sleepier? Hugs - screaming at the boob doesn't make mama feel good.

  • @chailife34 that was my son and I. It was very devastating to my mental state. I'm hoping things get better. We eventually exclusively pumped but that road stinks too
  • @chailife34 and that is when I would no longer be awake alone! There are many times I've heard a noise downstairs and had to wake H up...
  • kns1988kns1988 member
That's creepy, @chailife34! I'm sure it's nothing, but I hate hearing things at night.

It just took DS 40 minutes to finish his bottle and I still have to pump for 20 minutes. It usually only takes him about 15. 3 AM here.

  • Ugh, I was just pumping in our living room and heard a bump in the night three times. A random noise that can't be explained. Sounded like one of those automatic air freshener sprays "shh" or like a cardboard box getting dragged across the floor. The house has never sounded more quiet than when you're anticipating a random noise at night. Scary! Idk what it is!
Eek! I'm thankful the rocker/ loft is right outside our room. The light in there is on a dinner and I have it way low, but it gets slightly brighter then darker and it creeps me out.

  • @ChristinaWild no! But you better believe I'll be on high alert tonight!!

ETA: finally figured it out! It's coming from a new toy MIL got DD for her bday, a remote controlled car. It's wheels spin every so often, very weird.
Uuuuuh!! Why do toys do that? It's friggin creepy!!!

  • DS2 is 2 weeks 3 days old now. Are you still waking up your LOs by the third hour mark to feed them, even MOTN?

We haven't gotten to this point with DS2 yet, but with DS1 we woke him up every three hours until the pediatrician told us we could just feed on demand. I believe that happened at about our one-week visit. Do you have another visit coming up? If not I would call and ask, they may tell you it's fine now based on weight gain at the last visit or have you come in and get weighed if you don't have another visit until the one month.

@RainyDays86 thanks, I finally emailed our pediatrician and she said to keep feeding on demand or wake every 3 hours, even through the night. Maybe because he is still slightly jaundice from the chest up. Maybe when that clears, we'll get to let him sleep however long through the night.

  • Whoops, totally slept through my alarms.  :|
An hour and a half past feeding and 2 hours past pumping... I think I totally jinxed myself with that prior post?!

  • @mrsrep123 it happens! It's hard waking yourself up in the middle of the night to pump, especially since sleep is such a precious commodity. I try for a four hour stretch most nights, and I try to go to sleep when it's dark outside
  • @mrsrep123 totally slept through my pump sessions last night too! H did get up to feed Ollie so at least that happened!

Oh man, DS2 is wide awake after this feeding and I am so tired.

Eta We started this adventure an hour ago.

When feeding sessions last an hour in the MOTN, I just want to throw in the towel and stop pumping altogether. I tried to pace-bottle-feed while pumping yesterday to try to cut down on total time, but it was such a cluster f*#k. I couldn't give DS2 the proper support and my mind was everywhere instead of focused on him.

I'm hoping this feeling doesn't continue to spiral and I end up hating when it's time to feed/pump because I really want to enjoy ALL of this time as this is most likely our last.

Eta I already felt a little better just writing that out.

@mrsrep123, hang in there! Pumping can be so hard sometimes, but never quit on a bad day.

Why does my newborn sleep so amazingly peacefully in his boppy lounger or on us during the day, all by himself, but get fussy every 20-30 minutes in the bassinet overnight?

Anything else I can try him in? Maybe it's the flat surface he hates? We desperately need some sleep over here!
    Lilypie Maternity tickers
  • @MTB16 it most definitely could be the flat surface. And/or the cold openness of the bassinet. I can't remember how old your LO is - could it just be that night/day are mixed up?

sorry that I don't really have any help to offer. Maybe try napping in the bassinet during the day? Or tucking in a soft blanket in the bassinet?

    Good luck!
  • @MTB16 have you tried swaddling? It was the only thing that would get DS1 to sleep anywhere but our arms when he was little and even though DS2 seems a bit more chill than his older brother, it helps immensely with him too. Good luck!
  • @mtb16 I'm in the exact same situation. At night my baby grunts all night when I lay him flat. I've been trying all sorts of things. During the day I lay him flat for naps, ds1 is running around loudly and it's bright. Night is dark with a white noise machine and he is swaddled. Takes me forever to get him back to sleep.
  • Guys I feel just awful. Nora Mae had her days/ nights confused and was barely sleeping at night so the doctor suggested cluster feeding before bed. It has worked like a charm! I've only had to get up 2-3 times a night to feed her and usually have to wake her.
Well tonight my body didn't tell me to get up...and I slept for 5.5 hrs- it had been 6.5 hrs since she had eaten!! She's 8 days old. She wasn't fussy at all and only ate for 15 minutes (my boobs have a fierce letdown but that's another issue), and she went back to bed right after eating and a few diaper changes, plus she had regained her birth weight by 6 days so I think she's ok. But I just feel sooo bad!!! I think I'm going to need to set a timer for nighttime feeds? Anyone else had to do this??
  • @museic-2 don't feel bad! Sounds like baby is right on track and your body needed the sleep.
  • @museic-2, I set a timer. DS wakes himself up now, but he didn't for the first month. Don't feel bad!

  • @museic-2 we are still having to set a timer.  She does better going back to sleep after the feeds where she awakens herself but she was very small at birth and so per doctors recs we have to feed every 3h until they say ok to demand feed.  So for now we set the alarm 3 hours from when we started feeding last.  It's a fun time!
