  • Thank you, @AdaByron I had a very important non dairy ice cream convo going in the last weekly random!!! LOL
  • My random is that my baby sister told me last night that she just got engaged.  The wedding will be this summer.  I have not told anyone that I am pregnant.  I don't want to steal her thunder - but I am not approved for travel to the Caribbean while pregnant. Luv zika.  I also would not want to travel with baby until 12 weeks or whenever the first round of shots are in and that's assuming baby is healthy etc.  How long should I wait to tell her that I'm pregnant to see if she can schedule around my availability (without stealing the limelight?)  I was originally planning to tell after my 20 week scan - but that would push the planning timeline to 3-4 months for a May wedding.  If I tell her now, the family focus shifts.  So, 1 week? 2 weeks?
  • @caribbeanmama That is tough!  I think I'd tell her right away before she gets too many wedding plans set in stone.  Can you just tell her without telling the rest of the fam so it won't shift the focus from her news just yet?  That's really considerate of you to let her have her moment.

  • @caribbeanmama I agree with PP.  The family focus won't shift if you only tell your sister.  And the earlier she knows, the better for wedding planning purposes.
  • @caribbeanmama agree with previous posters I would tell her privately, I would add in that I don't expect plans to be made around me but to keep in mind .....

Congrats to your baby sis! I would tell her privately and asap so that she can make a decision and start planning the wedding date. Ask her to keep it quiet, and if you think she can, you can wait to tell others...if she can't, just start telling immediate family.
  • @caribbeanmama I agree with everyone else. Tell just her for now so she can plan accordingly and she will still have the chance to have everyone excited for her alone for a bit.

TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • So I don't think I'm the only one that doesn't feel comfortable taking a hdbd shot. But I feel more uncomfortable with posting a picture of just myself and having that picture of just me on my phone. I took one a couple weeks ago and had to delete it bc I felt embarrassed. It makes me feel vain. However I've never thought that about anyone else except that person who made the random post of her belly.

@yellow1daisy I'm guilty of cleaning my bathroom up before taking my hdbd shot!

@morgarita It could be me, but I'm a little confused reading your post.  If I am understanding correctly, then I would say take the pics, even if you don't share them.  I took almost NO pics with DS and I regret it so much!! I wish I had some to look back at!  That's probably why I am participating before having a "real" bump...I'm so excited to see all the changes that I can't remember experiencing with DS.

    Edited for spelling
  • I wish I had started HDBD for myself at like 4 weeks! I don't really think I look very different yet, but I want to check!

@caribbeanmomma give her time to plan and options. That or I could tell my mom your knocked up and the whole world would know by end of day. I love that woman but lord have mercy.

@yellow1daisy my toddlers are currently throwing stuffed animals at each other and seeing how many toys they can drag out. I do a quick clean before DH gets home. No shame there
  • I haven't taken a blump pic in maybe 2 weeks? 3 weeks? I save them to my computer for the progression because I know I'll want them later.

  • shout out to all the messy master bathrooms!

I just want to lay on the couch and watch scandal. Is that really too much to ask? But everyone in the house came home in a shitstorm of moody. I miss wine....
  • I feel like my youngest dog is preparing me for toddlerhood. I have to say "Get out of there." or "Get down." or "Leave (insert thing here) alone." multiple times an hour.

Unfortunately, she's cute and she knows it.

Have you ever had to say "It's not nice to mess with people while they're peeing"? Cuz that happened in our house tonight.
  • LOL, no @AdaByron. But I do seem to utter "Don't pee on your sister" a lot to the older dog. (I swear I'm not a crazy dog lady.)

My overused phrase to my 80lbs pup is 'don't sit on your (dog) sister's head'. Like toddlers, labradors have no concept of personal space and for whatever reason he tries to sit on her every single night.
  • I went to the doctor this afternoon and after taking my weight the nurse said to me, "Don't be concerned that you're losing weight in the first trimester. That can be totally normal."

Uh thanks? I wasn't, pretty sure those pounds will pack back on over the next months once I stop puking...

I considered doing bump progression pics during my first pregnancy but I have no discipline. I have random photos from every stage and that was good enough for me. I do love looking at this one shot from the very end where my boobs are the same size as the bump. They grew like party balloons. It's scary. Ironically, I didn't have an amazing supply later.

Thanks for weighing in everyone!   <3<3<3    I've spent the whole day thinking about this and I think you are right - I should tell her soon.  @supermom83 I don't think she would keep it a secret from her fiancee and I wouldn't be okay with that - so I do have some hesitation there.  I think I need a day or two to get comfortable with the idea - as this was not my original plan.

@munchkinsmama I like the way you worded the whole "I don't expect plans to be made around me but..." - I do secretly expect her to work around my schedule but we will keep that quiet lol as I may have to let that go...

@OperaSingerMommy I honestly don't think I would have known to be 'considerate' if it weren't for reading all the posts on the bump about people having their moment stolen and how it hurt their feelings.  I'm so grateful for the broader perspective I've gained from this community.

@yellow1daisy I love the dark curls on your toddler!  And may I ask what cartoon is on your tv?

Edit: Bump stole some words - added a sentence.
  • @caribbeanmama thank you! She was born with a full lush head of hair and never lost it! I got so many comments about her hair as a newborn lol.

And I'm not sure what was on at that specific moment but it's always YouTube videos from either the channel super simple songs or littlebabybum. My daughter LOVES their videos and already has a good bit of those songs memorized which always surprises me considering she's only 17 months old!

  • So I asked my OB today how often inductions fail and end in a c section as opposed to labor that started on its own. She told me that the rate of failure is higher, because many times the women getting induced are so late because their pelvis is too small for the baby to engage. My son came out of the c section with a cone head and I only got to 4cm in 43 hours. I asked what would happen to the women and babies for whom labor would never start for? Would they die? She said yes. And that I am not a good candidate for a vbac, but could try if I wished. So, found that interesting. All these articles saying that c sections are bad because it passes on the small pelvis gene... guess I should just go die then. And my son shouldn't be alive either, according to them. Can't be passing on those bad genes
  • @CarsonsMommy I guess my mom and I would both die in childbirth too - I went 50 hrs before dd was c/s out and was a whopping 10 lbs 12 oz. I have small hips - is that the same as pelvis? Should I know that?
P..s. I did not have gestational diabetes.
  • edited January 2017
@satsumasandlemons holy cow lady, 50 hrs? You are a super hero! We're you stubborn like me and asked for more time? Man, that is a big, healthy baby! I wish more pelvic exams were done to assess size and likelihood of a vaginal birth being successful, but I am sure that that would increase CS percentiles as well. That would be bad, m'kay. (Mr. Mack voice from south park). And these mom's saying CS is the easy way out... as if. But you should feel better knowing that due to lack of exhaustion from a 50 hr labor, recovery should be alot better than your dd :)

ETA yes, I am pretty sure that the term small hips is the same as small pelvis, as doctors usually refer to it in layman's terms, but hips or more specifically illium, are not the same as the pelvic bone, though often referred to as the same thing.
