Re: Questions - January Edition

  • I  getting a new pump (insurance pays) and spare parts (I pay).  My old one has been in storage for 2 years so it will be my backup but not sure what condition it's in.  For peds we use a large practice that has weekend hours and guarantees same-day spots for sick kids.  We only see our "assigned" ped for scheduled well-child visits but that's fine with me, anyone can help diagnose an ear infection.

  • My question...anyone else experience this?

I was woken up by some very strong stomach cramps multiple times in the night. By 4am I could fall back asleep and it was happening every 5-6 minutes. I was pretty sure they weren't contractions or BH based on everything I'd read, but they were quite painful and would happen either at the bottom of my bump, the top right under the rib cage, or a mixture of both and last for 45 seconds or so. This went on for an hour...stopped for 20 minutes...started back up again...stopped...and then moved to very quick sharp pains. So I called our LD Department and they told me to come in just to be sure. I called DH (who is out of town for work all week) and I couldn't talk through the pains (they were only about 10 seconds at this point though). Again, I assumed it was not contractions but something just didn't seem right. So I headed down to the hospital and then the pains were just gone. I felt ridiculous showing up and not having had any pains for about 45 mins at this point. They monitored me and nothing is going on. No contractions. Nada. Which is great news. But now I'm left wondering what the heck happened and why. Any insight?

  • @wagnerw

They could be gas pains.  I had a severe cramp at the bottom of my left rib cage that lasted for about 3 hours the other day.  Baby was kicking and moving around so I knew he was okay.  I finally just went to sleep and felt better the next day.

@wagnerw not sure what's going on with you but I did have something very similar around this time with DD. To me it actually does some like contractions...Everyone feels them differently, but the coming and going is what makes me say that. It's scary to be sure but you did all the right things. For me, I had nothing else after my incident and carried to term (well, a few days shy of 40 weeks). I would just try to really rest and hydrate if you can today.

  • @wagnerw whoa. Sorry you had a scary experience. Maybe it was your uterus getting ahead of itself and having a crazy random bout of BH. Glad you were able to get checked out. Hope you're like @cafedisco where it doesn't happen again.
  •  @shaunessa I thought about that and wonder if that's what it was.

@cafedisco @HGRich  Thanks ladies.  Hope you are all correct :)

  • @chelle087 I called last week.  It sounds like I can get mine anytime now, so I'm asking my doc tomorrow for a script so I can get the ball rolling sooner than later.  This presidential stuff is messing me up... I don't want to lose my free pump, but I do want the 6 weeks of paid maternity leave!

  • @pammasu0909 I called my insurance company today and they told me how I need to go about getting my pump. I did ask about the likelihood of pump coverage disappearing under my plan due to what is going on with the ACA and was told that since my plan runs for the calendar year that there would most likely be no change before the baby is born...we will see.
  • I woke up this morning with a 2 inch bruise on my left breast! WTH. I dont remember hitting it! Anyone heard of this? Idk if it can be a duct issue or what
  • @SDSwenson Not sure if exactly the same, but a month or so ago I developed what looked like a long skinny bruise along one of the veins in my right breast (I'm fair-skinned so it's very visible).  There's no change in the skin texture so I was fairly sure it wasn't a stretch mark. OB looked at it and said it was probably the blood vessel dilating and was normal.  It still looks like a bruise a month later though...

  • am I blind or are the Thursday and Friday ticker changes not up? I like to check in on people and haven't seen them for a few days.
  • @Taylor72 I don't think we have very many participants on Thursday and Friday usually gets up towards the end of the day. I'm saturday, so IDK, but I know what you mean, I like to read them too. :)

  • @rachelmiller03 I've seen them in 2 non-baby store places.  CVS (closer than the handicap spots!) and an outlet mall.

  • I normally start this post once a month but this thead is 6 pages. Do we want to keep doing a monthly one? Or should I change it to weekly with a Sunday start?

  • @Taylor72 I think as we are coming to the end, there are a ton more questions. I don't mind keeping it weekly or monthly though. I'm on here every day because I have no life. hahahahah!!!

  • UO: I think reserved parking spots other than those required by law (handicapped) are sort of silly. Anyone can park in a spot that's allegedly reserved for expectant mothers or low emission vehicles. That being said, I have a Prius and take advantage of the low emission spots when they are there. I also live in a city where there aren't many parking lots anyway.

  • @catem07 It is true that anyone can park there. But, as a pregnant lady with such bad SPD that walking across a large parking lot will literally leave me sore for hours, especially if it is snowy or rainy, I appreciate when businesses offer.
With DD1 there were a few places that had them, a couple of grocery stores, the mall (which was a life saver), and actually a movie theater. Since we have moved to a different (and actually much more family friendly city ?) I have only seen one at Babies R Us.

  • I've only ever seen them here at one grocery store. They're a "nice to have" but not an issue I'm going to fight for or complain about. If a store wants to offer, I won't criticize them.

  • @wagnerw  I'm glad you went in to get checked, as it is always better to be safe and I'm super glad it wasn't anything wrong.  It sounds like gas pains to me and the only reason I say that is because this happened to me about a month ago. It just didn't last as long as yours, maybe an hour and a half total.  They made me out of breath and seriously scared my hubby.  I knew it wasn't labor or BH, but it was sooooo uncomfortable!
