As a FTM interviewing pediatricians for my baby today made me feel like I had crossed a whole new threshold of adulthood. Everything went well, though. My biggest disappointment with the experience was that I didn't come away with a clear favorite - I liked both practices for different reasons and because I went without DH it has to essentially come down to my decision. It all comes down to whether I prefer a mom and pop type practice or a practice that is an extension of Childrens'.
I ordered my Breast Pump today (medela) through my insurance and then accessories (bottles and such) through FSA! It feels so good to get $400 worth of "free" stuff after paying so much for baby stuff and paying a ridiculous amount for insurance.

@Austenista don't stress!! We switched peds 3x before we found one we loved ( took 9/ 10 months). It's kind of a learn as you go process- and once you actually use them,you could find what you want changes too

I am just going with my general practitioner, as she is a family doctor and sees kids and adults. I met with her after getting my BFP to ask some questions/get a possible OB referral (she used to be an OB), and she said that they would gladly accept the baby as a new patient after they're born.

@kacie209 I interviewed with two pediatric practices yesterday, and they simply said I need to call and set up an appointment after the birth and that they'd like to see the baby within 2-3 days (after you come home from the hospital). I asked when I needed to communicate to them and that's all they needed. However, my hospital/OB wants to know who I'm using asap, they said I needed to let them know between my 34-36th weeks. The pediatrician's office/doctors I'm ultimately going with looks in on baby and mom while they're still in the hospital (really close in vicinity to each other, obviously).
In your case, I would say, just communicate with them and see how much notice they require and how quickly they want to do that first appointment with baby.
***One of the offices informed me yesterday that you need to notify your insurance/enroll your baby as soon as possible and to not let 30 days roll by. I was assuming the insurance would be notified at the birth with the charges and every sort of thing that goes down with that. They will want a social security number to formally enroll, but she said to start communicating with them as quickly as you possibly can because you can incur non-coverage issues when it comes to first appointments that are a headache to work through/pay for out of pocket. This was something I didn't know and wouldn't have thought about at all, so I'm so glad she warned me.
From now until rest of the work day, they have the "bring your kids around for Halloween candy" event. I love seeing the costumes, but now I feel like I can't slack off on a Friday since people will be walking by my desk, ha.

We just closed on our house! I'm caught between being so pumped that the buying process is over, and being so anxious about owning such a crazy house. Going to try to allow myself one evening of just being pumped before we start prepping the house tomorrow.

Just realized my belly button is dark brown, and now I can't stop looking at it. Also, it's still an innie and I wonder if it will ever "pop". I know some people's don't. (Late night random thoughts haha)

@phoenix870509 Bubba tries the same thing all the time, but through the right. Don't these kids understand they're supposed to live in he middle! I always tell her him A) he's not allowed to come out yet and that's not the exit. Sometimes I wonder about this kid's intelligence.

DH and I were talking about Christmas and getting new stockings for the whole family. Suddenly he asked, "Do we get stockings that say Mom and Dad now?"
It was such a strange realization for me that I will be called Mom, not my name. I'm not sure I'm ready for such a huge identity shift. It's so strange and honestly... scary. Whoa.

I legitimately had this same thought yesterday and it freaked me out a little bit!
Ours have our names on them too, not 'mom' and 'dad'. Funny about that though, DH and I still called each other our real names until DD2 was 1. DD2 started calling me 'Becky' instead of 'mom', and she stuck with it for about 6 months! So DH and I started addressing each other as 'mom' and 'dad' when she was around. She also started yelling at us during that time- whenever we tried to kiss each other, DD2 would push us apart and yell! So while not every kid will do these weird things, you just never know what fun memories will be had. Thats my random.
I'm just now catching up with this thread after my weekend of doom, and all I can think is WTF, you girls don't wanna see my freakin' mucus plug?! Some friends you are. Hrrummph.
We bought our first set of super nice, embroidered stockings before DD1 was born (DH gets SUPER excited about this kind of stuff), and we went ahead and jumped into Mama and Daddy at that point. It's still weird sometimes getting called Mama and Mommy. But you also get used to referring to yourself as that in third person (e.g., "No, mama is not going to take you to swing at 10pm"), so that sort of helps you dive in. One funny thing that I love is that DD has picked up on my nagging voice when I'm trying to get DH's attention and I draw out his name (Tiiiiiiiiim!). Now she does this periodically when she's trying to get his attention. He hates it, and I think it's the most hilarious thing ever. Last night when he was sick, she kept saying, "You okay, Tim?" - all super proud of herself. It was my one spark of entertainment in an otherwise miserable weekend.
ETA: How the hell did I miss that Weird Cravings troll last week?! I've been waiting like 7.5 months for it to get crazy up in here, and I miss our one pathetic little troll?! Damn you Bump Gods for closing the thread before I could contribute an appropriately snarky gif! And good work to those of you who did! <Please excuse my uninhibited profanity. The baby makes me do it.>
I keep wondering what will happen if my water breaks while I'm in the shower and I don't notice. Then, I proceeded to dream that I was paddleboarding (huh?) and my water broke and I didn't know. Brain, you make no sense!
There are so many gadgets for noise for an infant and I totally get them wanting noise considering all of the rumbling I hear my belly doing and keep imagining what poor little guy is hearing. What if they made a machine that made gurgling tummy noises to help soothe them? That would be so interesting/weird.

I totally thought about this the other day when I was listening to the white noise machine that we just got. My little dude is usually pretty still during the morning when I'm at work lecturing to my students about economics, so how funny would that be if I just recorded my lectures and had him listen to that as he slept? Maybe supply and demand puts him to sleep? The thought makes me laugh - the poor kid has to hear the same lecture 5 times a day every day.

@sourlemon I had told DH I'd humor him just this once and make the belly into the Death Star this year. Yesterday, since we weren't going anywhere, I told him I decided not to....the look on his face. Omg. I did not think he'd be so disappointed....guess what I'm doing today? *sigh*
@dmontgo - my "moment" this week was at our labor and delivery class yesterday. We took a tour of the hospital and when i saw the babies in the nursery I was like "omg I'm going to take one of those HOME with me".
@sourlemon@yellingbanana Thank you for letting me know it's ok to have our names on stockings. We talked about it and we feel more comfortable right now keeping our names on them. Besides, we have unique names!
I feel like I'm walking this line between not wanting to be consumed by the Momma identity but also wanting to be a great mom. Does that make sense? I don't want to lose "me." I don't care so much about nights out and whatever, but I mean just adult things I am interested. As his appearance gets closer, I gotta admit--- I'm freaking out. I feel like in some ways, I'm kicking and screaming. Yet, I'm so excited to meet him! We can't have it all, I suppose.

My water has only broken once prior to labor and another 2x during labor and a nurse broke the other... everytime I knew it broke with out question! It was actually very startling and felt like a balloon popping or some similar sensation. You will know it! Maybe unless it's a slow leak.
I ordered a stocking for Scarlett, but we're keeping our stockings as they are with our names. Mostly because I'm too cheap to replace perfectly good ones lol.
@dmontgo So with you there. My family is all "good luck ever doing anything fun for yourself for the next 18 years". Sorry, but I don't plan on abdoning my own identity entirely to become mom and only mom. FI and i have discussed this and we think it's important that our kids see us do things for ourselves and have hobbies. We can still have lives. We can still enjoy the things we've always enjoyed doing, it may just take a little more planning. Having grandma spend a day with her grandson so we can go climbing for an afternoon in no way makes us bad parents. In fact, I think maintaining our identities keeps us healthy and makes us that much better parents.
