  • @KirstinH88 Thanks for your response! They haven't given me a new due date just noted that I would most likely deliver earlier.  I go in for another U/S tomorrow and I'll mention this all - see what their opinion is.   Thanks!

  • @aboxofchocolates I just signed up for a weekend childbirth class at my hospital, and they recommend completing the course by 37 weeks. The one I signed up for is March 3rd/4th, so I will be between 35 and 36 weeks when I take it. So I am taking it on the later side, but still within the recommended time frame.

I also signed up for a newborn care class, an infant CPR class, and a breastfeeding class, all in February....I am basically taking anything relevant since I know nothing :#

  • @super_sam03 If you're at all worried, ask them to check cervical length with the internal ultrasound. Twins do tend to come earlier but I don't think "dropping" is a sign of that. Are these your first babies?
  • @thecavfamily That made me laugh! I have had this conversation too. We are having a second girl but, she seems so much lower than I carried my first.
  • I was telling someone the other day that my hips hurt and just have general discomfort way sooner this time and they said I must be having a boy. Nope, it's a girl and you knew this...

At this morning's US, they said everything looks right on schedule - I didn't "drop."  The boys are just growing and moving around.  They are my first.   :)
Great! I had twin boys first as well. Some women will go all the way to term, but as a caution which I'm sure you're aware of, most of our prenatal class (for multiples, mostly first babies) had their babies at least a little early.
  • @lovelongdog06 Since my first, I have done a lot of research too. We didn't have the extra cash to go "fancy" that time around so, I had the boba wrap. I enjoyed wearing her and had to when she was cluster feeding or I would have gone insane. This baby, I'm dead set on a woven in order to wrap longer. With a toddler, I will need two hands as much as possible. I've heard great things about didymos too! I'm starting to think, the pricer brands are worth the money.

  • I **think** it's most commonly the start of the 28th week.

I am just full of questions lately.  Little background from my last appointment....my BP has been a pretty steady 115/60.  I was just feeling a little weird at work and had the medical staff check my BP and it was 144/70 and my heart rate was 97. I'm not too terribly concerned about it except the top number is quite a bit higher than normal.  Should I at least call the dr and let them know? or just let it ride for a while

    ETA: 26 weeks 5 days.

  • I would be more concerned if your bottom number was higher. Did you have a salty snack or meal or get stressed over anything before hand? I would limit salt, drink some water,  rest and check it again in a few hours if possible.  When is your next appointment.. if it's soon I'd just wait and mention it then (unless it happens again or goes up) but if it's not for a few weeks I would call they may want to have it checked to keep an eye on it.

  • That's sounds like a good plan. Keep us updated on your numbers when you check it again.. hopefully it was just an "off" day.. but I would keep an eye to make sure it doesn't get any higher.. if your numbers spike at all I would call, even if it's after hours.

  • @Nolegirl1185 yikes! Sorry that you have dealt with that from the beginning, it sounds sucky for sure. I'm going to keep checking over the weekend and definitely call on Monday.

    Thank you guys!
  • Just checked it again and I'm up to 154/80   :#
  • @Taylor72 I'm sorry--concerning things always happen on the weekend, don't they? I don't know much about blood pressure but it seems ok still from what I do know. Let us know what they say on Monday.
  • Random question here, and apologies in advance if this has already been answered elsewhere...does anyone have experience with cats and babies? We have 4 indoor cats, 3 of whom are very friendly and cuddly and sleep with us most nights (our bed is crowded lol). Because of this, we are not doing a co-sleeper, as I am sure the cats will walk into it from the bed. Instead, we are going to be putting the crib in our room so it is nearby, but not accessible from the bed. However, I am still worried about how to prevent them from going into the crib. We set up the crib yesterday, and so far I have been spraying them with water when they try to jump into the crib (which has only happened once). My current plan is to basically spray them any time they try to go into the crib over the next few months, and hopefully they will learn to stay away from it. Does anyone have any other ideas/suggestions/general advice for cat parents? TIA!

