@jen_shoes TSA says no but I always ask for a pat down because I'm paranoid and to be honest those things just haven't been around long enough for me to feel sure we know all the long-term effects. You can totally ask for a pat down, just make sure you give yourself plenty of time because it can take longer to go through security if you do.
Edited to add I ask for a pat down when pregnant. Not during normal non-pregnant travel.
@Jen_Shoes - No, they're totally fine. According to my doctor, the amount of radiation you're exposed to with a scanner is much lower than the amount you're exposed to on the plane itself. I flew numerous times while pregnant with DS, and never had any issues.

@Jen_Shoes, I'm the same as @RainyDays86. I always ask for a pat down when pregnant. Never hurts to be extra safe.
So I've mentioned it a couple of times this week, but I caught MH's bronchitis. I have already emailed my doctor because I have almost taken an entire bottle of Tylenol (20 pills) since Monday night. Which he told me was okay, but now he wants to put me on antibiotics and when I asked if they were safe for the baby he said "relatively". WTF?!? I don't want something that's relatively safe. Has anyone else had to take antibiotics while pregnant? I'm leaning towards just suffering in silence and not taking anything more than Tylenol.
@nda_roxybabe and @rosemarylaff I know I'm late to the convo, but I was just at my OB and was the only one in the waiting room when Tim McGraw "remember me" came on and I was having to hold back the tears. Tim McGraws slower older songs like that just always get me! I used to be obsessed with country music, and still love it, but dang it truly is hard to listen to when pregnant. Don't even get me started on that Alan Jackson song, Remember when... It came on when Dh, DD, and I were playing recently and all the lyrics but esp. the part about "The sound of little feet was the music we danced to week to week" just punched me right in the gut.
There was a mom in the F17 bmb. She worked for an airline and I think she was a pilot. She advised against going through the whole body scan while pregnant. When I flew a few months ago, DH took DD through the medical detector before I could stop him. When I asked to skip the scanner & do the medical detector, TSA was super rude. They made me go through a physical (and pretty invasive) pat down. They told me I could only do the medical detector if I was holding DD, which is BS because they've waved our entire family through it before.
So weird how TSA is so different in airports. I've never had to go through the full body scanner while pregnant (or carrying DDs) they just automatically directed me to the metal detector instead. My OB has always told me no to the full body scan and just do the metal detector instead. But we also have TSA Precheck (sooo worth it if you travel often!) and that doesn't require the full body scan anyways.

@achays11 Ughh I caught bronchitis as well. Please go see your doctor! I waited probably too long and by the time I went in the doctor was not impressed with my lungs and almost sent me for a chest X-ray. I've been on an inhaler and some mucinex and it's really helped in the last week.

@achays11 - I had a terrible sinus infection around 8 weeks - I tried to tough it out, but eventually had a fever and that scared me more than medicine! The worst thing that happened when I took the antibiotic was that I ended up with a yeast infection (a probiotic probably would have helped prevent it). I'm sure some are safer than others - I would just make sure your Doc and the RPh know you're pregnant to double check that it's OK to take.
@achays11 I'd talk to your MD. I'd question reason for antibiotics. There are some in the same pregnancy category as Tylenol. Theoretically any medication has risks, it's a matter of severity and benefit. Sorry you're sick, it's the worst while pregnant! Good luck!
@achays11 I had an antibiotic cream that I had to use for a bacterial infection when I was 10 weeks I believe and then I had to have antibiotics again maybe a month or so later for an infected abscess on my labia. I asked if it was safe and they said the type they gave me was, so I think it really depends on the type of antibiotic as some are considered safe, or safer, than others.

I posted a few days back about feeling like I was having heart palpitations and I was lightheaded and dizzy for a few days. I went to my Dr and my blood pressure is low (80/40) he said it was fairly normal at this point in pregnancy and nothing to be concerned about. Just wondering if anyone has any advice about how to deal with the symptoms or raise my blood pressure a bit?

