  • @sweaterboots did we really? I was probably trying to turn over in bed and assumed it was me. ;) DH hasn't felt one yet.  He'll be bummed he didn't feel it either.
  • @rebecca517-2 a small 3.0 based in Santa Monica, just before 10:30pm. We felt it a little in NoHo. I was like oh hell naw, after all this work on the nursery! lol

  • Regarding taking baby out...I think I'm good with going out in public and telling people not to touch because would you want me to randomly come up to you and start touching you? But I have a work conference the week I come back from maternity leave. My boss told me to see if my mom would go with us so he can go. She's worried about him being in a hotel at 6 weeks (I informed her that if he does come on his due date that he'd be more like 9 weeks going on 10). That changed her thoughts a little bit but just curious what you all think. It's not like she has to stay in there the whole time or anything. We would need to figure out where he's sleep though, we don't have a pack n play, at least not at the moment.

  • @sweaterboots seriously! I would have felt the same way. Or if something fell on my car seat and I had to buy a new one? No freaking way. Haha I'm in Burbank, I should have felt it.

I wouldn't have a problem doing this, but I would buy a pack and play or some sort of portable bassinet baby could be in. I just bought the Chicco LullaGo and I really like it!
  • This is a PSA: do NOT go to Costco the week you are due. You will buy more things than you possibly need, more food than you can possibly eat, and more wine that you can possibly drink (immediately after giving birth, that is. Let's not get crazy).
    Lol! Great advice! ♡
  • @bacorrea thanks! We definitely need a pack n play regardless so that if my mom watches him at her place then she has somewhere for him to sleep. We just didn't get one for our shower and haven't had the extra money at the moment to get one. We'll definitely need to by mid July at the latest! We have a bassinet that has been passed down in my family, not very portable haha

Question: When do you feel comfortable taking a newborn around a lot of people? I might be being a bit of a germophobe. My SIL has a music recital at a church on Sunday and I'd feel terrible if we didn't go, but Jay will only be 2 weeks old. He's easy to travel with so far because he's much more sleepy than fussy. Would you go and just not let people hold him or would you skip it?
Honestly I felt the same after I had DS I didn't even go into the living rm so MIL could hold him, I was cautious/suspicious of EVERYTHING BUT if this recital is really something that means a lot I say you baby wear!  A close enough one that people won't need to touch the baby the baby would be right against your  chest(this is my solution if I ever need to go out anywhere when DD is born :)
  • @erinh2005 we watched the video last night. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming to see his reaction over his son.
  • @ChristinaWild oh man Costco was on my to-do list today. I'm already scared about how much I'll buy. Your PSA is appreciated.
  • @RainyDays86 That is the most beautiful laundry room! I'm sure the rest of your house is equally amazing. (A little jealous, I keep looking at those pictures of your laundry room.)

@chocolatelemons I know lots of people have weighed in, but I'm just hear to second (or twelfth) the sentiment that your priority is your baby, not your MIL's feelings, and that giving her the option makes her decision. I think babies get dtap at 2 months? But like someone else mentioned, this might be concerning for all the other vaccines. What about flu season? And I think it's different than @WombThereItIs situation where her mom can't get the vaccine, and your MIL is around children.
  • @kns1988 I would go if I felt up to it physically. I have no issue taking the baby out in public early, and plan on getting back to "normal" as quickly as possible.

@BabyMC517 we are traveling international for an month when LO is 7 weeks old. We plan on getting 2 month vaccines a tiny bit early and we are bringing a dock-a-tot as our sleep surface. I looked into lots of different small travel bassinets and there are lots of good ones out there. If we were staying domestic we would bring our pnp.

@RainyDays86 if I had a. Laundry room like that, I'd be tempted to wash and fold clothes more often.

I can't remember if we discussed the "prankster"  dad and stepmom on YouTube that verbally abused their kids. Well I just read that the kids were removed from the home and are with their mom.

@thistlenweeds I declined a membrane sweep this morning. I'm in no hurry to deliver.  Was it painful?
  • @clebl24 it was only painful for a couple of seconds, unpleasant more than anything, really.
  • @achays11 - a cold Pacifico sounds sooooooooo good right now!! Why didn't I buy beer, too?!?!

  • @MrsFreeman2010 I'll look into those as well. I figured since we'll need a pop at some point that it might be better in the long run, and get more use (?).

    Blah blah blah
Honestly, in your situation, I would find a new childcare option if she won't get the TDAP. If she isn't respecting your views on something that is this important to your child's health, what other parenting decisions of yours is she going to disrespect or ignore?
Oh that has been thoroughly discussed because I've seen it happen. Not huge things, very minor things, but still. One of those things where your parents know you'd say no but they do it anyways. Meh, still not a good example... We have zero intention of taking ourselves off the wait lists we've been put on and have an exit age where we go to a center for "preschool". Unfortunately, infant daycare is dang near impossible to find here right now.

@hp_momma I wish I could use that as an excuse, but in ND they can't have pharmacies in places like that. You have to actively go to a independent pharamist or the doctor.
  • @mcvgal Saw that. Was very relieved that at least two of the kids were removed. Especially the younger boy. Looks like he's been getting the brunt of the abuse. The whole thing just makes me sick.
  • Taking baby out: this is my third, so I will
need to take the baby out to keep my sanity. My oldest (4) has tee ball and both boys are in preschool, so I will at least be doing that.

I'm trying to figure out how to handle the beach/my parents pool. My boys live for the beach, as in we went almost daily last summer. They're already asking when we can go and I'm so sad that I will be limited to taking them on the weekends when DH is home.
  • @emilyalso I totally forgot about our Tuesday ticker change!! My days are all messed up. Hope @MrsFox2008 is doing good.
  • I don't think I saw @roper2617 on Fridays change...

  • @starphish18 Silly question, but how did you watch it? I have the DVD, but in this modern world I have no way of watching it! I am hoping there's a streaming version?
  • slowmoslowmo member
@emilyalso - Was wondering the same thing! Sending good thoughts to @MrsFox2008 wherever she is!
  • @starphish18 lol your cat swaddle comment made me remember earlier this am I was getting the infant car seat set up after cleaning it and asked DD to bring me one of her dolls so I could try to get the straps adjusted to the right spots... could be slightly different than an actual baby. So I can imagine your cat practice wasn't very fruitful lol.
  • @jayandaplus I bought it via Amazon video, so I was able to stream it.

@erinh2005 Haha, we resorted to using a doll to practice swaddling, too.
  • @thistlenweeds You've been walking around at 5cm and no labor yet?! Whoa! I hope baby comes soon!

@starphish18 - I was aware of swaddling before DS was born (is there anyone who doesn't register for Aden an Anais???) but had no actual knowledge of it. Even after watching the nurses several times in the hospital I was clueless. I finally had to ask one to undo him and SLOWLY show me how. There is no shame in the new mama game - everyone starts at square 1!
Even after watching the nurses and having them show us, DH and I never could get a tight enough swaddle! Those nurses are magicians!
