This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

@wabash15 Thanks for starting the thread. I don't really have a natural 'home' on the boards right now so it's nice to have a thread I can be active.
Diagnosis (If you've been): DOR
Cycle/CD: 10/ 12 - not really a true cycle since I'm on BC right now
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): waiting for IVF
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) I'm on bc in prep for my first IVF cycle
How are things going? I'm just waiting for the call from my nurse to let me know when I can stop bc and move on to stims. It should be coming soon because the main thing we were waiting on was my insurance approval and although there was a bit of a scare on Friday when they called to tell me that I didn't have treatment coverage - it's been worked out and I do, in fact, have coverage. That was a very stressful hour on Friday.
Any questions?
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? My dog leads a pretty terrific life so I might give that a try.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Patiently waiting. I finally got my appointment at my IF clinic for March 1 so there will be a lot of waiting around for now.
How are things going? Okay I guess. I read the reviews on my doctor and 90% of them are awful so I'm really worried.
Any questions? Not really. Probably closer to the appointment I will.
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? Probably a cat. My cats lives look pretty awesome - eat, sleep, play, get pets... come on. That would be awesome.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) This cycle was natural I guess you could say
How are things going? Meh. Just waiting on af to come so I can start my next medicated cycle but I just feel so blah about all this. I'm not even aureus I'm worried about having a baby any more? And I just have a feeling af isn't going to come this week.
Any questions?
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? Idk, as pp said maybe a dog.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) IVF #1!!
How are things going? Same as last week! Still really excited to get started. 12 more days until I start stims!
Any questions? I'm thinking of going public with my infertility. I would like to take a stab at going public with a relaxed post with some humor. Someone talk me out of this.
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? something lazy. a sloth maybe? Or like a bear so I could hibernate in the winter?

How are things going? Ok, weaning is going OK so far. I am trying hard not to get my hopes up too high for our IUI. we have been down this road before, by brain knows IUI does not equal KTFU, but my heart is screaming yay IUI=KTFU. I am so excited to start treatment, I just don't want to deal with the crash if it doesn't work. we are OOP and have already decided 3 medicated cycles is our limit...

@tamalahoops and @laurad75 I am so excited for you ladies gearing up for IVF. @Dilynne Have you checked different websites for reviews?? I've found that sometimes, one site has drastically different reviews from another one. Hopefully the doctor is a good fit for you.

