Thanks ladies. Instead of feeling guilty, I just need to remember all that I AM doing to make this transition as smooth as possible. I could have stopped working weeks ago! Not that there's anything wrong with that, and those who have stopped early. But my work needs to be a little more grateful. and I also need to set boundaries to take care of myself and my LO!
I would be Livid if someone at work was pressuring me to stay longer. And telling a pregnant lady you hope she goes overdue is just a bad idea. Dangerous dangerous territory.
I feel your pain (annoyance?), @rainmira9e. My school is doing the same thing, but it's a surprise (that I know about). They literally said to my husband, who also works there, "well, you guys can just bring him with you if he comes before then." Um. NO.
My H is a shift supervisor at Kmart in the evenings. He texted me from work tonight about a swing on clearance. We weren't going to get one since we didn't know if the baby would like it, but for $5.93?! Bring on the swing!!
@CopperBoom86 - DH did a lot of research on robot vacuums and decided on the Neato. The model we got does really well with pet hair and doesn't just bounce around your house. It knows where it's gone before during that cleaning so every square inch is clean. Plus it was well priced and can be scheduled to clean whenever you want. So we set ours to clean while we sleep. I definitely recommend it.
@annabenanna the things your friends do sometimes cracks me up. Hey... Thanks for the dirty kitchen folks!
So it just occurred to me that during the last couple months or so my answer to most questions my H asks me is "I don't know" or "do whatever you want".. I have no patience or brain space to think of much besides eating breathing walking sleeping. What made this occur to me is a sudden realization of the frequency I'm telling my coworkers " Use your judgement" which is basically a nicer version of I don't know- do whatever you want.
My type A tendencies (once again, Virgo) have officially checked out and honestly Its a relief.
@chriscasey33 they'll never be ready. Too bad for them. I tried for weeks to help my boss with my transition for maternity leave and she left everything until the absolute last minute. Then, guess what, I have a complication that resulted in me getting pulled early and apparently she's freaking out. These babies can come at any time, their poor planning/preparedness is not your responsibility. You do what's best for you and baby and stop work when you need to.
I cannot possible catch up on everything from yesterday. I didn't get to log on at all because I've been training another one of our part time employees to cover my maternity leave while my assistant is out with her husband. ***Good news from her: He is stable enough to be moved out of his ICU room to a regular room within the next couple of days (as soon as one is available). He will then need in patient rehab and they want to move him back down here to NC (he is in VA) for that. But he does have to be strong enough for the move. So, small baby steps, but some good news!***
I am with everyone on being so uncomfortable. It isn't SO bad most of the day but by the time I get home at 6:30, I'm just done.
I've been able to get comfortable at night so far this whole pregnancy. It's so strange, because when I was pregnant with DS, I started sleeping in a recliner some time around 30 weeks because I was so terribly uncomfortable in bed I couldn't sleep.
I was really swollen with DS, and I'm not this time around, so maybe that played a role. Or, it could be that a toddler has me so worn out already, that just being horizontal feels comfortable by the time I'm able to get into that position.
@f47 I have had the same experience this pregnancy. I've had a few sleepless nights, but for the most part, I'm so tired by the end of the day that I'm asleep by 9 pm. Of course, now my toddler has decided he's going to wake up between 1 and 2 every morning and refuse to go back to sleep for hours. Is it sad that I'm sort of looking forward to the hospital because I'll only have to be awake long enough to breastfeed before going back to sleep?
@ignoscemihi SAME. I mean, I'm up 5 or 6 times to pee, but then straight back to sleep usually.
But, my toddler is on the struggle bus, too. He's up crying several times a night. He also has developed night terrors (if you haven't experienced these, then lucky you because they're God awful). So, we've had a few realllllly difficult nights with him and I'm so tired during the day I can barely function at work. So, bedtime is a real treat. haha
@f47 I think maybe he senses something is up and he's trying to get as much attention as he can before the new baby gets here. My husband usually deals with him in the middle of the night, but we're pretty much all awake for hours because he screams and cries so much. And then I have to deal with him all day.
I'm sorry about night terrors. From what I've read, they seem awful.
I force myself to get up and do stuff and it makes me feel better. I tend to think a body in motion tends to stay in motion. But I usually feel the pain of my actions by evening. I don't know what's better, being active and motivated and then achy and sore or just laying around and having over all lethargy.
@emmaaa Yes! I will lay in bed for a while before getting the strength to sit up. (And, by "sit up" I obviously mean roll until I basically fall out of bed).
@F47 Sometimes I take a quick nap in the bathroom when things are really bad.
lol, not sure of this is serious or not.
Re: sleep, I thought I had a unicorn pregnancy with DS but I was thinking (while peeing at 4 am) how this one has been even easier *don't hate me*. With DS I had carpal tunnel, plus I would wake up starving in the motn and have to have a glass of whole milk or something every night. I haven't had CT or woken up starving this time. I didn't even need to get up to pee at night until a week or two ago, and it's only just once a night. I tend to blame it on the fact that I was working full time last pregnancy, but in reality I'm pretty busy this time around too. I also know several other moms who tell me that their first pregnancy was harder than their second (or subsequent).
Maybe the moral of the story is - if you're a FTM and pregnancy is giving you hell, take comfort in the possibility that next time may be loads easier!
@SpaceBurger, I saved your number on my phone today, because *maybe* *hopefully* the baby will come this weekend? hahaha. I wanted to save it under your real name, but I was like "if i'm in pain with all the contractions, will i even remember your real name????" So now I have you saved as "SpaceBurger"
So now my boss has suggested I leave town before this potential hurricane hits us next Thursday. To go away and possibly deliver with strange doctors, or stay and possibly bring a newborn home to no power/hurricane damages/potentially be in an evacuation situation? I will be asking my doctor on Tuesday at our appointment what she would do!

