@jessafishy ah okay. I've had twinges too coupled with pubic bone soreness? Idk how else to describe the general ache I have in the southern regions lol. Joy
Oh man, the pubic bone pain I had postpartum was awful. I totally wasn't expecting it (and actually forgot about it kind of until right this second).

I wanted to add that I was all crunchy car seat momma at first, no added devices to the car seat, no mirror, nothing in the backseat with baby. *TW* But then my anxiety really kicked in and during our 1 hour commute to work and back each day I did nothing but think that DD was suffocating or choking and I was going to get to work and she would be dead...sorry adding TW! So I caved and bought the mirror. It was so worth the risk for my sanity.
So is it unrealistic for me to think that I'm putting my baby in the nursery from day one? The nursery is literally right next to our room, a 2 second walk. I really want to be able to put the baby in there and shut the door so my cats can't be annoying at night. We would set up a video monitor and have that playing on my ipad all night next to the bed so we could check on the baby without getting up. I also want my DH to be able to sleep good on the nights when he has to work.
I'll reply to everyone who answered my other questions once I can get on a computer. Going back on mobile is a bitch.
@dumbledoredies totally realistic! a couple of my friends did that. and i put them in there at 5-8 weeks which is essentially from day 1. but you will have to get out of your warm bed across the hall to feed for 10-60 minutes (depending on BFing or not) and then put them back down and walk back to your room and to it again in 2 hours. personally i waited until i was getting 4-6 hour stretches. but if you would just rather that totes possible! i HATED them in my room. i woke up to every peep.

I think this really depends on you. I'm not saying it isn't do-able but there are a couple of things to consider. How much work do you want to put in of taking those several extra steps to get into other room? Are you going to be ok with them not being there in your presence?
I remember when we brought DD home from the hospital nights were the worst with my anxiety. I think all the talk of SIDs had me paranoid. I would lay there in bed and just watch her, unable to sleep. I couldn't have had her in another room unless I had an Angel Monitor or something (which I plan to purchase this time around.) And then, the first month or so they are up every 2 hours, if you are BFing then that will all be on you. If you are FFing then you could split that up between you and your SO. I just know how exhausting and draining it can get after a week of very little sleep. I plan to use a basinet in our room for a month or so then switch to the nursery.
Breast Pumps & Accessories/Bags. I am looking at a Medela Pump in Style, Just curious do I have to use the Medela Bags or can I use Lansinoh Storage Bags? They are a little cheaper and I didn't know if they would attach to the pump or work with it.
Started thinking about this when I was in the bathroom. When it starts becoming visible that there is something in my belly, DD is going to be super excited. How do you handle the inevitable "how are you going to get the baby out, Mommy?"
I poop it out? I go to the hospital and it comes out?
I need an easy explanation for a 3 year old here that won't result in a million "but why?"
BFP#1: 12/3/13 EDD 8/15/13. Heartbeat found on 12/26/13, HB gone on 1/4/13. D&C 1/7/13

@dumbledoredies it's not totally unrealistic, but it's really not convenient and will just make the first few weeks harder. It's so much easier to not have to get out of bed to feed them. We use a co-sleeper and it is wonderful just sitting up in bed, feeding baby, putting them back down and laying back down to sleep. Plus it helps with the anxiety that always comes with wanting to make sure baby is still breathing, etc. I can't imagine trying to wake up when I'm thoroughly exhausted, walk across the hall, pick up baby and carry them to a chair. But that's just me personally

If you are pumping into bottles first, you can use whatever storage bags you want. If you want to pump directly into the bags, I think you have to use the Medela ones. Someone else might know more than me since I never pumped into bags. I always pumped into bottles first and then poured into bags if I wasn't planning on giving the milk to the baby right away.

