Signs of Labor, Anyone?

Re: Signs of Labor, Anyone?

  • Huh I don't think I'm feeling any BH or anything. Anterior placenta here, not sure if that matters. A less related question - having no signs of labor to date, would anyone go on a weekend road trip at 36 wks? I wouldn't if I knew labor could but you like bam but feeling all quiet here

Are you going somewhere with access to a hospital? Will DH be with you? If so, and if you'd be comfortable in the car for however long you'll be in it, sure! I'd probably throw my hospital bag in the car and be sure there was a place I could send hubby to buy a car seat if needed, but otherwise, I'd have no qualms traveling a small distance with my husband - road trips will be much less relaxing from this point out!

I would definitely consider it - I'm 36 weeks today and would be fine going somewhere this weekend as long as it wasn't ridiculously far away or out in the middle of no where
  • Baby has dropped quite a bit. I swear, if he drops anymore he is going to fall out. Some period like cramping and back ache. But nothing else.

  • @MaMaBear1323 my mom said the same thing to me. That she dropped a lot and having increased pain in my tailbone and pubic bone now. Cramping is basically my life right now.
  • I get a lot of cramps and sharp pains very low in my labia area. As a FTM I have no idea what to expect. If I stay still I feel ok, but the moment I get up a lot of pressure happens and it's not unbearable, but noticeable. I'd say overall I'm at a pain level 3-4. I'm getting induced Sunday, I'm sure my cervix is rock solid, as I have no idea if I've lost my mucus plug and I have no bloody show. It's gonna be a long induction I suspect.

  • God, I hope this isn't it for me tonight... My son was sick yesterday with a flu bug he picked up at daycare. Well tonight at 6 p.m. I threw up and had diarrhoea... good times. Now I'm having contractions that have been 8 mins apart for the past hour. I can't imagine anything worse than having diarrhoea and vomiting while in active labour. I hope these contractions go away.

If it's any consolation, I had the flu earlier this week as well.   NOT FUN!  From a quick search on the internet about late pregnancy and the flu, apparently your body won't generally go into labour during a flu as you need ALL the energy and healthiness you have for labour.   I did have a few contractions during the flu though.   Anyway, hope this is true for you.

  • The nurses at our birthing class said eat a whole pineapple. Your mouth will be on fire, but there is an enzyme that triggers labor and your cervix to dialate. She said multiple ladies have done it and it works every time.
  • @kvruns I am an hour away from where I plan to deliver, but that's because it's the hospital where I work, which means no copays, etc. It's also where I've been getting my prenatal care, as I'm already there and don't have to take full days off of work. However, we live very close to another hospital that would be fine for delivery if it came down to it, and we'll pass a few more on the way to my preferred hospital, so I'm not worried.
  • I'm 20 minutes or so from our hospital. It's the only hospital in a 30+ mile radius so we're stuck going to it no matter what. If I lived near my mom it would take me over an hour to get to the hospital. My cousin actually gave birth in an ambulance because she couldn't make it in time.
  • I had a membrane sweep at my 39th week appt. on Tuesday. Wednesday I passed my mucus plug/ bloody show. It was a big bloody glob. Thursday I began to get irregular contractions starting at noon. By 11pm Thursday night I was having consistent contractions but when I went in, they said my contractions were irregular and I was only dilated by 2cms and that I was in very early labor. They sent me home.

For the last 12 hours I have been having contractions every 5 minutes but they only want to admit me when I am not able to walk or talk through my contractions. But these contractions that are coming now every 5 minutes are kicking my ass.

I am having back pain contractions along with the lower tummy. Every time I get them, I cringe and yell out. Any 2nd time moms been through a similar labor? any advice to deal with the pain? I haven't been able to sleep cause they come every 5mins.

Hopefully I go into active labor soon :(
  • My advice would be don't wait too long to go in! You never know how quickly you could progress as a second time mom and you don't want a side of the road baby!! good luck!

