Re: January IUI

  • @Cinnamonn i think I'm having the same test on Monday. My RE called it a saline tubal perfusion but google leads me to believe it's the same. Interested to hear how yours goes!

  • @brooklyngirl18 I turned the OPK positive today, so we will IUI tomorrow! nervous about how it will all go.....the clinic said it could be hours before we do IUI after my SO drops off his sample....the recommendation is IUI within 90mins of collection or pg rates decline significantly.

Does anyone know if it's ok to BD same day after IUI?

  • Lurking from TTC after 35...maybe I should join here too...

@PoeMasque I have my IUI next week and our RE's instructions specifically say to BD day of IUI and day after because when the woman orgasms the contractions help propel the sperm up your tubes. Hope this helps and wishing you luck with your IUI!!! Fingers and toes and everything crossed for you!
  • @PoeMasque good luck! My dr said a few hours is ok, for my iui a few days ago it was a little under 3 hours between when he gave the sampe and when I had the iui done. not ideal but it is what it is. the dr said the sample looked good so i guess the swimmers hold up better than we think. also my dr told us to bd the night of the iui and the night after.

I asked about progesterone, but he said he wanted to test my level in one week to see if clomid fixed it, so no suppositories yet.

  • So I posted my intro yesterday- jumping on the January IUI train... Its our first RE treatment which is exciting because I have some renewed hope after all the testing and learning we have low morphology and motility in addition to me being 42. I finished the Femara last night and will start OPK Monday.
  • I have a good recipe for the ladies out there trying the pineapple after ovulation thing. My pineapple isn't very sweet and the core is quite hard so I made a smoothie today. 5 ice cubes, 1 banana, 1 thick slice of pineapple and a vanilla greek yogurt. so good!!!

  • @Momifbysea welcome and fx this is your cycle!

@brooklyngirl18 thanks!!! I'm starting that today, a couple days late, and I'm going to copy your recipe :)

  • @brooklyngirl18 thanks for the recipe! I love pineapple, no prob there, but the core was like wood so I wasn't sure how to stomach that. I'll try it out!

Is anyone doing pomegranate juice? I can't remember where, but I read somewhere along one of my BSC TWW's when I couldn't put my phone down from fertility related searches that drinking pomegranate juice was good for boosting fertility. So I've been drinking it daily before this IUI just because I'll try pretty much anything, lol.
  • @bluejeanbabi05 thanks for the welcome and FX for you too! Let us know how your progesterone test comes back. I am planning to test mine too as it's the one thing my RE hasn't tested yet, but he had brought it up.

  • @Momifbysea i did pomegranate juice for several cycles. It's supposed to help with uterine lining, but I stopped because, let's be honest, women doing meth, coke, and heroin get pregnant, drinking juice isn't going to change anything. It was also expensive and loaded with sugar....the sugar is really what got me, no need to develop diabetes in this process! Haha

  • OK, Updated to include correct dates and also @pawcall and @Momifbysea - I am rooting for you!

Ladies, for myself, after my clomid BFN last cycle, I am feeling pretty hopeless. I mean, we're doing the IUI and I'm going to eat the pineapple and POAS - many, many, sticks - but I don't have the same enthusiasm. I dunno. I honestly think what's getting me through is seeing all of you and hoping that at least a few of us get BFPs! This has been a LONG journey, and I hope it ends for us all soon, but it helps to know that it will end very, very soon for some. :)

@lulu1180 - thanks for the tip! I tried, but could see my name and everything on the revision history, and was gun-shy. I am going to have to get my DH to test it before I post, but he is far too involved in a video game to do it right now. Gah.
  • Hey guys,
Been a while, just chiming in with an update. Had an ultrasound after 6 days of injectables... I have a couple of contenders (follies) this time. I'm hoping one of them dies off in the next day or two because my clinic is conservative and doesn't need like to see more than 2 or maybe 3.

@PoeMasque - sounds like a good IUI and count! Fingers crossed!

@funkykey Sorry to hear about the lack of hope. I totally understand... though oddly, I'm experiencing some hope this cycle after seeing more follies, and I'm usually an ultra Negative Nancy. Sigh... IF is such a rollercoaster. I hate letting my hopes get up, lest they be dashed to the ground in a few weeks... which statistically speaking, is the case with IUI. Also, looks like the IUI will indeed be on 1/27, so your guess was right!

Im considering the pineapple core, though I feel like I've already tried a gazillion of these lifestyle and diet changes and supplements and they haven't worked. I definitely find myself thinking about the countless crack addicts who get pregnant without even taking prenatal vitamins. Of course, then that tiny voice in me thinks, well what if these interventions matter for me, because my body is different? So who knows.

    8/17: FET #1.
    Thus far - 'unexplained'.
  • @funkykey that is exactly how I felt about our second IUI. I think part of it was that I really believed the first one would work. Hang in there, over 3 cycles of clomid/IUI the odds get better. I'm trying to remind myself that during this cycle too, i almost expect a BFN this time around haha.

  • @funkykey ((hugs)) I'm so sorry you're feeling hopeless. Hope is such a good and painful thing during this process. I don't expect a BFP but on the same hand I don't want to be pessimistic and invite negative energy in...*shrugs*

@notamyrtle fx those existing follies grow up perfectly and no others!

So question for those of you who have triggered in the past- how long does that trigger hcg stay? I'm still turning tests (although faint today) and I triggered last tuesday. It's annoying because I want to be able to for real test next week and trust the results.

  • @bluejeanbabi05 last cycle I think I tested at 8dpo to test out the trigger and it was negative. I think it's different for everyone though unfortunately.

  • @funkykey Don't feel that way, you don't have the right! A lot of girls get BFP after their 1st IUI , sometimes we need that little push. I had my progesterone test yesterday and it's at 18.6 which means I ovulated and don't need supplementation. So of course now my hopes are soaring now matter how hard I try to keep them realistic :/

  • @bluejeanbabi05 my Dr. did not test progesterone levels. I asked about it since my luteal phase is usually short, but he was hoping clomid would help extend my luteal phase.
  • edited January 2017
@amanda_1182 I honestly think it's extremely negligent that he didn't especially given your short LP. My office had me in on 5dpo to test and I have a normal LP. I would insist on it for the next or find a new doctor. I'm so sorry ((hugs))
