Thanks ladies I called and they called in a script so they must have just forgot it.
@Stankonia2014 thanks the nurse even mentioned that they don't need me to get used to the diet as it's only for the next 10 weeks
@LAMCH1980 i feel the same way... numbers worked so that meal works. It's so hard without the nutritionist. I feel like I'm just "winging it" for the next week. I guess a lot of it will be trial and error to see how my body reacts.
So my original GD educator said I need to count carbs on stuff like bread, sweets, starchy veg, rice etc... She didn't mention other stuff. As an example, I had two slices of whole grain bread today with peanut butter. The bread is 19g per slice so we're good there. I noticed that the PB is 8g per serving and I haven't been taking into account the carbs on the food I eat with my main source of carbs! Eek! Anyone else confused by this? I put a call into my gd for some clarification but curious what you guys are doing.
I started at 12.... and am not currently at 56. And my fasting BS was 110 this morning (was in the 90s) last week, so if it doesn't come down the next few days, I know they will bump it again.
Sigh. So I had GD last pregnancy and they tested me early at 16 weeks this time and I passed. I had to be rechecked again last Monday at 28 weeks and the doctor said they would only call if my 1 hr tolerance test numbers were high. Here it is a week later and I thought I was in the clear but I just got a voicemail from the nurse to call them back. Doctor said if numbers were at all high they wouldn't recommend the 3 hour bc of the GD last time so it looks like I'm joining the club!
Is everyone here counting carbs? Doc told me to eat them in moderation and test periodically (a full day every few days) to check my numbers. If I can keep them in line with moderation I'm good; otherwise his next step would be Metformin instead of strict dietary control.
I keep an eye on my carbs but honestly just eat a pretty low carb diet. I have a glass of milk with breakfast (sometimes with dinner too), a few dried prunes throughout the day with high protein snacks, and a crap ton (that's an exact amount btw) of veggies, eggs, nuts and meat. I have done bedtime snacks of Yasso frozen yogurt bars and diabetic snack bars but have found cheese and a few crackers works just as well if not better.
I had my 1 hour done 2 weeks ago, which I failed with a 139 (they want below a 130). I had a specific diet to follow for 3 days before my 3 hour test. Did my 3 hour last Monday and am considered to have GD because I failed my 1 hour by 1 point (mine was 180, want 179 or below) and my 2 hour was 3 points over (mine was 157, want 154 or under)! They called me to tell me last Tuesday I was positive for GD, but that my doctor would talk to me at my appointment in 2 weeks (which will be next Monday). I'm frustrated that they wouldn't tell me anything more until my appointment next week!
Ugh my sugars are definitely going up, the EXACT same meals that were perfect last several weeks are now spiking my sugars this week (no change in portion sizes or beverage choice). How long do I have to sort out these high numbers before I should call the endocrinologist/ RD (I'm on day 4 of high sugars with zero change to my diet)
I have a "what to expect" question. I hope this wasn't covered before and I understand every doctor might be different. I have my first MFM appt this week after my gd diagnosis. I've seen him before, but for other issues. What did they do at yours? Ultrasound, NST? Bloodwork? How long do your nst's usually last?
@lifeislove87 As you get further along in your pregnancy, your insulin resistance gets worse (that is what my endo has told me) so that's why they have such frequent appointments and why one meal works one week, and then might not the next. Know that it is your body, not you!
@LAMCH1980 At 28 weeks (so in 3 weeks for me), I start having a monthly ultrasound to look at baby's weight and growth, then at 32 weeks will start have ultrasounds and NSTs weekly.
Also, my fasting blood sugar was 83 this morning!!!! 83!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has NEVER been that low in the morning. I am wayyyy too excited about a good blood sugar reading.
My dr told me today that starting at 32 weeks I'll have weekly growth ultrasounds. Anyone else doing this? Not that I mind hehe. I loved seeing her today!

I started weekly u/s two weeks ago, surprisingly though they'll only check growth once more at 32 weeks. I'm doing BPPs (checking breathing, checking movements and tone).
@lmudra -- we will have to have an u/s at 32 and 36 for growth, but no weekly ones unless I start insulin. Seeing LO again is something I'm looking forward to though!
@LAMCH1980 I had regular NSTs with my last pregnancy (not GD related) and they lasted between 1-2 hours, depending on the results they were looking for.
The OB here in the UK doesn't believe in NSTs and thinks they lead to an overabundance of unnecessary interventions. So I don't know what we'll be doing this time.
Here's a fancy little box because I don't have the skills to remove it.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Dd has a track meet tonight, and I just have no idea how long this appt will last. I was trying to give her some idea of if I'd make it to see her. It looks like I might be in for the long haul. I had an nst about a month ago, but it went on for a really long time because I was having contractions. I wasn't sure what to expect.

What has worked for you ladies to get your fasting number down? All of my numbers after meals are good but my fasting is kind of high. Today it was 97.
At this point in time I'm still every two weeks (currently 30 weeks) calling in my numbers weekly and then I have a growth ultrasound at 34 weeks. A friend of mine had a growth ultrasound and they said her baby was pretty big and then he was born and he was like a pound less than they expected him to be. So I am not sure how I feel about the growth ultrasound but I am excited to see my little man.
@tmrussell, My fasting is always high, like over 100, but the only thing that has helped keep them lower was eating a bedtime snack.
Ill give my spiel on growth u/s again, but I'll keep it brief. I had bi-monthly u/s for DD2 and they induced based on her weight and suspected IUGR. They said she weighed 4lbs, 4oz and I was induced and she was born the very next day and weighed 6lbs, 5oz. I wish I hadn't induced based solely on her weight.
I had a growth ultrasound last time at 36 weeks and they estimated he was 8'12' at that moment. Almost 4 weeks later he arrived via c/s (due to frank breech presentation) weighing in at 8'12'! I'm going to be much more suspicious about that this time!
So I had my normal breakfast sandwich this morning and checked my 1 hr to have a reading of 155. During the work week I can only check at 2 hr, and that is usually in the 90's. Sure enough, I checked at 2 hr and was at 99.
I'll make sure to ask my doctor on Monday, but does this mean I shouldn't be eating what I'm having because my 1 hr is so high?
@Heliumgirl717 I think your fine too. My doctor told me just to test at 2 hours and if I am unable to (meeting at work or something) just to make note of that. I would focus on whichever your doctor recommended 1 hour or 2 and not do both so you don't drive yourself crazy.
Thank you @Stankonia2014 and @tmrussell ....I've had a really off day of numbers, so I'm just going to chalk it up to stress. I'm at 31 weeks, so I think I have a few more to go before I get to the point of really wonky numbers.
As far as meal planning I am going to stick with a lean meat, some mini potatoes and either broccoli or cauliflower for dinners this week.