@dilynne I just tell myself that unhappy people are the loudest and post the most reviews. Everyone's experience is different, so hopefully yours is at least okay and you get KU so fast it doesn't even matter.
@tamalahoops I think it's admirable if you decide to go public! I always like to see if someone is vocal about their struggle on social media because it's just a reminder that you aren't alone. But, I'm sure it can open up a lot of questions etc that may be tough so it's not an easy decision.
@wabash15 That's my fear of trying IUI/other treatments/etc... the hope itself is terrifying. Just remember you've always got us to lean on if you need it!
@tamalahoops I'm glad I went "Facebook public" with our struggles. To be fair, we'd already been very open with friends and family for many months beforehand. I have regretted the latter because it meant that people were REALLY invested in my treatment and always wanted to know what we were doing and if my latest IUI worked--which was really hard when I was an emotional wreck when they didn't work. That's kind of died down now that we're on our own for a couple months. I don't think I'll tell anyone beyond my mom when we start IUIs again. So just be prepared for that and be forthright about what you want to talk about and how often you want to talk about it.
As for being Facebook public, I did that in December after I saw one too many posts about babies on my feed and I lost it. I am SO GLAD I did, though. I did not have a funny post--I actually shared a link about a potential law to require IVF coverage in NYS and talked about how hard the past 18 months had been. I had people I had no idea struggled with IF weighing in and talking about their struggles--including one person I'd unfollowed because she's on her third child. It made a huge difference in how I perceived some of the posts on my feed. And to my great relief, no one has pestered us about where we are in our treatment.
TL;DR To me, it's been worth it to be public, with some caveats.
@laurad75 Does your clinic do IVF in groups or does everyone just start individually when they're ready? I'm jealous if that's how yours does it, we have to wait for the March group because February is full Exciting that you're starting soon!! Whew for insurance!
tamalahoops Sad that you have to do IVF but yay for starting soon! And I'm laughing at your bear and sloth comments haha
Diagnosis (If you've been): Various and sundry things. PCOS, endo, low morphology, who knows
Cycle/CD: 19/4, 2nd cycle trying after being benched 6 months for surgeries
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) IUI! It's my first! @wabash15 I'm with you on the certainty that IUI = KTFU because I'm a speshul snowflake who's going to get KU on the first try. If this doesn't work, I'm signed up for the March IVF group and I would prefer to not do IVF. I'm terrified of getting OHSS since I have some of the risk factors (PCOS, under 30). Also, the money of course. IVF is covered under insurance, but we have a high out of pocket so it's still going to be well over $6k.
How are things going? I start Femara tonight and am triggering on the 17th. I'm happy because as long as everything looks good at my ultrasound that day and I can actually trigger, it means I'll ovulate sooner than normal and not have to wait as long as a regular cycle. And I love our doctor which is really nice.
Any questions? Is LP affected by the IUI drugs? Shortened, lengthened? Side effects of Femara?
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be?
Ooooo I have two I'm torn between. Dolphins because they're the sh!t, play all day and actually HIO for the fun of it, and a hawk/eagle, because flying.
Also, my mom made me watch an episode of Outdpaughtered last night, which is a show about quintuplets (FIVE DAUGHTERS) conceived from an IUI. They did injections, not femara/clomid, but now I'm a bit terrified. I'd be thrilled with twins but more than that...scary!
edited because for some reason TB is turning one of my comments above into link. Still can't figure out how to fix
@bluejeanbabi05 I've heard the ovidrel trigger is supposed to guarantee a 14 day LP, but anecdotally that only happened my first IUI. My last two were back to my regular 12-13 day LPs. I had no issues on letrozole (femara), but I also had no issues on clomid so take that as you will. Know also that your doctor probably has a threshold for number of mature follicles that they're not willing to exceed for the IUI. Mine wouldn't do it with more than 4 because of the risk of high-order multiples. It's not a bad idea to have your own threshold depending on your risk tolerance and/or willingness to do a selective reduction if it comes to that. I'd think quintuplets resulting from IUI is pretty rare. :-)
@bluejeanbabi05 Femera should not affect your LP. That should remain the same unless they put you on progesterone. if your on progesterone then likely AF won't show until you stop. I didn't have any side effects from femera but I think some ladies get headaches or moodiness. my understanding is typically there are less side effects with famera than with clomid.

@wabash15 Good to know, thanks! What is the progesterone supposed to do? Help chances of implantation? I was on it 2 months ago after a surgery to make sure I got AF on time, and she actually came 3 days before I was scheduled to stop the progesterone
@bluejeanbabi05 I had a short LP before doing IUIs and when medicated my LP was, at its longest, 18 days. Its hard to say if it was the letrozole or the ovidrel or just that I was finally ovulating. Good luck with your first IUI! Very exciting!
@Bababatty Great insight! All of our close friends and family know whats going on. I designated my sister as the news getter, and she passes along any bad news and keeps people at bay. Its actually very helpful, she always knows whats going on and sends a group text that is like "Leave Hoops alone, she had a rough week, No news is bad news," and for the most part my family has been AH-maaaazing. But I'd like to talk more openly as a society about IVF and infertility as a whole, and not just after success as it seems so many people do. I think it would be helpful for people to see the real life, ugly, nitty gritty that is infertility.

@bluejeanbabi05 progesterone is the hormone that supports pregnancy. Some ladies don't produce enough to support a pregnancy so some docs will supplement. That being said the literature is inconclusive on weather supplementation truely helps. (but it does not hurt). I know some women still get AF on progesterone supplementation. If its needed its often started at 3dpo or when a BFP is first gotten.

