@Gretchypoo@krob really?!!! How do you write that? Is it generally your maiden name first or...?
In San Diego when we were getting married at the courthouse, they told me nope. Also told me the only way to change my middle name was to my maiden name or to go to court if I wanted it hyphenated etc. Then again people are human and they might've told me the wrong Info.
On another note- has anyone seen the video going around facebook with the ring & hair trick to tell you the number of kids & sex they'll be?? Can we please try this out and see whose is right? Haha. Mine said two boys, one girl and in that order, so far we're right on track! Of course all in fun, but so far it's been accurate for the three other friends that have tried it! Here's the video: https://www.facebook.com/meghan.l.gilliland/posts/10154555395476704
I moved my maiden name to my middle name when I got married. My parents had been contrary when I was born and gave me a first name they never intended on using for me. Note for people considering names: DO NOT DO THIS. I had gone by my middle name my whole life, and my first name was just this annoying vestige that confused people all the time. Was happy to get rid of it.
I admit I have been considering whether or not to give my maiden name to any daughters I may have as a second middle name. I didn't want them to feel pressured to keep a middle name around, in case they wanted to do something like what I did. But I was just debating whether to do FirstName MyMaidenName LastName, FirstName MiddleName LastName, or FirstName Middle Name MyMaidenName LastName... I wasn't considering just straight up not giving them a middle name.
I don't like the idea of "Leaving a slot open" like you're just automatically assuming, yes, your daughter will marry, yes, they will take their husband's last name, and no, they won't have a complete name until that happens....
@kirstynikole I kept my middle name bc it honors my grandmothers. I kept my "maiden" name bc its my name and I had a professional reputation built around it. But I also wanted to have the same last name as my kids. So, here's how it looks:
First Middle Maiden Married.
It is quite a mouthful (each is 2 syllables) and there are issues. Like, doctors offices dont like 2 last names. So I never know if I'm under B or W or if they've hyphenated it. So far it hasn't been an issue for insurance, thank goodness. Also, it is long, like, when we bought our house, my last name wouldn't fit in the boxes on the application for a loan. So we had to put in an amendment.
Bonuses: I kept my name and people who knew me as Maiden name, recognize me now. Also, it sounds super fancy
i dropped my middle name all together. I had assumed I would use my maiden name as my middle name, but the woman and the SS office told me I could name myself whatever the hell I wanted to.
So I guess technically i have no middle name and two last names. But even I get confused now. I just knew I didn't want to hyphenate

@krob, that's how my name works too. No middle name, two last names. Some things, like my payroll at work, they have the last name I was born with as a "middle name" and I don't see the point in fighting with them too much, it's not worth the hassle, plus they don't care that I teach using what is in their eyes "Ms Middle Name". But on official official documents, it's First name Last name1 Last name2
@kirstynikole I'd bet it probably varies by State/County. DH's parents had that problem when they named him. He is Hispanic and they wanted to give him a middle name, and then his mothers maiden name and his fathers name as his two last names. The county wouldn't allow it, so to get around the issue they just gave him to middle names (his actual middle name and his mothers maiden name). So, same order and still sounds the same when rattled off, but TECHNICALLY he only has one last name.
I literally thought to myself a few weeks ago that Hispanic names seemed to have two last names. So glad I know what it means now! It's a cool idea. I'm still my given middle name, dropped my maiden name when I got married. My maiden name was super common and also I had brothers, so I didn't feel overly attached
@kswiger06 lol can you tell I was bored. I'm wondering if somehow your subconscious affects it? Of course I know it holds no merit but it was fun to try.
@kirstynikole obviously I don't put much into that ring thing, but I did it lol... first I DO have a boy, girl, pregnant with boy (according to ultrasound) the ring thing got me boy, girl, girl, then it did stop. Soooo according to that ring I should be having a girl, not a boy and that I won't have anymore.... we haven't decided on that yet so we will see lol
I think we are going to drop DD back to 3 hours a day for preschool. With me being home and feeling better, and it not being triple digit weather I can't really justify having her gone 6 hours a day.
I've been having crazy dreams... they come in spurts. 2 nights ago I dreamt of sex with my husband... normally in those dreams it's not him lol and last night I dreamt I kicked a neighbor off our property and told him he's not welcome back. And I like that neighbor! I wonder what awaits me tonight
I have a double name that is my first and middle name combined. I've always gone by both and written it as one word. So when I got married I tried to combine my first and middle name then move my maiden into the middle name slot. I was so upset when they told me I can't change my own first name without going to court. So I just put my maiden name as a second middle name because I was thrown off and didn't really know what to do. I completely regret that now because my official name is 8 syllables long and doesn't fit on any forms.
I hope that's makes sense. It's a little hard to explain without giving out my complete name.

Same here! My parents gave me 2 first names and never gave my family name as my last name. (They did this to all of us.) AND everyone calls me by my last name. It's been a lifetime of confusion. I had figured I would just fix it when I get married but they told me I have to go to court to change my first name. GAHHHHH!! So I ended up just using my original last name as my middle name and stuck on husbands at the end. Now I still have to explain to people why I like to be called by my middle name.
My baby shower is today. I'm praying it is drama free. A couple of people in my family like to be overly dramatic. I actually feel more stressed than excited right now. There's already been unnecessary drama surrounding this shower which makes me pretty sad.
A few months ago I was really sad because we sent my little brother off to Texas A&M to start his freshman year. Well guess where ESPN's college gameday is today? and guess who's awesome little brother got her tickets to the game? H and I are about 45 minutes away from College Station right now and I am SO excited.
DH was running a Spartan race today. His wave was at 9:45 and I still haven't heard anything from him... Hoping he's just drinking beer and forgot to text vs. he broke a bone or something.
@AfKash I hope it all goes smoothly so you can enjoy it!
And cheers to early showers, mines next week although it's more of a brunch with a few out of town cousins, there'll be a whopping 7 people in attendance
I'm at a pumpkin patch and it's your worst nightmare @Spicyweiner flannel shirts every where with leggings and not long enough to cover their ass. And ugg boots. It's also in the 70's and not cold enough for that nonsense

We'll have to get a shower-AW thread going soon! Mine's in two weeks. So glad I'm not the only one. 7 people will be fun, plenty of time to chat with everyone and not too overwhelming.
