  • I had a slow leak but knew it. Maybe if it happened while swimming I wouldn't know right away but your bump noticeably decreases (even though the fluid replenishes) so you'd know something has changed.

  • @sourlemon that turned out awesome! You're crafty! :) I'm super lazy, I printed out iron-ons of the death star and tie fighters. DH was pumped, regardless of my lack of effort.

  • Since it's now officially November - I won't feel bad if he's early.  Obviously I want to get to at least 37 weeks, but now that seems so close!  I've built up in my head that he's going to be early, I'm not sure what I'll do if he's late haha.

  • Re: Water breaking - Mine broke just after I had fallen asleep and woke me up. Of course the first thing I did was go into the bathroom to see whether I had peed myself, but contractions started within 5 minutes. SO there was no doubt there.

Last night was a really rough night for dreaming  :( DH woke me up in the middle of the night and said he had a dream that I got pushed and started gushing blood, and we were rushing to the ER to try to save the baby. After we woke for good, he said he also had a dream that we took the wrong baby home, and apparently I was pretty lackadaisical about calling the hospital to get the situation fixed. After he told me about his ER dream in the middle of the night, I had a terribly realistic dream that I went to the ER and they said I was going to start my period at any time now. I told them I was pregnant, and they said "not anymore" and discharged me. I saw in my paperwork that they said the baby had no heartbeat, even though they didn't do an ultrasound. I feel like I spent a significant portion of the dream just mourning, and when I woke up from it, I insisted on wiggling around for a prolonged period until I could get DD2 to kick me and prove her existence. UGH terrible way to start the morning.

  • @LinziLoo09 ugh, I'm sorry you guys had such a rough night. Those dreams like that always suck, and tend to shake you up. Hopefully your day gets better, and you have a night filled with awesome dreams tonight.
  • @LinziLoo09 what a rough night

  • ^ that is amazing! I am so happy they are doing this for you, even in the face of such a crappy situation. What great news!

  • Wow @Mamax2 that's such great news! I'm so glad they're going to continue taking care of you guys.

I've also been plagued by weird dreams, and my DH also woke me up from a dead sleep last night. He just shot straight up in bed. No warning, just bam! He had told me earlier last night he was having dreams again of me dying in childbirth (his worst fear). So I asked if he had another bad dream. His response? Wouldn't you like to know. Seriously dude? He, of course, remembers nothing.

  • @Toller Thank you for that reassurance! When is the age that people leave children with babysitters? I'm not in a rush to leave him anywhere, I just have no idea when it's typical to start. I held a baby for the first time in 10 years a few weeks ago-- I'm a bit out of the loop lol.
  • I don't really know if there is an "age" for babysitters. I think it has to do with what you're comfortable with. Our parents have been so eager to spend time with DD that between them and her godparents we have yet to actually hire a babysitter to watch her. That said, I think it takes time to find someone you trust. I know I was super nervous leaving DD at daycare since they were the first non-related caregivers for her, but they've been awesome.

  • Yeah @Mamax2 that's amazing news, you don't always have companies like that around these days.

Babysitting, we had my mom of my MIL watch our baby from about 3 months. But an actual stranger babysitter, well, we have never had one. A couple of times a friend's daughter babysat for us, DDs were 2 years and 7 years old. DH is not comfortable with strangers taking care of our kids. My mom is my regular babysitter. But we also take the kids with us on a lot of adventures. We go out to eat like once a week and take the kids. It's good to get used to taking them places, but keep a date night at least once a month.
We had a date night a couple of weeks ago, and once the kids were out of the house at my moms, we ended up just staying in and getting food delivered. Sad, I know. But we were both tired and wanted to be in pjs.

I had another weird dream too. DS was pushing so hard he poked a hole through my stomach and his hand was sticking out :( we were leaving to go to the hospital when we noticed we had water leaking into our house in about 6 different places. So DH was trying to fix them while I'm sitting in the car. I finally had to yell that I was calling 911 if he didn't take me in right away! Your child's hand is sticking out of my body!!!

  • We had family babysit very occasionally around 6 months (for dinner here or there), but starting around 2 years old we started using our daycare lady's daughter. Would have started earlier- just didn't think of it.

