What is it about the RNP that contributes to flat spots? Is this a concern with any inclined surface. If so, why?
The problem is the incline. Before babies have head and neck control, they have to fight gravity in order to keep their head straight up. Extended use (like over night) can be a problem, if a baby's head starts to drift/tilt a little to one side it can make the tendons and muscles tight, which will cause them to tilt even when not on an incline.
The "flat" issues associated with that are then caused by a baby to constantly looking to one side and developing preferences.
ETA: yes tummy time can help prevent flat spots but if a child has torticollis that is a whole other ball game which is normally the case for plagiocephaly. Brachycephaly is the condition that is generally thought of with kiddos and lack of tummy time.
This. We did tummy time and everything. We had used the RnP for overnight sleep since she slept so well and had some reflux. She may very well have still preferred one side over another while on her back, so it's hard to tell. We're playing it safe this time and limiting how much use the RnP will get used with this LO.
I know someone on here mentioned the joovy caboose stroller with an extra seat... I'm looking for a height measurement when it's completely folded. Can't find that dimension online and I'm struggling to find something in store that will fit in the trunk of my Ford Fusion.
@PghMom412 I have the Joovy Caboose Too! Its currently in the back of my garage though otherwise I would measure it for you.
I drive a Toyota Highlander and looked up the trunk space... with my third row up I can fit the stroller. It says it has 13.8 cubic feet of trunk space... in trying to find a more specific dimension for you!

Thanks @hp_momma. I found a dimension online for it in the "sit and stand" form but wasn't sure if adding that extra seat made it any bigger. I suppose it could always be removed to load it up. I think it will fit.

The extra seat doesn't add any width or length! I've folded it with and without and can't tell a difference!

@PghMom412 I will add that the car seat attachment bar for the front does make it longer and I had to take that off when putting it in my car (Kia sorento at the time) but that bar is super quick to snap on and off!

Because we are traveling with the tot this weekend, I thought I would share 2 of my biggest baby related recommendations for travel. We have the BabyBjorn travel crib, and I LOVE it. It's super compact and easy to fit in a car, quick to set up. It seems really small, like they might grow out of it the second the my can stand, but DS is 2.5 and still using it with no problem. It's not a full size crib (or even close) but it totally works. And the second recommendation is an Extra Large Zip Top Boat and Tote bag from LL Bean. This thing is massive and SO durable. I use packing cubes to keep everything organized inside, but it's big enough to fit clothes, toys, books, baby monitor, diapers, pillows, blankets...it's just awesome and has worked for us since birth.
I wasn't sure where to post this so I'm hoping this thread is ok. I just received this second-hand from a friend. It comes with a pretty sturdy base (not the stool pictured lol) but I'm wondering how safe it is based on the fact that there is only the small mesh parts around the outside. Is this a safe bassinet to use?
I splurged and bought a ninna nanna bassinet for DS. We really liked it and we used the bassinet piece as a toy basket until we put it back together as a bassinet for this baby.
I also was unsure of using a stroller with a bassinet but loved the look so I got a Contours Bliss 4in1 stroller that could hold the infant seat like a snap n go or the bassinet attachment which then turned into a big kid seat. I honestly only used the bassinet a few times and DS wasn't a huge fan. It is a great stroller though- it has enough room in the bottom to carry a whole load of groceries- I never needed a cart.
I just googled Graco bassinets and it doesn't look like that model is still on the market. I'd try to determine when it was purchased. It might not be up to standards.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot thanks. I did try Google but I couldn't find it either. It's obviously been around the block and I think the fact that my gut is telling me it's not likely the safest choice should be enough of an answer for me. I just wanted another opinion. Thank you for taking the time
I'm working on figuring out remaining "essentials" we need and I'm feeling stuck on what to put newborn baby in to sleep. As a FTM I have these grand idea's of perfectly using the little sleep sack swaddles and having a good sleeping baby. IDK what to put under those though? Without baby getting too hot. Footie PJs? a gown? just a onesie? What are your favorites?
@nda_roxybabe DD was an Oct baby. We did footie PJs or a gown under the swaddle sacks. With this kid being born in May in AZ, we may do a onesie under the sack. Then again, he'll be in our room, which gets pretty cold with the AC. So, no idea? It will probably be trial and error.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot That was kind of my thought process. You're supposed to dress baby in whatever you'd wear +1, right? I asked H what we do at bed in the summer and he said tank top/ t shirt with leggings/ shorts and either the thin down comforter or a blanket. We have the AC around 72 and ceiling fan on. I guess I'll have onesies and I'll get pj's because baby will prob wear those during the day anyway.
@nda_roxybabe DD was born at the end of March in So Cal. I would put her in a onesie, footie pjs, the sleep sack, and a swaddle blanket. If she looked like she was getting hot I took off the swaddle.
This I will probably just do footie pjs and a sleep sack or swaddle.
@nda_roxybabe DD1 was a December AZ baby and I did a long sleeve onesie and sleep sack. DD2 was a March TX baby and I did the same thing. We always kept our house at 78 in the summer in AZ though with fans on...

