  • I actually thought the 3 hour drink wasn't that bad... tasted a little better than the 1 hour. Drinking it cold with a straw definitely helps

good luck to everyone on their tests!

  • Anyone who hasn't done the GTT ask to do the 2hr (one step) one to start with, it's pass/fail there is no next option, so if you do fail it, it's a confirmed diagnosis with no 3hr test afterwards.

  • @PartiallyDomesticated why wouldn't OBs order that instead of a 1 hour to begin with? Seems odd...

  • @partiallydomesticated, I did the 2 hour test last week and passed (thankfully). I had no idea I was putting all of my eggs in one basket. I didn't request the 2 hr test. It is what doc ordered based on my risk factors, maybe bc my dad is diabetic.

@jens_hoes and @lilmisscrafty sorry about your results.  Good luck on round 2!
  • @BabyMC517 my theory is that because it's OOP or through insurance in the US they get more money by doing the 2 step test.

@clebl24 it's easier to pass because they also take a baseline, so rather than an arbitrary number like 130, it shows how much it rises and falls over 2hrs based on your starting number. So yes you are putting all your eggs in one basket, but it gives a more accurate depiction of you personally than the 2 step test, which is why it would have been given to you with a family history of diabetes.

I'm not sure about that. I have single payer health care (military family) so my doctor is a salaried army physician and the lab is in a military hospital as well, they don't submit claims to insurance or anything like that.

@CarmCeG 62 days to EDD for me! It's starting to go by quickly but still not fast enough for me.
  • @Kipperoo LOL! I too work in a quite open space and there's been several times I've "Ow!-ed" out loud.

  • @WombThereItIs , I work with some VERY touchy people and I'm technically on the senior management team, so I was just trying to cover my bases...I swear under my breath CONSTANTLY but this one made a few people turn so I felt it was appropriate...the HR guy just laughed at me.

In other news, my arm is KILLING me from the TDAP I got this morning and I am using it as an excuse to have my husband put DS down for bed. I always use my left arm to carry him around and my left arm is pretty much useless. But I'm sure I could manage bed time, I just don't really want to because I'm exhausted and feel like crap. My nurse was awesome last week and before giving me the TDAP she was like "do you use your left or right to carry your toddler?" I was totally going to have her do it in the left arm too until she reminded me that I use the left for carrying!
I'd definitely use it as an excuse for your DH to do bedtime tonight though!

  • @Kipperoo I will be getting that on Friday and am nervous. It usually ends up with my arm hurting like hell and on occasion has given me flu like feeling. Not excited. Hope your arm is feeling better soon!

You guys are reminding me of some shot I got in September that made my arm hurt. Now I'm wondering if I already got it...
ETA: nvm, I think it was Typhoid. I just now remember it made my arm hurt like a mother.

  • @PartiallyDomesticated I'm going tomorrow for my GTT and it's a 2-hr. I didn't even notice until after I left the dr that that's what it said so I couldn't ask. I'm half excited to be out for the test because that means I don't have to listen DH complain about his man cold. But that also means I have to hear him complain when I get home. Oh well.
  • Are anyone else's joints stiff and achy? I notice it throughout my lower half. Could that be the relaxin?

My hips and back are so stiff! Especially in the morning or when I'm just trying to switch positions.  I'm pretty sure it's the relaxin or something related.

@CherryBananas if you can remember stretch with feet flexed not pointed it will keep you from Charlie horses. This helps me tremendously
I try but I find that I'm doing it when I'm half asleep. Sometimes I catch myself in time, but at least three times a week in don't realize what's happening until I'm jumping out of bed in pain!

@Jens_Hoes @LilMissCrafty I'm so sorry. Fingers crossed you pass the 3 hour!

  • @SKZW  What a scary and stressful experience! I'm glad to hear your little guy is home and recovering.  Hospitals with kids are terrifying.  Get some sleep!

Count me in to the sore arm/Tdap club.  I got it yesterday.  Last night I felt like I might throw up for awhile.  Is that a side effect? My blood sugar levels have also been running high, which the internet tells me can happen.  I'm hoping my doctor will let those high numbers slide and not count them towards the possibility of getting on GD meds.  It's really stressing me out and that's not helping my numbers either.

  • @SKZW I'm so glad your son is ok!
My sister is a hospital pediatric nurse, and she does have many patients who have to be in the hospital for a long time period. She gets super connected with them, and their families.  It's a job I don't think I could ever do, but because of that I know what you mean about the perspective of people having to be at the hospital with their kids for so long.

I have this super urge to nest, but all of the stuff left to do it seems to early for (not due until end of May). I don't really need all of the baby bottles in my kitchen 3 mos before baby....
I washed and put all the bottles away 10 weeks ago lol.
i will have to sterilise them when we're ready to use them but they're ready to go.
I really want to do more but all I really need to do is some nursery decoration which I can't afford right now, and packing my hospital bag, but it's not even the right season to be able to get what I want to take yet -.-
