Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Would anyone mind telling me how Canadian and American Thanksgiving differs? Other than the date, obviously.
They are celebrated for somewhat different reasons/different origins at first. Ours had nothing to do with pilgrims, assuming your really does. Some researchers say it dates back to around 1578, other say the 17th century in Quebec. Both had celebration meals to give thanks, one was for a safe passage (Frobisher-he even held a formal ceremony) and the other was more harvest related.(early french people and Champlain) Harvest related festival/celebrations were apparently common in many places in Europe so it makes sense the really early europeans did something similar when they moved over. It was held on different days in different months in different parts of the country until later.

But is there turkey? And cranberry sauce?

Of course.  :) Lots of turkey and cranberry sauce. (Although that can vary) My parents are from the Atlantic provinces so in my family the dressing/stuffing is made with savory that we buy from an East coast store. (The kind I love is only grown in one place) Lots of people use sage too but now I think a lot of people get fancier with it.

I think a lot of side dishes are similar but not exactly the same. (No marshmallow covered veggie dish traditionally)
  • Does cranberry sauce have the same effect on your bladder as does cranberry juice?

  • @blush64 I'm not sure if the marshmallow thing is universal. I've never had a dish like that.

I can tell you for sure I'm widening in the toush region. I tried to sit in my daughters chair and I definitely don't fit anymore. Nobody better tell me that though.
  • @lfrank12 @leslie1331 my husband follows coaches... and so he *used* to be a Boston fan, but since we got their coach he's been all about the indians lol he said "finally we get a good coach that knows what they're doing" haha... I've just been loving all the days paps Johns has been 50% off  ;)

I assume the marshmallow stuff probably depends on where you live and quite possibly isn't even much of a thing for anyone, anywhere. I have seen it on TV and have heard about it from a relative. I imagine it's like a lot of things I hear about Canada - either completely not true,  mostly not true or varies greatly on where you live.

As for widening, I usually carry mostly out front, almost not showing then all of a sudden a huge belly. The rest of me gained weight but not as much. This time age and the medications seemed to do a number on me. I gained a bunch before I was pregnant and although I haven't gained much since the transfer I certainly am wider. Add to that my stomach can no longer hide this baby too well. I was counting on just looking chubby for another month or two but here I am 23 weeks and hard to hide, I still try.

I am the opposite of a lot of people, I don't want to look pregnant  for as long a possible.  I prefer just looking heavier than usual, less questions, less explanation.

  • I get a much bigger butt when I'm KU, and H mentions it frequently. But it's a "damn, babe. Your ass is HOT!"
Mine is loving the bigger boobs. Plays with them all the damn time. But I already had a big butt ;-)
This! I told him he better enjoy while they are still his and soon they will be productive instead of sexy!

Apparently now I need to try sweet potato with marshmallows... It sounds gross but I've never tried it so I can't judge.

Just went on a walk and now I can't move. Damn sciatica!
  • @tentacular haha thank you! The big issue with me is I'll over analyze and second guess something to the point of  making it crooked and then spending forever to get it back. Lol so even though I try my best I'm definitely not perfect about it!

As for carrying babies.. I usually carry in my belly but my hips and ass definitely get curvier. Meh, I'm making a baby I've come to accept it. I am hoping my doctor gives me the ok to do the stationary bike at the gym though because my ass has been getting a bit less toned. I miss my workout routine!
  • +1 for sweet potatoes and marshmallows being gross. Especially when they use those canned sweet potatoes. Ick.

Sweet potatoes with lots of butter and salt and a little brown sugar, though? Yum.
  • @lfrank12 and @leslie13510, yay for the Indians!

  • +1 to sweet potatoes are gross. But I used to work at a place that made sweet potato jalapeño soup and that was the only time I've enjoyed sweet potato. The jalapeño really cut the sweetness.

@BumpasaurusRex what a horrific thing to say,  I'm glad you don't work with that asshole anymore!
  • My mom doesn't do marshmallows on the sweet potato casserole. She makes it with this crispy brown sugar butter topping. As a kid, I refused to eat sweet potatoes but would steal some of the topping out of the pan and eat it before she put it on the casserole. So much delicious!
My mom does this too and adds pecans as well! Sooooo good!

I can't understand why someone would say "bummer" about a baby either. That's crazy.
