Am I the only chicken who hasn't had cold lunch meat? Jimmy Johns sounds amazeballs but I haven't given in so far.
I haven't either. I've barely had lunch meat at all. I bought some once and then realized it had nitrates in it after the fact, freaked myself out, and haven't had any since.
I didnt really eat it that much beforehand though.
@WinchesterGirl I haven't had cold lunch meat either! I'm kind of a paranoid person so I've been avoiding cold subs. At Jimmy Johns and Subway, I've been getting veggie subs and getting everything on them I would normally eat except the meat lol.
I told my DH the first thing I want after birth is a turkey sub from our local deli shop! I can't wait! Lol
Last pregnancy, my midwife and my OB were both pregnant which was really funny. They told a story that they had a Christmas party, and the OB was loading up on the deli meat and the midwife was horrified. So there are definitely conflicting opinions
@WinchesterGirl I have tried to avoid all lunch meat but I can't kick my Jimmy John's cravings. I usually bring the sandwich home and microwave the meat portion for some of my own piece of mind
@imalwaysme79 It seems to vary from person to person. I never had a flu shot before this one and it didn't really hurt. Just felt some pressure. My arm was sore later that day and the next, but that was it. Hubby got his a few days ago and said he didn't feel the shot at all, but he did have some soreness later that day. SO maybe you'll be like him and not feel anything!
I applaud those who can fight Jimmy Johns cravings. I have in several months ago. I avoid lunch meat from the deli counter at the grocery store just because the deli is my first stop and it could sit out an hour before I'm done shopping. I also avoid it from grab and go spots too. But deli meat from a restaurant? No problem!
I got my flu shot this morning and my arm hurts so bad
I felt like death on day 2. I hope you don't get that
I get this vaccine every year and it's different every time. Sometimes I get alllll the side effects and sometimes none at all. Hopefully it's just localized pain that will pass in the next 2 days. I've felt like crap all week so I don't want to feel like death. Ugh.
Eta: good luck with your glucose test!

Cold lunch meat smells like ass to me still, so I've luckily avoided that one. If it is what I were craving though, I would allow myself at least one a week.
I haven't eaten lunch meat, unpasteurized cheese, or dippy eggs since I found out I was pregnant. I get the risk is really low but I also know I'd never forgive myself if something did happen. Sometimes it really sucks (mostly the eggs) but it's a pretty small price to pay for 9 months to give me peace of mind on at least that issue. I feel like it helps me too because there is a lot that can go wrong that I can't control but I can at least control this so I do.

Almost exactly 6 hours after I got my shot yesterday I got a fever and chills, felt achey. Full disclosure, I've been battling a cough/cold for a week now, the nurse said my viral symptoms would probably flair up. I took a Tylenol and my H let me go to bed at 5PM. I woke up at 9, had an apple for dinner, and went back to sleep. I still feel icky today, achey and sore, but at least not feverish.
First time I've gotten a flu shot too. Our girls are getting them soon and I feel so bad.

