Re: Randoms and Questions 2.27 - 3.3

  • @bacorrea. Thanks. Good to know it is still covered by Tricare.  As much as I hate the Army sometimes, I love Tricare.

  • @bacorrea. My 2.5 year old is an awful sleeper too. Parents of two tell me all that time that the hardest adjustment is going back to sleepless nights and I'm over here thinking that shouldn't be a problem bc I haven't slept an entire night in ages.
  • @clebl24 yes! Did you see the whole pump system I got that was covered? I'm super impressed with Tricare lately. That's always my argument when DH talks about getting out/staying in, I am like DUDE THE INSURANCE ALONE!

Seriously we have a friend who was 100% getting out and then he found out he had testicular cancer and he was just so impressed by Tricare/military hospitals/how he was treated/etc. He totally changed and stayed in.

And on the sleeping...omg I know. I'm just hoping I can get them to sync some sleeping together. Or otherwise I am going to have to start doing drugs or something. JUST KIDDING I would never. But sometimes I cry thinking about it.

@kayemjay2 No side eye here. DH and I have been throwing around the idea of a sip and see to try to have as many people come at once and cut down on the 3 separate visitors a day for 4 weeks that we had with DS. I certainly wouldn't expect gifts, although I know that in our case all the great aunts and great grandmas would probably bring outfits.

Not to be *that* person who asks about baby shower/party etiquette...but does anyone see any potential issues/faux pas with DH and I hosting a combined house warming party/sip & see once baby is here and we're settled into our new house? It wouldn't be a formal thing by any means, and we'd likely just have a Facebook invite or something. We're just thinking it would be a fun way to involve our friends and family in our big life changes and also to have food and booze. Would anyone side-eye this?
I mean this is totally against etiquette. However, I wouldn't bat an eye at this and would happily come. It's really what you and your husband are comfortable doing and you only know the kind of friends you have. I can name a handful of my friends that would be super judgey if I did this ya know?

This is a huge factor and in deciding to stay in! But if you ever decide to leave AD, we never had an issue with the Tricare Reserve Select program for Reserve/NG! It's essentially the same thing as Tricare Standard, you pay a monthly premium on top of it though but it's SO much less than any other insurance. Our stipulation if DH ever gets out is that he will do NG or reserves mainly for the insurance and retirement!

I learned something last week that I had forgotten to mention... apparently due to the change in health guidelines around circumcision, some insurance companies now circumcision as an optional procedure and therefore will not cover it. So if you are planning to circumcise, you might want to check with your insurance company to see if they will cover it. And if they don't but you still want it done, then you might need to check with the hospital to see if they will even do it during your stay or if it has to be done by the pediatrician after discharge.
Yes! One of my OBGYNs let me know. He said that they had to pay $300 OOP for their kid 3 years ago, so make sure you check!
FYI - it is still covered by Tricare.
Just called my insurance company and ours is covered, caveat being that it is done during our hospital stay and not after being discharged.

  • @kayemjay2 - I don't see any reason for a side eye! It's a couple of really good reasons to celebrate. I feel like if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to come!!!

We are Tricare Reserve. DH is National Guard. The coverage is still great.  I think $205 a month for entire family and his civilian job pays for it.

Absolutely, I took a screen shot so I wouldn't forget.  I got my Rx last week. Who did you use again?

I'm debating between Medela PISA (again) since I have all the compatible parts or trying Spectra pump.  A lot of ladies in my local breastfeeding FB group said they pumped larger quantities with the Spectra 2 pump.

  • @clebl24 I don't have any prior experience but did a bunch of research last night and am planning on getting the Spectra S2. From the reviews, videos and website research it always was the winner.
  • @Louise_Belcher originally DD  told us she wanted a sister and told us if it was a brother we had to send him back!  :D Shes' 3 BTW ... well low and behold baby #2 is a boy. So we were looking for ideas to get her more excited. Turns out that over time she's excited about a brother now anyways, but we want still love the theme :)

Thanks for all of the responses! To clarify- there would absolutely be no registry and we actively do no want presents. We have a 15 month old and seriously too much stuff as it is...haha. We basically want to show our loved ones our new place, new tiny person, and have some booze/food. Also, I am excited to be able to partake in the "sip" part of the sip & see :)
@kayemjay2 This sounds like a great idea and I wouldn't side-eye it at all! (Though I don't really side-eye a lot.) And RE: the bold, so true. A big part of me just wants to have my shower after the baby is here so I can drink the punch...

@clebl24 I ordered the Spectra S2 this time and have a ton of medela parts from my last pump.  I ordered an adapter from amazon so I can still use them all without crazy modifications to the pump.

  • Now that a few people brought up breast pumps again, I was wondering. Do we have a thread dedicated to pumps? I know we had one in regards to what insurance does/does not cover. But I couldn't remember if we have one specifically about pros/cons/opinions on pumps?
  • I think we should have a thread dedicated to pumping questions.
  • I am gambling and trying the Medela Sonata. I am not excited about new parts but I never heard of the Spectra last time so I am hesitant about the hype. I think it will be an easier transition from the Medela PISA.

Yes that sounds about what we paid. DH was reserves for a couple years while going to school. I had DD2 with Tricare Reserve, I think my total hospital bill was $65. Definitely can not beat the coverage!

  • @clebl24 i went through Pumping essentials! I  just to verify what I had to do and they were super helpful and it only took 1 week to get my pump! They had the spectra as an option, two other brands and the medela. I went with medela.
  • @nda_roxybabe - my mom was the same way! She had 3 of us, and the most weight she ever gained was 20 pounds. I can do that in a week.

  • My Mom (and me) have always been thin. We shared clothes when I was in HS (00!). As an adult I've put on a bit more weight, but she's followed suit as she's aged as well. She'd always tell me how small she was in pregnancy and if she saw someone other than her regular Doctor they wouldn't believe how far along she was. I was SO sure I'd never have more than a minuscule bump. So weird how people truly do carry differently.

It's so true! You could even carry way differently with your next child (if you want more children).
