  • What is a labor buddy?

Also, can someone explain the "Hogwarts" thing? I think I get it, but not sure... :-D
A labor buddy is usually the person due after you who you keep updated on your progress though labor so they can update the rest of the board.

I am assuming "Hogwarts" is the pet name for FB group?
Yep - I can't remember who coined it, but Hogwarts is code for the fb group that'll eventually be formed for the active members here.

  • @jayandaplus - I've been wondering about Hogwarts too, but was too embarrassed to ask! I felt like it was one of those 'if you have to ask, you'll never know' things.  :p
  • @emilyalso I thought the same thing but figured my curiosity outweighed my pride.
  • I just hope some muggles will stick around these parts for those of us who don't have fb!

Me too. I don't have fb either.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for pregnancy insomnia? I thought my sleeping issues were because I've had a cough/cold with congestion, but that's under control now and I still cannot sleep. I'm talking about can't even fall asleep and are then up all night. I'm lucky if I get one hour of sleep. I need A LOT more than that to be a functioning adult. Things I've tried already: pregnancy pillow, cool room, get up and do little tasks around the house, different position. None of these make any difference for me!

Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm miserable! Is chamomile tea safe during pregnancy? I've found conflicting reports.

    Thanks!
  • @Icarriedawatermelon, are you drinking any caffeine throughout the day or eating sugar late at night? Caffeine was really impacting my sleep so I had to cut it out for a while. I'm back to drinking one cup of coffee in the morning, but if I have trouble sleeping again, I'll get rid of it.

I have had no caffeine whatsoever in weeks. I usually don't have much in terms of food after dinner, so I'm thinking it's not sugar.

    Thanks for the response!
  • @Icarriedawatermelon (tagging is being weird on the mobile app right now so hopefully you see this. I have no real advice for you but commiseration! I was up from 3:30-4:30 today and fell back asleep in time for my alarm to wake me up at 5:30. :( I am still getting much more than you so I can't even imagine. There is conflicting info about low-dose melatonin and it appears to be safe but it would something I would ask the doc about before trying. I always try to remember that laying quietly is still better rest than making myself all worked up about not sleeping. Not so helpful in the middle of the night though.
  • @Icarriedawatermelon I take unisom for sleep every night (its active ingredient is also in Dicigles so totally safe in pregnancy). You can also take Benadryl, which I do sometimes rotate in. I asked my doctor and a separate midwife about chamomile tea and both said it was fine

  • @chailife34 I hope some people stick around too. My 07/14 BMB lasted a few months after Hogsworth, but did end up dying out a lot sooner than my 11/11 BMB.

@Icarriedawatermelon Ditto to the Unisom!  I took a half pill every night for the first 20 weeks or so to help with the nausea (per my doc's suggestion), and it was magic to stop that and to get amazing sleep.  My doc said I can continue to use it anytime I want to get some sleep.
  • I second the unisom idea. No TV before bedtime, light reading, maybe even do some yoga before bed to cal your body down.

I'll join the sore, out of breath, exhaustion group! Luckily we don't have stairs at our house, but when I have to use them at work, oh man am I out of breath! It's ridiculous! LO tends to sit low or in just enough of an awkward position that it's uncomfortable to bend over, which doesn't help with packing. Pregnancy is fun!

My back and hips are so sore from yesterday and packing Sunday. We had an event on campus and I ended up having to sit for 2 hours on a hard chair that just reeked havoc on my low back/hips! I'm sure H will give me a massage tonight, but I feel bad asking because its his birthday.

Also, during that event our realtor and loan officer were trying to get a hold of me, which made me feel so anxious and stressed because I couldn't leave the event. H talked with them, but I was the only one who could provide the info because it was regarding my student loans, which we knew would be an issue, but our loan officer had figured it all out. Guess that wasn't what the underwriter wanted and I had to give more info. So, now I'm feeling like it will be my fault if we don't get the house because I have too much student debt...it was a rough day.

I'm sorry to everyone that is going through extra stressful events other than being pregnant! It is not fun and it makes me feel like I'm hurting LO when I'm stressed, which in turn adds more stress...ugh sick cycle...hoping everything is resolved or at least we have an answer today so we can move on. Good luck to everyone with all of the different situations going on (can't remember everyone to tag)!