@tamalahoops - I am actually really public about my IF. It's been really nice, actually. Sure, I get some stupid comments, but I've made close friends that I never would have if it weren't for me being open about it. I do have some "rules" tough that I adhere to. I never tell anyone where I am in a cycle or when I expect a positive test. I am always very vague on timing when people ask what our "next step" is because I know I wouldn't do well with the crash and on top of the let down having to tell people repeatedly that it failed. My version of being "public" is the periodic repost of IF-related articles, an obligatory post during loss month and having an open link to my blog (also in siggy, if anyone cares to see). That's kind of it for Facebook. IRL though, I don't shy away. If people ask if I have kids, I don't awkwardly move away. I just say the truth. Or if we are talking about our plans for the week and I have an IVF consult or something, I say it. I simply don't leave my IF out of my conversations. I don't bring it up super often, unless it's pertinent, but I also don't shy away. I think it took some people off guard being so open, but most don't even blink at it anymore. Or, even better, they ask questions and become more educated.

@Dilynne Are the reviews about the personality of the dr? Because truly that doesn't matter, what matters is how good he/she are at doing their job. I have known some FANTASTIC drs that are, personally, terrible people.
Diagnosis (If you've been): PCOS

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): ? Starting BCP for a FET cycle

GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be?
@laurad75 I am so rooting for you with your IVF! It must be a whole host of emotions you're feeling for this month. @Dilynne I didn't like my RE the first time I met him, but the second time I went and I felt much more comfortable. Just remember that negative experiences are shared way more often than positive ones! Does your insurance offer an alternative just in case? @tamalahoops Yay you and @laurad75 are IVF cycle buddies! I am so rooting for both of you!! Xoxo @wabash15 Fx for you on your last cycle before IUI! @linzrunz I think I missed your update last cycle, how did you first month of progesterone go? Mine helped dramatically! I had to stop taking it to get my period so my LP ended up being 14 days. @bluejeanbabi05 Good luck on your first IUI!!! Fingers crossed for you!! @KristoKekerooni Good luck today with all of your tests!
Wow so many of us are starting or about to start first cycles of IUI or IVF! I'm so excited for everyone and I am praying so hard for every one of you to get your well deserved BFPs this month!! COME ON UTES!
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Month 2 of progesterone after O. I'm also going to go back to acupuncture this month. We are still deciding how many months we want to give progesterone a go before moving on to plan B, which is Clomid. I think giving it at least 3 months of progesterone is where we're both at right now.
How are things going? Pretty good. I'm trying to rein in the emotional roller coaster this month. I know I'm still in WTO to talk to me during the TWW and we'll see where my head is at. However, I refuse to test this month until at least 14DPO. I'm not letting the damn progesterone F&*^ with me again this month!
Any questions?
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? Hmm...probably some sort of bird that can fly long distances with great stride. I'd love to see the world from that point of view.
@TravelingCouple Well... that's the issue. I'm in Canada and this is the only clinic in my province. Apparently if you want to switch doctors within the clinic, you get put back on the waiting list and even then they can't guarantee that doctor won't be the name that pops up when I get to the top of the list again.

Ahh, I see. Well if he's the main game around, that might be why there are so many reviews. Hopefully the negative reviews were for specific reasons and you have a good experience!
@laurad75 I will be starting BC when my February period starts, to prepare for IVF. I am nervous, hopeful, scared, and excited all at once!
@tamalahoops Yay! So exciting! I look forward to following your IVF journey, as mine starts next month!
@Bababatty Thank you for your insight about sharing on Facebook. DH and I have been discussing if we should go "public" beyond the few people that know right now.
@KristoKekerooni Thank you also for your insight about being public (Facebook and in person) about the TTC journey (especially infertility). I especially like your suggestion of not telling people about timing, since I know it would make it worse for me to have to tell a bunch of people about bad news.

