@jlellis603 I thought the same thing the other week and my doctor told me to drink a cold, sugary drink. Then lay on your left side and turn everything off (no TV, etc.). They said you should feel 4 movements in 30 minutes. If not, give them a call. So maybe try that?

  • @jlellis603 Have you done a kick count? Drank some OJ and just sat and counted? My MW says to call in if you don't get 6 movements in a 2 hour kick count. But also that is a ballpark, and that you should call in if things seem abnormal for your babe; if you can usually get to 6 movements in 20 minutes, then the 6 movements in 2 hours is still a marked decrease and should call in for it.

I think it's one of those things it can't hurt to call in for. If nothing is wrong, then you've wasted a few hours of your time and got that confirmation that everything is a-okay. Worth it in my books.
  • Thanks everyone! Yeah I tried some OJ and a soda and laud down for a while. I've also been just lounging watching tv for a few hours. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow afternoon if things still feel off - I usually feel the most movement at work at my desk. But I didn't know about the whole babies are sleeping more closer to our due dates so I'll keep that in mind too
  • @jlellis603 I literally came to ask the same question! She was a wild thing last night and today barely anything (but I was moving around most of the day). Hopefully both of our babes get moving here soon!

Hopefully they start up again soon! Maybe a nice 5 day work week at the office will help
  • @jlellis603, did that still not get any movement?   I would call.   If you are not getting anything from kick counts,  I would be calling and going in for monitoring.

  • @jlellis603 I would call them now. They can give you instructions on what to do or either have you come in. I will say the one time I had to go in, I had spent a good chunk of the day doing chores so that's probably why I didn't feel it (she's been VERY active ever since then). It never hurts to have them check though if nothing else for the peace of mind.

  • You guys think I should call? I feel a little movement every once in a while but nothing compared to what I normally feel. Do you all think that I'll be okay until the morning? I live 50 mins from the hospital but I work 10 mins from the hospital
  • @jlellis603 you haven't really said if you've done a kick count. Lay down with the sole purpose of counting movements. I often find that it seems like he hasn't been moving much, but when I really pay attention there's much more going on than I thought. If you try a legit kick count and don't get the requisite amount of movement, call.
  • @jlellis603 the sound of the TV might be lulling baby to sleep.  Ice water gets my kid going like clockwork, even better than fruit juice, so maybe try something frozen and sugary, like a popsicle?  What happens if you poke your belly a bit?  Also, sometimes they have quieter days, especially when they're going through a growth spurt.  If you've laid down in a quiet place for a long while and had something cold/sweet, and you're still not feeling movements, I'd call.  They may give you more specific instructions for timing movements, etc. before asking you to follow up and/or come in.
  • My midwife said to call if there is decreased movement. She said the same as others... drink a glass of ice water or OJ and lay on your side. If you don't feel 10 movements within an hour, to call. Better to be safe than sorry this far along. Good luck @jlellis603

  • I hope that babe starts jumping around in there so you can stop worrying @jlellis603! I think I'm paranoid about this too; the past two days my baby has just had longer quiet stretches of time than usual, but then moves around again. But I agree, if you've got any doubt, better to get checked right away.

  • +1 to LO being very quiet the last few days or so. She's normally wiggling around in there like crazy a few times a day but lately I only feel her if I eat/drink something very cold, sweet or spicy. I know at this point they don't have much room to move but it's still worrisome.

I remember with DS, starting at 34 weeks, we would go in weekly at the case room for decreased fetal movement. I'm a big worry wart.