My Dr. just said to sit/lay down when I feel like that. I have read to eat some salty food to raise your blood pressure. Obviously you'd want to be careful doing this, but it's a great excuse for me to have a mini bag of salt n vinegar chips that I've been craving!
@Amybee5 ditto what @nda_roxybabe & @laurapalmier have said. Slowing down has helped. Watching how fast I get up or how fast I walk. And eating regular meals so I don't get too hungry.
@SWE2 I got my box today too, only difference was I got the elephant instead of the giraffe.
Also after going to the doctor today it turns out I do have an umbilical hernia that I got since being pregnant. He said hopefully is heals on its own after the baby comes. If not I'll be looking at surgery to repair it. Guess there's not much you can do to prevent, and nothing can be done while you're still pregnant unless it progresses to something life threatening.
I know I've seen this come up before, so please tag me in an old post if you've already answered these questions! I am planning to fly about 2.5 hours to see a friend, and I'll have 14mo DS with me. I spoke to a girl with a baby the same age who said she has always held her baby in her lap with no trouble. So I guess my questions are...
Is it reasonable to expect to hold/entertain him for that long? Or is it worth the ~$300 to get him a seat? If you check your carseat, did you get a bag thing for it? Is it a lot of trouble to gate check a stroller? Does it need a bag? Any other pointers? (If you can't tell, this will be my first time flying with a baby!)
Oh man! Sorry to hear that @BeachMommy2B that's no fun at all! Hopefully it heals and you won't need surgery! What can you do in the meantime for pain? Just Tylenol like everything else?
I want my my welcome box! It said Monday but that seems awful long for amazon...maybe it will come early! Fingers crossed!!

-it's uncomfortable but doable. I would definitely do it for 2.5 hours. -yes I ordered a bag from Amazon. -I didn't have any issues with the stroller. I used it through the airport and checked it at the plan, it's normally right before you get on the plane, I didn't use a bag. -I didn't take my expensive stroller or car seat to fly with in case they got banged up/lost during travel. I bought a $60ish convertible car seat from Amazon and used an umbrella stroller. Snacks & iPad saved us. They don't understand about ears popping so bring a lollipop for kiddo to suck on during take off.
I also got my welcome box. It was the same as the others. I actually had a baby registry from my last baby in 2015 and never signed up for the box because it was always out of stock. Surprisingly it still let me get it and it wasn't too late!
Everything @bacorrea said regarding flying. My only hesitation is how far along will you be pregnancy wise? That's where I could see it becoming uncomfortable holding your 14 month old PLUS your belly in the way. It won't be easy to bend over to get the stuff out of from below your seat.... I flew at 21wks and had no lap child and was already uncomfortable.

@BabyMC517 yes Tylenol can help, but the biggest issue is it was caused by the bronchitis I have. Apparently it's viral so an antibiotic won't help, but the doctor did give me some prescription cough syrup to help with coughing at night to try to give my stomach a rest.

SITB (first time quoting): 2.5 hours is not that bad to try to hold him in your lap, but definitely take into account what a pp said about belly size and your comfort. I flew with DD at 15 months and I just made sure to have some games and music on the iPad for her and lots of snacks. Definitely a silly cup for take off and landing to help with the ears.
How long will you be staying wherever you are going? This to me would determine what I would bring. For example, with DD we stayed less than a week. I carried her car seat to the gate and had them check it there. I was able to pick it up at the gate upon landing so I know it didn't get jostled around. I didn't bring a stroller because it was just one extra thing to worry about and I wore her anytime we went out.
Also, if you won't have help at either airport, it may be a good idea to consolidate your baggage and pack one big bag for the two of you. I am assuming you are not going to a remote location, so anything that isn't clothing (i.e: diapers, food, milk) you can buy there.
Amazon welcome kit was supposed to arrive yesterday but we came home to a UPS note that I had to go pick it up. UGH! Picked it up on my way to work an extra shift and didn't have time to open it. Got home and DS was still awake. I shower before I touch anything or anyone (ICU nurse in me) and he wouldn't stop crying until I was out and could pick him up. So I lay here as I'm putting him to sleep and catching up on here itching to open that box! Lol. What is it about free stuff?! Lol
@emilyalso I don't have any kiddos but wanted to chime in on the flying while pregnant. I flew at 21/22 weeks on a long haul and it was hard to get things off the floor etc, harder to get up/out between seats and all. If you are holding LO in your lap it may be even harder. Plus on even a 2.5 hour flight you need to stand up and move around a little to help prevent DVT. Can you get a seat in the bulk head so you and LO have a little more leg room/room to get around?
@mrsrep123 how did I not know you worked ICU too? Or maybe I did and my special, overworked, pregnant brain forgot! What kind of ICU do you work in?
@ShadeofGreen816 I worked in a trauma & general ICU for 8 years before transferring to PACU/Recovery after my son was born a year and a half ago. At first I missed the adrenaline-rushed, crazy-intensive cases, but still get in a little bit at my current position. What will your specialty be after NP school? What kind of ICU are you in now?

Thanks for the advice regarding TSA. I guess I might just see how busy they are at the airports I'm using and go from there.