  • With DD1, my mom (dad and grandma) stole my child when she was about 3 weeks old so DH and I could go out to dinner for his first father's day. they sent pictures and a text every 30 or 45 minutes and we were literally 10 minutes down the street. we were gone for about 2 hours total and it was glorious!

now my mom watches dd1 every Sunday for a few hours...mainly because she can and dd1 likes playing at grandmas house. DH and I use that time to go grocery shopping, browse target, and do cleaning at home that is hard to do while DD is there (like picking up her room and hiding toys).

When dd2 is born the plan isn't changing for dd1. I'm not sure when we will leave dd2 though. part of it depends if I'm breastfeeding or not. but I'd imagine my mom will steal both children before too long.

But, my mom and I have a great relationship, she does things mostly my way with dd, doesn't play that "back in my day" game to go against my wishes, provides a safe environment... the list could keep going. I've also had my best friend watch dd1 a few times but she was closer to 2 before that happened.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • My mom still lived with her mom when I was born, but even after she moved out I spent a very Thursday with my grandma. She'd pick me up from school. I'd usually spend the night in the summers. And now she and I are super close. My mom has asked for the same. She wants Thursday's. Not sure at what age we'll start, but probably in the first few months for at least a couple hours here and there.
  • L hit daycare at 2 weeks old. It was really hard, but I think it has helped him be so happy when around new people.

For over night stays I think we made it to 9 months before we had one. I had conferences and H had work, so my parents got him for several days.

So far it has worked out fairly well for us.

Apparently grunting at work when moving from a sitting to standing, or standing to sitting position is frowned upon.
You should do a fake "oh my god!!! My water broke!". Then maybe grunts won't seem like a big deal.

  • I have been able to keep the grunts at work to a minimum, but I keep getting teased because literally any time I stand up I have to go to the bathroom before I can go do anything. But I make jokes about myself with "wide load" coming through our very small hallway (small office, trying to make the awkwardness of pregnancy fun). I make TONS of grunts at home in hopes that DH will get the hint that I am uncomfortable or need help...I swear this man is clueless.
  • Thank goodness for those privacy screens  on desks. I've taken to sitting on the edge of my seat with my knees wide, since sitting back seems to be putting too much pressure on my belly. Not the most lady like position. Also, sometimes I just say screw it and put my feet up on my extra chair. I'm past the point of caring too much.

Yes!  Most days I have my feet up on my shirt filing cabinet (and have been doing this since mid-summer). If it means I can keep the swelling down in my legs & feet it's totally worth it!
  • Apparently my restless legs don't stop after I've fallen asleep. Guess I need to trim my toe nails because FI has scratch marks all over his legs. He says I've been kicking him all night in my sleep. Sweet guy just didn't complain cause he says it's not my fault and didn't want me to feel bad. How does that much flailing not wake me up all night? Makes no sense but he can handle some scratches if it means I get my sleep.  :p
  • I try to look semi professional most days of the week and wear jeans twice a week. My boss doesn't like how other people in the office wear jeans daily, but doesn't call any attention to it. My professional dress has turned into tunic shirts with LLR leggings or longer maternity shirts with thick yoga pants that have normal leg seems instead of the athletic looking kind. I try to add some accessories so that I look kind of put together.
  • I have to dress up for work equivalent to men wearing full suits. luckily maternity dress pants are as comfy as pajamas! but I did buy all black slip on sneakers about a month ago and have worn them since.  no man has said anything... occasionally a woman has though....
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • I've reverted to leggings at work (and pretty much everywhere else too) for the rest of this pregnancy. Even my maternity pants are getting uncomfortable. I usually wear them with a dress and cardigan to look more put together.
  • So I was checking out at rite aid and was
getting Pepcid for my husband and the checker said, "You know you can't take that!" (Ok, miss busy body!!)
I said, "I'm not sure about that, but it's not for me..."
Then she said, "I had heart burn so bad during my pregnancy that I had to eat raw potatoes." (Ok, now you're just scaring me)
Me, "Oh? Did that help you???" :o
Her, "Oh yeah... it totally helped and it was about all I could eat." (Hum! Still not going to try it!)

    Wha????  Is that a thing?
    I was totally baffled.

Due December 27th with baby #7

  • @maamawaabangi I'm voting she's nuts! I've actually heard eating raw potatoes isn't really safe in general. So take that Rite Aid lady.