Howdy, ladies!! I hope you don't mind me jumping in here to ask a question. We are on cycle 8, and almost all of these I had 3-4 days of spotting before AF. I had a normal u/s last month, but because the spotting is still happening, I have an endometrial biopsy scheduled for Thursday and CD3 bloodwork next cycle. Does anyone have experience with the biopsy? I'm trying not to freak myself out, but imagining them putting a clamp with teeth on my cervic has me, well, freaked. I'm supposed to take 600mg of ibuprofen an hour before the procedure, but because it's right around O day, I'm hesitant to take that. I'll likely take Tylenol instead.
Thank you!! I'm hoping the best for each and every one of you!
Me: 31 DH: 32 Dating since: 11/17/2001 Married: 9/26/2009 TTC: June 2016
@bertiemeetsgertie I have not had an endometrial biopsy but I have had them need to put a clamp on my cervix twice with IUI. I'm not going to lie, it sucks and numbing spray does not really help, but once the clamp was off I was a little sore and crampy for a few hours then fine. @BertieMeetsGertie I had the biopsy done on 12/22. It was CD 8 or 9 for me and nowhere near O so I took the ibuprofen and felt that was a good choice. The procedure was painful - mostly like sharp cramping - but mine was quick. I had it done at the same time as my HSG and they were similar to me pain-wise. If i recall, you haven't had a HSG so that comparison won't help but at least I can say it's not too terrible. Good luck! Hope yours goes well and is relatively painless!
@tamalahoops I'm not Facebook public but I don't hide IF from people for the most part. Family and friends all know, acquaintances don't. I waffled about whether to be open about it since I'm generally very private, but I'm happy with my decision to be fairly open. I don't tell people exact treatment plans or where I am with them. And, I think because I'm normally private, it hasn't been a problem. No one has pried at all.
@wabash15 I sincerely hope IUI does = KTFU for you! I thought I'd be a special snowflake with my first dose of Letrozole, and of course that wasn't true. Now, since I haven't ovulated in all the months we've been trying, I am very dangerously thinking "Well, if I just ovulate, I'll be KTFU for sure." If I do ever ovulate and don't get pregnant, it's going to be a sad, sad day with lots of wine, chocolate, and tears.
@bluejeanbabi05 I had night sweats one night I was on femara, but that's all. Is this your first medicated cycle? Do you plan on doing injectables at all before moving onto IVF? I ask because I also have PCOS. Femara didn't work for me and like you I am at a high risk for OHSS (under 30, very high AMH, PCOS) and also multiples. I'm not sure if we'll do injectables or move straight on to IVF.
@virginiaham The first failed cycle hit me hard too! Besides the month I was diagnosed, I feel like it was the toughest month for me. I'm sorry to hear yours wasn't a success either. Best of luck with your second round! IF sucks!
Diagnosis (If you've been): PCOS
Cycle/CD: month 11/cycle 3/CD 38
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): cancelled cycle due to no response
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Nothing - cancelled cycle after no response to Letrozole. Waiting for next cycle to try Clomid.
How are things going? I'm feeling very impatient.
Any questions? No.
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? Probably some kind of big cat, like a lion or a tiger. They're so majestic.
Diagnosis (If you've been): Still testing, likely going to be PCOS. Follow up with RE on 2/1.
Cycle/CD: 6/27
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO, hoping I'm going to ovulate.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) still waiting to discuss plans/treatment with RE, so we continue with a natural cycle.
How are things going? Starting to get anxious and impatient, but that's just because I'm hoping to O on my own accord and I keep getting fakeouts and false surges (looking at you CBAD and your blinking smiley). Otherwise, doing pretty good with Whole 30 with week 1 and can already tell a difference.
Any questions? No.
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? Probably my dog. His life rocks.
@tamalahoops I went public on FB this fall about TW* our miscarriage and that really helped me. I learned about so many others who had experienced trouble and it made me feel less alone. I am quite open about our issues with my family and friends and so far they've all been great. No one has been intrusive or requesting frequent updates.
@wabash15@laeberge3 thanks, ladies!! I was talking to my H about it (he's in medicine), and he told me that they don't always use the clamp. I think he just told me that to make me feel better. i just hope this gives me some answers!