@marriedhamstermom i didnt eat runny yolk eggs at the start but there was a nhs (uk health service) release a few months back saying it was safe so ive had a few since.
I eat runny eggs every weekend. I'd die without my weekend over easy eggs, doc said it was fine, so I'm not really worried about it. I also eat the occasional lunch meat and medium steak. I do avoid the prohibited cheeses though.
I like my eggs either scrambled or hard boiled. I don't eat a lot of lunch meat but I love Jimmy John's. They delivered to my office until a couple months ago >:( I was craving a sub one day and it was really hot so I didn't want to go outside, went online to place my order and they don't deliver to me anymore. The store is 5 minutes away and on the same road. Now I'm really mad at them!
I said f*ck it and had sushi about a month ago. My doc said it was fine if I was going to a high quality place, and it was soooo worth it! Also having an occasional small glass of wine.
My dr is anti-lunchmeat but my deal with myself is I hold off until I have the GD dx. Since any and all protein is so important to keep my sugars under control, that's my excuse. That said, I was dx at 11w this pregnancy so I've been eating alllll the lunchmeats.
I'm a project engineer, which has been my best-suited job ever, but 90% travel. My project from Dec 5- maternity leave is going to be back-filling a site engineer near home.... awesome, because no travel. AND I've been dogeared for this to be my permanent new position. The job I have now 100% isn't gonna work, but this is a less awesome boss, much less fulfilling, trapped with the same petty problems all the time instead of consulting and moving on, and a 30 minute commute instead of working from home. My resume would read like a demotion. Plus, my husband and I need to coordinate our job changes. He's hunting now, and hopefully will find a new job in 2017. His jobs are harder to find, and me able to work anywhere helps him immensely. If I tie myself down, I'm trapping him in a tiny job market. GAAAHH. I don't want to change jobs, but I can't stay with this one. I have a good option to switch to, but it's not a good option.
Sorry, long whiny rant. I feel like we have an oncoming train wreck coming in February and I don't know what to do. I'm just gonna write myself an IOU for a long island iced tea or 3.
I don't ever have cold deli meat, but I haven't had any raw sushi which is kind of my equivalent avoidance. I usually have it quite frequently. From my research it's safe to have from reputable places, but it makes H really uncomfortable so I'm kind of humoring him. To his credit, he's not having it either. I did have some lightly seared tuna tacos when I was very hungry during a wedding cocktail hour. The alternative was probably fainting.
Cheese I don't worry about. They're usually pasteurized and I prefer hard anyway. If there's feta or mozzarella in something, though, I still have it. And I already fessed up to raw eggs in UO.
About once a week or so I have a "mini beer," or basically a shot glass full of something exciting H is drinking. We recently obtained (really are about to obtain-a friend got us a bottle and texted us a picture) a bottle of a really rare IPA that will be much better if drank fresh than if kept until February (Big Hapi for any Boston area people that saw it on the news) so that may be my one full drink of the pregnancy. I definitely don't blame anyone who indulges more frequently though. I think a glass a week with food and water is totally fine, just not the way I ended up going.
Every week I send my FIL and MIL a bump photo and occassionally an update on my Pregnancy, since they live halfway across the country. I just found out one of my Employees (I'm an OM) who has the same name as my MIL has been getting the updates instead of MIL and was just too embarrassed to say anything.
Fortunately, the messages started after I announced at work and I didn't say anything terrible or confidential, so mostly I just think it's hilarious.
I think this one is a twofer: hat-tip to LC and a good reflection about how many Americans are probably feeling today:
Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohen (co-written by Sharon Robinson) Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows that the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich That's how it goes Everybody knows Everybody knows that the boat is leaking Everybody knows the captain lied Everybody got this broken feeling Like their father or their dog just died Everybody talking to their pockets Everybody wants a box of chocolates And a long stem rose Everybody knows
So the housing market in my area is really low right now, and I found a house like 5 minutes away from where I currently live. This house is perfect, too. It's move-in ready, in an established neighborhood, 3 beds 2.5 baths, 2,500sq feet, and an in ground pool all for 110k. I am so in love with it and ready to call the real estate agent and DH says he doesn't know if he wants to buy a house yet and then doesn't explain any further than that. What tf is he waiting for??
@LivingLaVidaGinger is that his normal response to major decisions? That sounds exactly like what my husband did I've started asking about timelines when he seems disinterested like that. Sometimes he has a way later timeline in mind than I do, and we toss it back and forth until we agree. With our first house, he seemed to have 0 interest. I wanted "last month" and he thought "a year or so". Once we agreed "we're going to buy in the next 3-6 months" he had a goal and focused on it.
I finally found a photographer for maternity and newborn pictures!! I know she does good work because 2 of my friends have worked with her and their pictures look great. And she's not super expensive and she actually gives you the pictures! lol I talked to one lady that was expensive on her shoot fee and then charged by the print and then deleted everything after. No thank you!
Plus, I'm thinking of doing the maternity shoot at the park where H and I got married. As long as it doesn't look too dead this time of year. We got married end of September and it was so beautiful.