In Arizona we did! 78 is cool in the summer when it's 110 outside lol. In Texas since it was more humid we kept it closer to 72. And in Washington I have no idea what our house temp is at because it's historic housing with no AC! Its like a game to figure out what temp to keep the house at every time we move to a new climate haha

Omg my husband would probably think I am trying to murder him if I tried to turn up the thermostat. Our house is at 68 all.the.time. My mom keeps her house that cold too. It's so funny how different everyone is.

SITB
We keep our house in AZ at 78-80. I don't think our AC could keep it cooler. My parents in the midwest have their house at 68 in the summer. They hate visiting during AC weather and my energy always spikes because they keep cranking it down.
Anyone have any experience with the Chicco Lullago bassinet? We used the pack n play by our bed with our second but it takes up so much room. I want something simple and small but big enough for him to be able to stay in for roughly 6 months
@mamatowildones I'm also looking at the Chicco Lullago bassinet or the Graco travel lite, for next to our bed. I'm nervous the Chicco Lullago will be too short and give our dog too much access to the baby at night while were sleeping. (Not that I think she'll harm the baby but she will be very very curious and is quite the kisser haha)

My parents keep their house in Vegas 68-71 in the summer. It's insane! I raid her linen closet for blankets everytime I stay. 78 would feel SO much nicer!
@bacorrea See I'm not crazy! Lol I bet when you move to El Paso you'll be able to crank it up a little more because it's a dry heat. You really won't want to be paying the electric bill for 68° AC for 6-8 months a year! It would be outrageous.

Haha I am with you! I would be happy at 72, it's my DH. I don't know what his deal is.

Ok so in between posting and now I bought it haha. I set it up in like 2 minutes and I love it. Our target had it set up if you want to look at one. My main concern for the kids and dog will be downstairs and we have an old taller bassinet for down there. Great reviews for it. Except people said they had a hard time finding sheets. I didn't buy any. It has a removable mattress pad that I can wash when I need to.
We got the Chicco Lullago and just set it up today. We have dogs and it doesn't seem too low to the ground to me so far... here's a pic if it helps! It's bigger than I thought it would be so that's a plus. Don't mind the doll, my son was testing it out
I'm really struggling with whether to get a double stroller. I hated the stroller that came with our travel system (bulky, poor storage, awkward fold). I ultimately ditched it for a Maclaren umbrella stroller when my son was big enough. He will be over 2.5 when this baby is born, but I still need a stroller option for him because he's a runner and tends to bolt when we're out walking. I've hated most of the true doubles I've seen in stores. So far, the only stroller that appeals to me is the City Select. I like that it can be a single or double, which is nice because I foresee plenty of walks with just the baby when my son is in preschool. And the weight limit for the second seat is up to 45lbs, which is awesome. My concerns are total weight of the stroller, since I'll be getting it in/out of my trunk frequently, and cost. I'm kicking myself for not investing in a nicer stroller with my first kid. Anyone STMs have thoughts on this?
@slowmo I have the city select and I LOVE it. It was a gift so I didn't have to pay that high price but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't hesitate. I got it when my first was born so I've used it for a single, double, and 2 days ago I bought the glider board attachment. It is super easy to get in and out of the trunk. I take the chairs out and collapse the main stroller and pile it in. No complaints whatsoever.
Thanks, @mamatowildones! That really helps. I also like the potential for a glider board. I think he'll really like it once I can trust him not to jump off and head for the hills!
@slowmo my DD will be 3 at the end of this month and I was gifted the City Select for Christmas. And like @mamatowildones, I love it! I wish I had gotten it from the start with DD.
It it is a bit heavier than a single stroller, but not too bad. It is super easy to fold and I like that the break is up by the handle bar. The basket is huge and it is so much easier to maneuver than our Graco. The price is a little high, but look out for deals--mine was $200 off with the second seat included. I think it is definitely worth it.
I'm all for double strollers! DD2 will be 3 and I know she will still want to sit in the stroller sometimes. I got my double (Joovy Caboose) when DD2 was born and DD1 was just over 2 and it was definitely well worth it!

I have an uppababy vista from kid 1 and yeah it isn't super light but I love that damn thing. I got the second seat for it and don't think taking it in and out of the car is that bad. Plus the giant basket underneath is amaaaaaaaazing, I can not sing it's praises loudly enough.
DD will be 3 two weeks before my due date. I got the Graco Bravo for 2 and it works perfect for us. I didn't want to invest in a full double because I don't think DD will sit in the stroller enough to invest all the $$ I am keeping my britax to have for a single when DD isn't with us or for when she is completely done with the stroller.
I really wanted a Vista used as a double, but couldn't justify the purchase since my nearly 3 year old rarely rides in a stroller and much prefers to run. We also got the Chicco Bravo for 2, since we already had the Chicco Keyfit infant seats, and we really like it so far too! We tried it out with a friends baby, and the toddler actually really liked both the sit and stand option.
