January IUI

Re: January IUI

  • @bluejeanbabi05 i go in Friday morning for progesterone. Eep!

@pawcall of my 3 IUIs only one gave me cramping after, but only very mild, I went to work after all of them with no issues. I did, however, have horrible O pain this last cycle, but that was the clomid, not the IUI.

@amanda_1182 i agree with pp. your Dr is basically assuming low progesterone instead of actually testing for it. I would question anyone who doesn't follow evidence based practice. Especially since cysts from clomid can bench you (which would be irritating if testing showed clomid actually isn't the answer for you). My OB was "confidant" I was ovulating, but never actually did the bloodwork to confirm, so we wasted months on unmedicated IUIs that we now know we're pointless because I wasn't actually ovulating a mature egg.

  • Thanks ladies. I'll demand testing next time. This was my first iui and I was so full of hope, even though my Dr. said I only had a 10-12% chance of conceiving from iui. Now that it didn't work, I'm devastated. This is only my FIRST iui....how do you keep going through this month after month???
  • @pawcall My IUI was very quick and easy.  I scheduled it for the middle of the day and rested at home afterwards but I could have gone back to work.

  • My IUI wasn't terrible. A little bit of cramping but nothing unbearable. I did take the rest of the day off work to relax though. Hopefully it helped!

  • @amanda_1182 the first failed IUI is definitely the hardest! Hang in there, success rates of IUI + clomid peak between 3 and 6 cycles, which means the more you do the better your chances at this point. :)

@pawcall my first IUI was on Tuesday and when the nurse said she was done I said "really? That was easy!" She compared it to a Pap smear but to me it wasn't as painful. I went back to work since I'm at a desk. Had mild cramping but very mild. Good luck to you!

@amanda_1182 I'm so sorry to hear about your IUI fail. My RE yesterday assured me that cumulative success rates go up after 3-4. He is willing to do 6 with me and I'm 42! But I think we will go to IVF after 2 IUI due to my age...hang in there, and I will pray next cycle is your BFP.

AFM, trying to stay distracted as it's only 3DPO for me since IUI #1. The nurse said to do a HPT 2 weeks after IUI. I typically have a long luteal phase (period pretty faithfully starts morning of day 17) so I wondered how that would affect test results but RE said Femara should standardize that length for me so we'll see.
  • Ahhhh! It's a go for my first IUI tomorrow morning!!!

@pawcall so exciting! How many follies do you have?

  • @PoeMasque I never heard iui rates peak between cycles 3-6. i desperately needed to hear this today. I'm 10dpo and a bfn this morning. I know it's early but i'm really feeling out.  It's my 2nd iui cycle and i was so hopeful ugh. the original plan was 3 iuis then ivf but my new insurance requries 6 iuis. i was super bummed at the thought of 6 but you just brightened my day, thank you :)

  • @amanda_1182, I'm so sorry.
@brooklyngirl18 - I am hoping your BFN is from a too-early test, am keeping FX for you and sending hugs your way!

Today is CD13 for me, and I'm getting paranoid because no positive OPK yet. Historically, I generally have positives on CD13, so the negative today really bummed me out. I'm going to go buy a couple of other tests at lunch and take them, and then call our clinic. The thought of missing another IUI for whatever reason seems unbearable to me; if for some reason we don't get to go, I might actually need to take a break, I feel so gutted. I'm doing everything that's recommended of me, and still it's not enough - my body keeps letting me down.

Anyway, here's an updated chart - FX for everyone who will be testing this weekend and next week!

  • @funkykey I hope you O very soon, hugs!

  • @pawcall that's perfect! Fx!

  • @amanda_1182 - I'm so sorry about the BFN.  I feel you though, I'm finding it hard to imagine how I'll get through month after month of this.  I feel like I've kind of deluded myself into thinking that it *has* to work because all of my testing is normal, so if we put the stuff where it belongs, we should be good to go.  Intellectually, I realize that's not the way it works, but I just desperately want it to be true, you know?

Does anyone know what the success rates of unmedicated IUI are?  I don't think there's anything to medicate, I'm ovulating just fine on my own, I have a nice thick lining, literally the only thing wrong that we've found are his weird-shaped sperm.

The doc I saw today told me that the IUI would be really easy, definitely easier than the STP.  She said that in her experience, women who had previously given birth barely even feel it.

AFM -I'm freaking out.  The timing on this is terrible.  My fiance and I are selling our houses and buying a new house and we have the inspection on one of the houses we're selling tomorrow morning.  That happens to be the house that's nearish to the hospital - so now I'm super stressing getting the sample there in time.

  • Hi All, my name is Lori and I'm new to the community! My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a little over two years. Three failed IUI. RE tells us all tests are completely normal. Have been on clomid on and off for a year. Just switched to famara. Just had my 4th IUI on 1/2017. Excited to lean on women going through the same thing. Thx!
  • Hi @lvandercrake (Lori) - welcome! When did you have your IUI? When will you know by? FX!
@pawcall - I hear you re: inconvenient timing. I know that's a weird thing to complain about, but you know, this whole T-TTC thing is awful and painful and sometimes I catch myself thinking: "at the very least, could it just not affect my schedule?"
I think the success rates depend on what underlying issues you have. We're unexplained, so all of this is a shot in the dark. I'm so tired of everything looking good and it turning out bad!