I get nasty 5 min apart contractions in early labour (apparently no pain tolerance????).  I've gone in and they take me because I look like I'm in so much pain (and I am) and not handling it well.  But for dealing at home, hips rotating on the ball, trying to drink water, hands and knees position, trying to stay moving, hot or cold on back and, honestly for me, trying to think about relaxing before the next contraction hits, etc.

If they have gotten worse I would go in better safe then sorry... I'm a person who handles pain pretty well to the point when I get to L&D they think I'm faking until they check me so if you are noticing that they are getting more uncomfortable go in! In the mean time I would try a warm bath, Tylenol lots of water, elevating your feet and while contracting try rocking on your hands and knees it's helps a lot!!!! Good luck Mama!
  • I was up until 4 am with on and off contractions/cramping. Not consistent or progressive, but enough to be uncomfortable and keep me up. Now, I'm freaking exhausted and anxious for when exactly this little chickie will come!
I'm toying with the idea of trying all my tricks to start labor today (pineapple, walking, pumping, etc) or waiting until Tuesday. I know it all may be futile, but it does make you feel more in control to do something!

Lol my birth plan used to be "emergency c section" but now I'm thinking of switching to "side of the road baby" for added drama.
If there's no drama, what's the point??
  • I've been having some contractions the last few days. Whether they are real or Braxton hicks I'm not 100% sure. They certainly hurt like real contractions. I even started timing them last night but they were not consistent and only lasted about an hour. That seems to be the theme when they do happen. Also just generally very crampy and a lot of lower back and pubic pain. Thank goodness I see the chiropractor today.
  • Omg I want this for me I was only 1.5cm last Wed dilated and 25%effaced so she couldn't do a sweep like she was going to said she wouldn't be able to. so I see her again this am im praying that I'm 100% effaced or even 50% and at least 2/3 cm dilated or more even so she can sweep my membranes I really really want to get this done and I'm praying I go into labor today tonight even in the morning I'm having my third baby but she is my first girl we are so excited and my first was two days before due date my second was 17 days so I was 37+4 weeks and now my daughter is considered full term as they changed things she tried to come 33 weeks but I was only a cm dilated and they stopped it gave us lung development steroid shots so everything is a go now I'm 39 weeks and I just wish she would come now I'm so happy God blessed me not only with another baby but my little girl I prayed for and I'm so thankful.. I'm breastfeeding only im also cloth diapering everything is setup..I am not sure if I lost my plug or not I've seen pieces here and there but no blood.. pray for me and my daughter Jordan Aria.. please come today babygirl I love you so much !
  • I keep losing my mucous! For the past 3 days I've been losing it a little every single day. Thinking things are progressing. I was 50% 1-2 cm posterior cervix at 38weeks. Getting my membranes sweeper again tomorrow Thursday. Praying she comes tomorrow
  • The hospital where I will be delivering has said that the contractions should be 3-4 minutes apart lasting 1 minute in duration and regular for an hour.
  • I'm 39+1 and been losing my mucus plug a little at a time for two weeks, and lost more today. I'm cramping today and just feeling exhausted. Hoping for contractions to start soon!
  • Good luck @laurenlalap!

    Oh crap! Didn't save!

    So, basically... LONG story short.
Yesterday I went to L&D to have baby checked because I noticed a drastic decrease in movement and rockhard belly. Everything turned out fine and being hooked to the monitor I noticed my rockhard belly was actually contractions! So I had been having BH all day long and was too mobil to notice the on and offs. Nurse checked my cervix and I was a 3cm! Yay! Then she stretched me as much as she could. So the OB on today's appt (my 39w (I'm actually 39-3)) can do a really good S&S. Welp, I came home with nice little cramps and this Am I lost a HUGE piece of MP. I'm talking like 2tbs full of it.
  • I'm sorry @laurenlalap.  It is so frustrating to have painful,  timeable contractions that lead nowhere.   I had it with my second daughter for weeks and weeks.   Finally one day my contractions were exactly the San E as they had been (every 2-3 min) but after 8 hours my water broke,  so I knew that this time it really was the real deal.   The not knowing,  and living in pain,  is so tough :-(
