  • Oh man, the pubic bone pain I had postpartum was awful. I totally wasn't expecting it (and actually forgot about it kind of until right this second).

  • I wanted to add that I was all crunchy car seat momma at first, no added devices to the car seat, no mirror, nothing in the backseat with baby. *TW* But then my anxiety really kicked in and during our 1 hour commute to work and back each day I did nothing but think that DD was suffocating or choking and I was going to get to work and she would be dead...sorry adding TW!  So I caved and bought the mirror.  It was so worth the risk for my sanity.
  • So is it unrealistic for me to think that I'm putting my baby in the nursery from day one? The nursery is literally right next to our room, a 2 second walk. I really want to be able to put the baby in there and shut the door so my cats can't be annoying at night. We would set up a video monitor and have that playing on my ipad all night next to the bed so we could check on the baby without getting up. I also want my DH to be able to sleep good on the nights when he has to work.

I'll reply to everyone who answered my other questions once I can get on a computer. Going back on mobile is a bitch.
  • @dumbledoredies totally realistic! a couple of my friends did that. and i put them in there at 5-8 weeks which is essentially from day 1. but you will have to get out of your warm bed across the hall to feed for 10-60 minutes (depending on BFing or not) and then put them back down and walk back to your room and to it again in 2 hours. personally i waited until i was getting 4-6 hour stretches. but if you would just rather that totes possible! i HATED them in my room. i woke up to every peep.

I think this really depends on you.  I'm not saying it isn't do-able but there are a couple of things to consider.  How much work do you want to put in of taking those several extra steps to get into other room?  Are you going to be ok with them not being there in your presence?

I remember when we brought DD home from the hospital nights were the worst with my anxiety.  I think all the talk of SIDs had me paranoid.  I would lay there in bed and just watch her, unable to sleep.  I couldn't have had her in another room unless I had an Angel Monitor or something (which I plan to purchase this time around.)  And then, the first month or so they are up every 2 hours, if you are BFing then that will all be on you.  If you are FFing then you could split that up between you and your SO.  I just know how exhausting and draining it can get after a week of very little sleep.  I plan to use a basinet in our room for a month or so then switch to the nursery.

  • Breast Pumps & Accessories/Bags. I am looking at a Medela Pump in Style, Just curious do I have to use the Medela Bags or can I use Lansinoh Storage Bags? They are a little cheaper and I didn't know if they would attach to the pump or work with it.

  • @dumbledoredies it's not totally unrealistic, but it's really not convenient and will just make the first few weeks harder. It's so much easier to not have to get out of bed to feed them. We use a co-sleeper and it is wonderful just sitting up in bed, feeding baby, putting them back down and laying back down to sleep. Plus it helps with the anxiety that always comes with wanting to make sure baby is still breathing, etc. I can't imagine trying to wake up when I'm thoroughly exhausted, walk across the hall, pick up baby and carry them to a chair. But that's just me personally

Totally doable. DD was in our room for the first 3 months, BUT I took her to her nursery for EVERY feeding. She would not nurse laying in bed with me and it was uncomfortable for me to sit up in bed and nurse, so I took her to the nursery and nursed her in the glider for every feeding. Plus, I also changed her diaper after every feeding, and all our diaper stuff was in the nursery.

@natleilynn we've told DD that I'll go to the doctor and the baby will come out. A few close friends have had babies recently, so we've given her the same explanation. So far she's accepted that and hasn't questioned it further. Every time I have an appointment though, she asks, "baby coming out today?"

eta if she does ask, we plan to give her a simplified version of the truth.

I used both.  You just pumped into the containers and then dumped into whichever storage bags I had.

@nhoover88 I pumped into medela bottles and transferred Lansinoh  bags if it was going into the freezer

  • @dumbledoredies Totally OK to have separate rooms. You may change how you feel at the start because you may get up to check on LO. Have a plan B back up to include LO in your room if that happens.

I pumped into bottles then poured into bags. I would pour into each bag enough milk for one feeding so I wouldn't waste any milk. just make sure you label the bags with the date and how much is in each bag. Also, I wouldn't overfill the bag with much more than what the baby will eat, you can't refreeze the milk....and I think it has to be used within 24 hours, I can't remember for sure.
  • @curlyq423. Yes! Excellent tip.  I froze 4-6 oz bags because i made 4-6 oz bottles for daycare.  DS rarely ate more or less than that per feeding.  My questionable boozy milk I froze in 2 oz bags and would mix with fresh milk.

  • Okay STM, best safe cleaning supplies to use while preggers.. I generally hate cleaning but now all I want to do is clean and tidy up everything. I know there's a bunch of no nos chemical wise so what are your secret alternatives!?
  • @flyingfall my secret is that I make DH do all of the cleaning.

eta it works best if you convince him how harmful all those chemicals (even the products that are totally fine) are to the baby.
Hahaha genius. After years in the Navy my SO is rebelling against cleaning. I swear that's all he ever did. So for now, that's unfortunately not an option for me.
  • But @flyingfall it's for the baaaaaaby!  ;)

  • I basically snort bleach on the weekly.
That was me today. I pulled DD's water table out of the shed and bleached the crap out of it because it was disgusting. Whoops.

  • @flyingfall for general cleaning i fill up a spray bottle with a solution of vinegar, water and dishwashing liquid. It cleans so well.
I did just do that (well with apple cider vinegar) for our glass shower doors and it worked great.

  • Anyone have any suggestions on baby sleeping in our room when we have limited space? I don't want baby in the bed with us  because I'm just not comfortable with that.

Halo bassinet! Doesn't take up a ton of room and you can keep it close.
  • @folamij the problem I have with the Halo bassinet is it's kind of pricey for something baby is only going to use for a few months. But that can be my fall back plan.

  • @feeislove I thought the same and found a few on OfferUp that were reasonable, like $120. It's still pricy tho so idk

Arms Reach co-sleeper. They're pricey, but DD2 was tiny enough that she didn't reach the weight limit until she was 8 months. Plus it's insanely convenient