  • @kitkat8387 When DS was born we did something similar...we didn't want to co-sleep (mostly because DH sleeps like the dead and wasn't comfortable with it), but we wanted baby in the room with us while I was still on maternity leave at least. We have a family bassinet that my grandpa built, so we had that in our room close to the bed. Before DS was born, our cat would get in it (she didn't bother with the crib, but she was old and probably didn't have the muscle strength to get up into it anyway) and sleep, and we always just shooed her out. Once DS was here and sleeping in the bassinet, she seemed to realize that it was HIS bed and we never saw her in it again. My SIL's cat was the same way - super interested in all of the baby stuff UNTIL the baby was using it, and then he couldn't care less. I think that, with a lot of cats, whenever there's something new in their environment they're going to want to check it out, but once they see that it "belongs" to someone else, they leave it alone.

  • @kitkat8387  I don't have any advice, but we have 3 indoor cats so I can sympathize and would love to hear anyone else's advice as well!  We will be putting a bassinet in our room for the beginning and that is where I worry.  We have a crib in the nursery and keep the door closed, but not sure exactly when we will be moving the baby into there. I like the idea of putting the bassinet in the room now and spraying when they get near.  That is how we got them to stop going on the table!

  • @kitkat8387 and @Nolegirl1185 a good friend of mine had the same problem. Are your cats declawed? Her cats were on the front but not the back paws so she filled her sons crib with balloons and they would pop them when they jumped in. Scared them enough times that they eventually stopped getting into it at all.
  • Okay- another laundry question... which seems ridiculous.

Do all of you stms dry the baby clothes? Not sure if i should just go off of thr instructions on the tag, or just hang dry it all?
  • @SDSwenson I dried in a dryer.  :) TBH, I only washed baby's clothes separate from ours with a special detergent one time. After that, they all got washed together with regular detergent. DS had no complications/rashes. I'll prob do much of the same this go around.

  • @SDSwenson I also used the dryer for everything...the only thing I was ever told was not to use dryer sheets. I already have sensitive skin issues (eczema), so DH and I switched to a "free and clear" detergent ages ago, and we just continued to use that with DS and he had no issues.

  • @taylor72 that's a great idea! They aren't declawed, so they would definitely pop the balloons if they tried jumping on them. I might give that a shot in addition to the water bottle. @Nolegirl1185 our situation is similar, once we move the baby into the nursery we'll just keep the door closed but we definitely can't keep our bedroom door closed unless we want to listen to screaming cats all night lol. The water bottle worked to keep them off the kitchen counters so I'm hoping it has a similar effect here.

@SDSwensonI also dried everything..Just didn't use the sheets.

@kitkat8387 we are worried about this this time around too.. when we had DD my husband's cat stayed in a different room.. now that we moved his cat spends a lot of time in our room. I have read (but not tried yet) putting aluminum foil in the crib scares them when they jump in and will stop them from doing it.. They also make cover things that go over the crib to stop cats from jumping in.

@Taylor72 is there an after hours number you can call to ask a doctor or nurse? The bottom number is still below 90 so as far as I remember (it's been a few years) that's a good sign. But it's concerning it is going up.. I'd keep an eye on it at very least if you plan to wait til tomorrow please take it easy, limit sodium, drink some water and find something comforting to keep you destressed.. and of course update us

  • My DH is on the volunteer fire department so we went to the station and had the paramedic check my BP a little over an hour ago.  144/90...I'm getting concerned that the bottom number keeps going up. He told me if I wasn't going to go get checked out today I needed to lay down the rest of the day and make sure to drink plenty of water and call first thing in the morning.
  • Take it easy @Taylor72!  Are you going to go in or just rest today?

  • @taylor72 I would wait until tomorrow as long as you don't feel any cramping or back pain. Of course any bleeding would be worrisome too. You are correct that the ER really isn't the best place to figure out what is going on unless it gets super scary. The OB would be able to tell you more. I hope it is nothing serious. I would certainly call the OB in the morning though.
  • What is the reasoning behind not using dryer sheets on baby clothes? I use free & clear detergent and dryer sheets.

The dryer sheets can break down the flame retardant in the baby clothes.

Personally, I don't use dryer sheets anyway because they're super wasteful and I've never felt like they made a difference in the softness of my clothes.