Beautiful picture @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot ! I did remember that tag haha

ETA: H talked with the loan officer and he feels much better about everything, but it is still a waiting game and up to the underwriter. Hoping it doesn't take too long, but it could take days. There goes getting back the initial deposit we had to put down when we went into contract...oh well, FX and many prayers that everything works out!

  • @RainyDays86I say unsticky intros. Maybe U/S too...We can always bump that as we have new ones :)

  • I agree with unstickying threads. There's too many! Thanks for making the birth announcement threads @RainyDays86.
  • @RainyDays86 I vote to unsticky as well.

@vrj0522 better safe than sorry- you'd rather be (potentially) annoying, and know that things are going well with your baby.

I know we had talked about questions to ask a future pediatrician, but I don't know where exactly that list is. I spoke with the dr's office this morning, and I spoke with them about:
    -on call hours/emergency availability
-whether the office works with any local hospitals
-how quickly the baby will be/should be seen
-how quickly I can get the baby in when sick/how many options I have if her pediatrician is unavailable
    -vaccination policy

    Was there anything I missed?
  • @Icarriedawatermelon I've had horrible pregnancy insomnia with my second and my third pregnancies.  Half a Unisom did the trick for me (the sleep tabs, not the sleep gels).  I've always had pretty good sleep hygiene and been an excellent sleeper, so it was totally foreign for me to deal with that.

@vrj0522 If you're worried at all, I would call.  I had an anterior placenta with my second and there were several third trimester appointments where I couldn't promise he had been moving regularly.  Fifteen minutes of a non-stress test helped everyone's anxiety a lot.

@BabyMC517 The loan process is so stressful no matter what the situation.  Do you have a financing contingency?

  • @skeetied I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but we had to put $1000 down when we went into contract and would have been able to get that back if things fell through. Well, when the appraisal didn't come back high enough and we had to reconfigure everything plus a miscommunication about the down payment, among other things, the sellers wanted that lifted so they would get to keep it if everything fell through before they would resign the contract. We ended up agreeing to it (slightly regretting) because our loan officer and realtor said they are 98% sure everything will be okay (and are still saying it now). We've now lost that money with having to extend the closing date while the underwriter reviews the new documents given for my student loans. I told our realtor that I really hope this goes through because if not we've just lost money (down plus inspections and appraisal) if it doesn't. It just irritates me that they feel "inconvenienced" and are "unhappy" that this is going on. Well, so are we! And they haven't paid for anything and we've only asked for help with closing costs. This makes me never want to buy a house again even though I'm pretty sure we will!

  • @vrj0522 I'll add my voice to those telling you to call in! I'd always much rather be overcautious. And, if you are able to get in to have a quick check, you'll feel much better than sitting around wondering and worrying. My OB saves times throughout each day for situations where he wants to check on a baby that day, I'm sure most OBs would be similar!
  • @vrj0522 Have you chugged ice water or OJ? If you're worried at all, call in. It cant hurt. I'm sure baby is jsut resting, but good for your peace of mind!

  • I'd probably rather unsticky the ultrasounds thread over the intro thread. I know we're pretty late in the game now, but we do get an occasional newcomer and the intro thread might help them feel more welcome and cut down on individual intro threads.
  • @vrj0522 - Hoping to hear a good report of an active baby soon!
  • What about maybe unstickying the "baby's sex" thread? I assume everyone at this point would have weighed in on it.
I agree with this. Plus the info is captured in the spreadsheet if anyone wants to look.

Anyone else's mobile app being buggy today? It's not bringing me to the right part of the page on almost any posts, tags are off, etc. I'm mostly a lurker lately during the week but it's making it so much harder!!
  • i second unsticking ultrasounds but not unsticking intros and rules/board org. I think we should keep those.

Anyone having problems with a certain meal? For the past couple weeks, breakfast hasn't been sitting well with me. I've been trying to track it to figure out what's bothering me, but I'm not sure, and it's the only meal that I seem to not be tolerating well. I tend to either have acid reflux (I think...self diagnosing here) or what feels like a drop in blood sugar (weakness, shakiness), or sometimes both. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do about it... I ended up leaving work pretty early today because I just wasn't feeling well at all.
  • @starphish18, have you taken the GTT yet? I had GD with DS2 and remember feeling that way with breakfast if I did not have enough protein with my bed time snack. Do you tend to eat the same foods for breakfast? I wonder if it's just a pregnancy reaction to a certain food.

  • @nda_roxybabe I haven't had a steak in probably 12 years, but a filet from Outback sounds really darn good right now.