An update on our IUI: I spoke to the clinic after my second negative OPK, and am going in for bloodwork early tomorrow morning. Once they test me, they'll let me know if I've ovulated or not. The nurse said it is unlikely, and that sometimes clomid will affect a cycle's length. Her calm made me calm, so I'm feeling more optimistic than I was earlier. What a roller coaster!

    @lvandercrake welcome and fx!

@pawcall @funkykey amen on the bad timing. If this doesn't work it's ivf in March and a potential mid December due date for me :/  any due date is great of course, but DHs family does a series of huge holiday parties and the thought of passing a brand new LO around makes me itchy

    fx for good news @funkykey

IUI done. They said my lining looked great at 14, he had plenty of sperm (36 million) and based on yesterday's bloodwork they were confident i would be ovulating today.

I have to call to schedule progesterone bw for next week and my HPT date is 2/11.

@pawcall FX for a quick TWW! Always better when everything looks good from the outset :)

AFM - progesterone came back at 32, woot!! It was 7.9 without the clomid last cycle, so I'm feeling super hopeful that this is our answer and we can avoid IVF (cause, how awesome would it be to have that money for longer maternity leave?!). Trying not to be too hopefully and failing miserably. Haha.

@pawcall I'm glad your IUI went well! I didn't spot after my IUI but if your RE said it was fine I wouldn't stress too much about it. Maybe if you're still spotting Monday call them?

  • @lvandercrake welcome! I'm new here too and this month was my first IUI. Good luck! :)

@ZukiWife I know I'm new around here but have to say how excited I was to see your BFP!!! Wishing you smooth sailing ahead - that's just awesome news!
  • @bluejeanbabi05 i feel you on the long, yet short wait....I'm so afraid to test, yet so tired of waiting!!

@pawcall it really depends on what normal period bleeding looks like for you. I had a "friable" area on my cervix for one of my IUIs and spotted for 3 days after. If you are bleeding, as in changing a pad/tampon every few hours I would call your RE.

  • Bloodwork this morning came back with an LH surge, so we're going in tomorrow. I didn't have a positive OPK until this evening though.

@bluejeanbabi05 - right, the ol' birth month timing. Hadn't even thought of that - I was thinking on a much smaller scale. Like today, there were all these things I couldn't plan for because I wasn't sure if I was going to have to go to the clinic or not. A friend asked if I wanted to go to the gym or for a run, and I didn't want to make plans or have to take a phone call while I was with her.

    @ZukiWife - awesome news!!! Congratulations!!!!

@PoeMasque - I am really keeping my fingers crossed for you! FX!

@SugarHead - any news? Hoping you had good news, but if not, sending big hugs your way.

  • @funkykey  is your office able to do a mid cycle ultrasound and trigger ovulation based on that? It might be helpful for timing, especially given the problems of OPK test.

    **debbie downer post to follow***
I'm out this month. I didn't test, just waited for my period to start. It came right on schedule.  Pregnancy rates for IUI peak at 3-4cycle, with 95-98% of people who will become pregnant actually become pregnant. We're now past that point, but insurance requires us to do 6.  So my period on schedule was actually a relief because it brings us closer to finishing these IUI cycles. FX that these nothing funky on my baseline sono today and that I can start Clomid tonight for the last time!

  • @SugarHead just wanted to say sorry about this cycle but glad it's moving you closer to your next step and that you have a plan.

@funkykey thinking of you today and good luck! Also, I wanted to thank you for the spreadsheet that you do. It's so nice to see how everyone's doing and gives me some hope when I see those BFP's coming in!

AFM, trying to think of anything else for distraction until HPT on 2/7. Ugh...I'm not very patient.
  • @sugarhead I'm so sorry :(

@funkykey yeah, I learned fast that birth month timing doesn't work. I'm happy with any birth month now after 18 months of nothing. The thought of IVF has me actually really hopeful now and feeling like I did those first couple months when I thought I could actually plan things. Need to adjust expectations again.

I'm glad you get to go in tomorrow and that you can make short term plans now :)

  • Hello! I'm new to this board! DH and I have been married for 10 years, TTC for 8 years. We started seeing fertility specialist in June 2016. First IUI was 1/18 with femara, trigger, and progesterone suppositories. Beta is on 2/1. Feeling cautiously optimistic.
    IUI #1 (1/18/17) = BFN
    IUI #2 (Feb 2017) = TBD

    Dx = MFI, Low Progesterone
  • @lvandercrake - Welcome!  Sorry to hear it's been so rough, I'm on my first IUI but really, all of our testing is pretty good.  He just has some funky shaped boys - but our RE doesn't feel like that should be stopping us.  It's really frustrating - it would feel like it made more sense if there was something WRONG (not that I'd actually wish for that).

@funkykey - did you have your IUI today???  Thank you soooo much for the spreadsheet - it's really helpful (I'm a super visual person).

@SugarHead - I'm so sorry.  How many IUI's have you done now?  I hope your sono was good and you can move forward.

@megs4484 - Welcome!  I hope this IUI was just what you needed!  Keep us posted!

Me - I realize the ridiculousness of it, but I can't help but think of timing.  Like, if this IUI worked, it would be really wonderful timing for me work-wise.  I could transition my end of year project to someone else and come back and start fresh.  But obviously, I would take a BFP any way, any time I could get it.