@laeberge3 I'm so sorry you have to be here. For me, getting a diagnosis was freeing and actually made me feel better knowing there was a reason and an action plan moving forward.
@madspunk ((hugs)) for failed cycle. To answer your question, if this IUI doesn't work I'm going directly on BCP in prep for March IVF. My RE isn't enthused about our IUI chances and the only reason we're doing one is that the Feb IVF group is already full. Part of me wonders if I should wait longer and do more medicated cycles before IVF, but
1) it's been 19 cycles already 2) this is a bit pragmatic but IVF is covered after our out of pocket max of $6k- as is delivering a baby (I confirmed w insurance that delivery will be very expensive with how our plan is set up). I want to be able to do both in one year so our expenses are limited to 6k and not 12k. Obviously IVF has no guarantees but at least I can say I tried to limit our money spent. And 3) it's my REs advice.
I go back and forth justifying these reasons to myself, hence the long explanation.
All of my fingers crossed for you ladies starting IVF this cycle. @tamalahoops H is much more open than me, so, against my better judgment almost all of our family and friends know about our IF struggles. It's been a rather eye opening experience for me because it's very much out of my comfort zone. Odds are slim that I would ever be comfortable enough sharing the details of our journey with the masses. That being said, I regularly search out blogs and stories of other women's IF journeys, so I certainly find it valuable.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We have our first RE appointment on Weds, so hopefully we'll be getting some sort of direction here shortly.
How are things going? Fine.
Any questions? No.
GTKY: if you could be reincarnated as an animal what would it be? I have to agree with others, I'd probably want to come back as a dog. My dogs have the life!
I'm sorry there are so many of us who find ourselves here, but I love how active this thread is and all the camaraderie, support and information. You ladies are amazing!

@BertieMeetsGertie I've had 3 endometrial biopsies This last year. I recommend the ibuprofen. I will say one was a little more painful than the others but not my much. It's a tad bit more uncomfortable than a pap. I don't remember them using a clamp with a claw though at any of them. FX that it goes smoothly!
Diagnosis (If you've been): DOR, MFI, Factor V
Cycle/CD: cycle 16 or 17? , CD 15
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW, 3dpo
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) no treatment this cycle; pnvs, baby aspirin, coq10, probiotic, vitamin d, melatonin, continuing my dairy/gluten free/low carb diet with exercise.
How are things going? Good! Time is really flying - February will be here before I know it. Of course I'm hoping to be the SS that gets KU'd right before I am set to start IVF but also trying to remain realistic and not get my hopes up too much
Any questions?

@tamalahoops I think it's admirable if you decide to go public! I always like to see if someone is vocal about their struggle on social media because it's just a reminder that you aren't alone. But, I'm sure it can open up a lot of questions etc that may be tough so it's not an easy decision.
@wabash15 That's my fear of trying IUI/other treatments/etc... the hope itself is terrifying. Just remember you've always got us to lean on if you need it!
TL;DR To me, it's been worth it to be public, with some caveats.
tamalahoops Sad that you have to do IVF but yay for starting soon! And I'm laughing at your bear and sloth comments haha
Dilynne FX your doctor ends up being good!!
@hartmich Hope is so terrifying. It's one of the worst parts of all of this. And the cynicism that creeps in.

1) it's been 19 cycles already
2) this is a bit pragmatic but IVF is covered after our out of pocket max of $6k- as is delivering a baby (I confirmed w insurance that delivery will be very expensive with how our plan is set up). I want to be able to do both in one year so our expenses are limited to 6k and not 12k. Obviously IVF has no guarantees but at least I can say I tried to limit our money spent. And
3) it's my REs advice.
I go back and forth justifying these reasons to myself, hence the long explanation.