@annabenanna Unless it's going to be dangerously strong, I am thinking staying here with my doctors is the best bet. We only live a mile and a half from the hospital, we have SUVs to get there in, and the hospital has generators if the area loses power, so it's probably the best spot! The only thing that worries me is that the L&D rooms (with their large windows) are facing the water and have nothing in front of them to block wind/water. I assume they have some kind of storm protocol though.

That makes sense @ibabyloveb87. Also, asking your doctor on Tuesday is a great idea. I'm sure they'd know what advice to give. So scary though! Hoping the hurricane decides to change its course!
@ibabyloveb87 I'm wondering what will happen with this hurricane too...I'm in Florida and havent really seen a clear forecast yet of where it will go, but I was planning on asking my doc tomorrow what I should do should it head our way. But yea I've also heard how they can make women go into labor from the pressure drop so that would be an interesting situation.

hahah @annabenanna Space Burger should be my real life name. I got a text the other night late, and the thought crossed my mind, "Is this my labor buddy? Is she having her baby? How exciting!" It ended up being my friend wanting to discuss the best Taco Bell menu items
@NoraAurora I'm being totally serious about my bathroom naps. I call them my two minute power nip naps, and it can be done in bathroom stalls anywhere.
LOL @SpaceBurger. We have onesie bathrooms, so if someone is in there too long it's a sure sign they're pooping. Andplusalso, I needed a full hour to rest. I literally had to shut my eyes or I wasn't going to make it through the day. That "nap" and a Diet Coke has made for a somewhat productive afternoon at work.
I asked my dr how much she thought my LO was going to weigh... the response... "ultrasounds are just as good as we are and we are just as good as you are...so, how does he feel compared to your son?" Like I can remember how big my son felt 2 years ago
Guys, I'm making myself crazy. It's restaurant week this week in San Diego and I went out to lunch with a girlfriend. We went to a fancy place and ordered their prix fixe. The appetizer was a steak tartare. You know, raw meat and raw egg yolk---which I ate. I figured "ah baby is done cooking anyway, no harm done".
But when I told DH he was so mad at me, he's making me call the nurse and ask what I should do.
*****TW********
I googled it of course and the risk was salmonella or toxoplasmosis (the latter being more serious). Now I'm reading about how toxoplasmosis could be super serious, lead to still births, etc. It also said it takes a few weeks to develop the illness, and it also says it could be contracted a certain number of ways: unwashed veggies, raw meat, cat poop, etc.
So I guess, my question is, should I really worry? Should I call the nurse hotline? I'm paranoid now.
@annabenanna - I'm guessing it's a popular, well known restaurant with pretty strict standards being in San Diego. I really wouldn't worry unless you were having symptoms that should cause you to be concerned. With all the food precautions and restrictions, and recalls for every stupid thing, there's no way to be perfect unfortunately unless all you eat is boiled food.
@annabenanna I agree with @amye102485. If it'll give you peace of mind, call. Like anything else, there's always risk. But I wouldn't stress about it unless you notice worrying symptoms. *Hugs*
I would t worry @annabenanna. Salmonella doesn't cross the placenta so you're good to go there and as for the other one, I'm with @NoraAurora. Also, my guess (read: I've done no research and don't actually KNOW) would be that it's kind of like salmonella where, it's a risk for everyone, all the time... We're just more worried about it during oregnancy bc of the low immune system and the baby and such.