I am all about telling the truth and not over simplifying. Explain to DD that as part of her private parts (or whatever you have referred to her public region as when talking to her), she has a vagina. It is an opening into a woman's body that babies can come out of. Mommy has one too. At 3, she will understand a lot more than you think she will. Answer her follow-up questions.
That being said, the explanations in my family are about c-sections. So our kids, including our pre-schooler, know that a doctor will make a cut into my belly and take the baby out. The kids understand it and are fine with it.
*Siggy warning - loss mentioned* Preemie ID DDs; then DS; then natural M/C; now due 10/17 High risk for pre-term: weekly Makena injections
@natleilynn my 2.5 year old understands that I go to the hospital and the baby comes out of my tummy, and so far hasn't asked *how* the baby gets out of there. *fingers crossed*
She also thinks that you get babies in your tummy by going to the doctor, and told our nanny that next time the nanny goes to the doctor, she can get a baby too.

Totally doable. DD was in our room for the first 3 months, BUT I took her to her nursery for EVERY feeding. She would not nurse laying in bed with me and it was uncomfortable for me to sit up in bed and nurse, so I took her to the nursery and nursed her in the glider for every feeding. Plus, I also changed her diaper after every feeding, and all our diaper stuff was in the nursery.
@natleilynn we've told DD that I'll go to the doctor and the baby will come out. A few close friends have had babies recently, so we've given her the same explanation. So far she's accepted that and hasn't questioned it further. Every time I have an appointment though, she asks, "baby coming out today?"
eta if she does ask, we plan to give her a simplified version of the truth.

Yea i use whatever bags for pumping. personally i prefer medala over lansinoh. BUT when freezing LAY FLAT, then once it is frozen put in some type of storage like below. otherwise it is all at the bottom of the bag and a PITA for storing.
oh goll...my conversations with DD1 and how the baby got there and how the baby is coming out. she doesnt buy any of my answers. at first without me saying anything "how does the baby come out? you take scissors and cut your belly?" after getting over that gruesome image...i realized i am getting a csection so she isn't totally off base. so i said "i go to the doctor and she takes it out." "yea but HOW?!" i dont know, i know cutting it out is fine...but i'm also a little scared she would go try to cut out a baby out of her stomach...and it isnt the "normal way" kids are born and i am worried about what she would tell her friends etc. soOoOOooOooo like a good mother we have ended on "mommmy goes to the doctor and she takes it out...with a magic wand"

I used both. You just pumped into the containers and then dumped into whichever storage bags I had.
@dumbledoredies Totally OK to have separate rooms. You may change how you feel at the start because you may get up to check on LO. Have a plan B back up to include LO in your room if that happens.

I pumped into bottles then poured into bags. I would pour into each bag enough milk for one feeding so I wouldn't waste any milk. just make sure you label the bags with the date and how much is in each bag. Also, I wouldn't overfill the bag with much more than what the baby will eat, you can't refreeze the milk....and I think it has to be used within 24 hours, I can't remember for sure.
@curlyq423. Yes! Excellent tip. I froze 4-6 oz bags because i made 4-6 oz bottles for daycare. DS rarely ate more or less than that per feeding. My questionable boozy milk I froze in 2 oz bags and would mix with fresh milk.

Okay STM, best safe cleaning supplies to use while preggers.. I generally hate cleaning but now all I want to do is clean and tidy up everything. I know there's a bunch of no nos chemical wise so what are your secret alternatives!?
@flyingfall my secret is that I make DH do all of the cleaning.
eta it works best if you convince him how harmful all those chemicals (even the products that are totally fine) are to the baby.
Hahaha genius. After years in the Navy my SO is rebelling against cleaning. I swear that's all he ever did. So for now, that's unfortunately not an option for me.

I really like the seventh generation multipurpose/disinfectant. It cleans everything!
Thank you ladies! SO has so graciously agreed that anything I need to be cleaned with bleach he'll do, aka I'm gonna need everything to be cleaned with bleach haha but I've heard good things about 7th gen and Mrs. Meyers, I'll have to give them a try!

Halo bassinet! Doesn't take up a ton of room and you can keep it close.
@folamij the problem I have with the Halo bassinet is it's kind of pricey for something baby is only going to use for a few months. But that can be my fall back plan.

Arms Reach co-sleeper. They're pricey, but DD2 was tiny enough that she didn't reach the weight limit until she was 8 months. Plus it's insanely convenient
