Sitting in a house that is 80 degrees, and I'm wrapped in a fleece blanket and fuzzy jacket&socks. Why? Because I'm apparently freezing. Its time to pump, and I'm scared to let the girls out because my nips are too sensitive already.

So we were at thanksgiving dinner, telling my uncle how we finally got everything for the baby and just need to set some stuff up. Like the crib. Then DH turns and looks at me "Did we get a crib mattress?". Oh, uhhhh, nope. We did not get a crib mattress! Lol, luckily we have a bassinet and won't 'need' a mattress today. But seriously, who does that? Me. Yup.
DD, who is 6, has been begging us for a haircut lately. We finally gave in and took her today. I wanted to cry afterwards, as she looks so much older now. Then it really hit me that come Friday, she won't be my only "outside" kiddo anymore. Cue the waterworks and the nonstop worry now of if she'll still feel loved and included when Michael gets here. I know that we will include her, but it still doesn't keep me from having those feelings. Before and after pic below just to show off my cutie! Excuse her expressions, she likes to make goofy faces in pictures. For some reason they uploaded backwords.
Dumb question...how do you grocery shop with baby? I'd prefer to leave her in the car seat, and know it needs to go inside the cart/not on top, but where do you put all the groceries? DH and I got a few things last week and it was okay, but I really need to stock up today, and DH can't go with me to push a second cart.
@cgss11 I always loved to wear baby while shopping! frees up your hands and you can walk away from the cart with no worries. bonus: keeps people from touching baby!!
@cgss11 I've heard that using a baby carrier like the Ergo or Tula is the way to go.
These are the types of questions I have too, like how do I get my hair done? How do I go to the dentist? How do I walk my dogs and push a stroller at the same time?
I have a wrap, but she sleeps so good in the car seat I hate to take her in and out to wear her!
True! Here's another thing I saw someone do once: she had the car seat in the cart, and then used what room she could around the seat, but also used a bag on her shoulder to fill up with stuff. Still might not be able to get a ton of stuff that way, but it's maybe worth a shot!
I'm with @Toller it's hard to see over a car seat and they usually end up crying ... and I usually have a toddler in the cart seat anyway... so ringsling or ergo.
@cgss11 I usually get the cart with the carseat holder, although I definitely agree with @maamawaabangi its hard to see over the carseat. Wearing is a great option if you don't have to worry about waking the baby up.
Yah, your whole life maneuvers a bit in how you do things. Grocery shopping, we used to put the car seat in the cart and just get what we can. But we do most of our shopping at Costco and their carts are pretty roomy. I see myself wearing this baby more since I actually got a sling I like instead of the evil baby bjorn that kills my back. Hair? I go twice a year on a weekend, so DH can hang with the kids. Dentist? Luckily my mom retired last year, and I drop my kids off with her. Before then, I made evening appointments so that DH could be home in time. We have, unfortunately, never used a real babysitter. It's always been just family. And they aren't always available. I would recommend finding a good, reliable babysitter that you can use when needed.
@PensiveCrayon I've seen some mamas do that... I think it would just depend on how much you need to get. That might be a good plan for your first trip. Note... I have always felt like the first post birth with baby shopping trip is something akin to a trek to Mt Everest... it's scary and hard... even after 6 kids I'm dreading it (or maybe all the more with 7 kids)!!! I might hire a baby sitter... not even joking.
I ended up putting the baby (in car seat) in the big part of the cart, then put a basket in the top part. Small stuff went in there and big stuff I just put around the car seat. It filled up fast though! I think wearing baby will be the way to go (well actually leaving baby home with daddy haha), but this will work for now and I'll just have to carefully edit my lists.
Since for the last month or so it's become difficult to walk the entire grocery store for a big shopping we have been doing Shoprite from Home. It's $4.95 and they do the shopping and we just pick it up. The only downside is I don't always love the produce they pick. We will probably continue this for big shopping trips for a while after baby is born.
I would like to give myself a pat on the back for not peeing on myself since giving birth. I've sneezed, coughed, laughed...my pants remain dry. Not even a close call. It's really the little things...

I do the same thing with Kroger in the Midwest. Totally worth it!
@dmontgo I'm proud of you! I pissed myself for a good five seconds before i could get my pants down today. Post partum pissings: three. Pissings while pregnant: zero.
I hope to wear much more when LO is born, because the problem I had with the carseat in the cart was that you could get a good amount of stuff around the carseat...UNTIL you have it in bags. The bags just never fit the same way, and I end up having to stuff it all under the cart and its a pain to get back out...sigh.
On a completely different, random tangent...I know I am late to the party with this but I cannot stop watching Stranger Things. And it gives me nightmares. I am having to end the night with HGTV because last night I had totally effed up dreams.
My husband watched the first few episodes of Stranger Things but couldn't hang for fear of dreams! I loved it, but I have effed up dreams on a regular so I just rolled with it.
I watched the first few episodes of Stranger Things, but knew that it would get me all crazy and hyped up. And I can't handle it right now! So I'm re-reading books, way less stressful
We narrowed down our name lists to 5 boys, 5 girls (team green, will choose when we see the baby)....but two of the girls names we didn't choose middles for. Probably our 2 least favorites, so it shouldn't worry me much.
....but I mean....who needs sleep if you can stay awake overthinking things like this? haha

I'm glad we aren't the only ones who are having trouble deciding. We think we know first name for a boy (maybe), but the girl name isn't clicking and we are still open to about 3 names. Middles are not really decided, but we have options.
I think it's pretty common to not know the baby's name until very late in the game. I feel like girl names are really hard for some reason. Ours didn't have a name until many, many hours after her birth. Before heading to the hospital, we had it narrowed down to 5 options with 7 different middle names, and eventually it was the lactation consultant who helped me decide between the final two. (Don't tell my husband that... haha)
Most threads I've commented on for the past two weeks have been filled with complaining. So I am going to post something positive randoms because today I have a lot to be thankful for.
1. A month ago I found out my maternity leave would be entirely unpaid. Say what?! (My previous two were six weeks paid, six weeks unpaid and we had expected the same this time.) Well today I found out that HR messed up my vacation time this year so I now have three weeks of paid vacation coming to me in a check this week. Such a huge blessing to have at least half the income I was expecting coming my way.
2. My in laws arrived today. Most people would dread that but mine are saints. They're here to help us out until probably the end of next week. I'll have my membranes stripped tomorrow so I either go into labor or am induced this Friday. They drove the 7 hour trip today so I don't have to take DD and DS to my appt tomorrow and be here to do whatever we need for the first week or so after the birth. I am so very thankful.
