Another random for the day - DH now has the cold that DD started over the weekend. It seems to be hitting him harder than it did her, unfortunately. Luckily, so far, I'm feeling fine (fingers crossed, knocks on all wood). My big question is how to handle labor/delivery/baby's first few days if he's still sick when the Big Day comes (which is totally possible since my OB has basically said she won't let me go past this Friday)? Will he be allowed in L&D? Should he wear a mask / gloves? Obviously we are all currently practicing excessive hand-washing and other basic infection-fighting ways...but just wondering if anyone has any experience with / suggestions for a sick support person?
@Sporty1216 today is supposed to be the first day I work totally from home and really stop coming into the office (typed from my desk, at work). I feel you. Although I also keep humming myself the Frozen song @AlwaysAuntNeverMom . I... will... relinquish... control................
@marikkita12 yeesh... I'll keep my fingers crossed for something at
least one pound lower for you! A couple of women in my office have had
> 10 lb. babies, they keep telling me how big my belly looks and
taking bets on my baby size. They're now up around 8. If they get to 9 I
am giving them all the silent treatment until the end of time, especially if they end up being right.

If he's coughing a lot I would imagine they would probably want him to at least wear a mask, that's the policy at my hospital at least. And of course hand washing like crazy. I would also be getting some Lysol and spraying down every surface right before the baby gets there... but I'm weird like that.
On the topic of bigger babies, It really bothers me when people refer to my baby (measured 7 pounds at 36 weeks) as "such a huge baby" or something similar. Sorry but no, he is in the 75 percentile so perfectly normal thank you. Not all babies are born tiny at 6-7 pounds... Mine could easily be 9 pounds if he keeps going like he has. I swear I know I should not feel that way but all those comments are making me feel like I did something wrong and it's my fault baby is "too big".
I hope 9lb doesn't feel "too big" on its way out of your vagina.
If your baby tips the scale at 9, you have my prayers, girl. Nothing wrong with a big baby. Just a bigger hassle to get it out of your body!
@JennM205 this Friday?!!!! Whoa that's craziness! It may be a good idea for him to wear a mask and gloves. It's funny bc "back in the day" (80s) some hospitals would require the dads to wear that stuff anyway.
@marajay6 I'm so torn when to transition to a bed. I have heard not to introduce new things right before baby comes (I'm due in a couple weeks). We got him potty trained in July and I felt so accomplished after that hurdle!
Guess who smacked herself in the mouth a few days ago and somehow chipped a tooth? This girl!
Now I get to go to the dentist exactly 24 hours before my c-section to hopefully get it fixed because it hurts.
I'm just hoping I didn't fracture the root or anything that will require serious treatment. I really, really don't want a root canal right after a c-section. Especially since my saliva dissolves the temporary glue they use on crowns and I have to have them glued back on every single freaking day until the permanent is ready to place.

That`s the only thing that is scaring me about a bigger baby! Thankfully I get to have an epidural, but I am really scared to tear a lot or end up with a c-section.

Speaking of big babies, both me and my brother were over 9 pounds (I was just shy of 10) and my mom didn't have any issues delivering us in spite of being petite.
So apparently it's totally doable without tearing or an emergency c-section.

During my first pregnancy, most of the BTDT moms that had one small or average sized baby and one large baby said they couldn't tell a difference as they were coming out. I'm holding on to this like a drowning person with a life raft given my second is measuring to be on track to be 2 lbs larger than my first.
@camichael84- I think that's pretty fair if you think of the size of baby versus birth canal to begin with. Not like a 7 pound baby is going to be like tossing a hot dog down a hallway anyways
One of the many awesome things about DS's daycare is that they take pictures of the kids and email them to us throughout the day. I regularly get 3+ pictures a day and occasionally a video. So this morning I got 2 pictures of my son playing with baby dolls with one of the little girls in his class. Cute. Well in the pictures I got this afternoon, he is now holding hands with the same girl on the playground outside. Full on interweaving fingers hand holding. Does my little guy have a girlfriend?!? The picture is super cute, but daycare has really strict policies about sharing pictures of other peoples kids that I want to obey.
So, just got out of OB appointment and am fighting tears in my car in the parking lot. Not sure why, I think reality is kicking in and I'm terrified at how soon this baby is coming.
My doc said that baby is really low, I'm 100% effaced, 1.5 cm dilated and she doesn't believe that I'll make it to my due date. I've still got a lot to accomplish and I guess I should finish packing my hospital bag.
Oh yeah, to reference earlier about induction @AnnaS930, she said she won't induce until 11 days after EDD as they doesn't believe it's healthy for mom or baby. She laughed though and said she doubted id have to worry about that.
On the subject of big babies, my mom is insisting that this little guy won't be any smaller than 8 pounds, which I realize isn't big, but more than the 6.5 I am hoping for. I don't know why I'm assuming she'll be right, but she usually is
@frogdog06 The only swaddle we have that fits is the Woombie! But he's not a fan (he prefers his hands out when swaddled). We use swaddle blankets instead. It works just fine but sometimes the swaddle comes undone if I don't wrap him super duper tightly. I have a bunch of halos that I hope I can use as he gets older. He's too tiny right now!
H is the best!!! I talked about the Owlet monitor a few nights ago and didn't think he was really paying attention. Well it arrived in the mail today! I would have wanted to wait a bit longer to buy it because of the 30 day return policy but I'm still so happy he surprised me with it. Due date in 21 days so I'm sure we will have time to test it... If not I'll test it on a friends baby lol
@RG1 - I love when husbands pull through on things like this. My husband is notoriously good at ignoring me what feels like a high percentage of the time (or at least not super engaged) then buying me birthday/christmas gifts that are things that I know I've only mentioned casually in passing.
Guys... The August mama who had her baby at 26 weeks could possibly be bringing her little man home in the next day or so after 95 days in the NICU, pretty much right at his due date. Unbelievable!!
There's no winning when it comes to baby size and people's opinions... My LO was big--everyone thought he would be 10lbs (he was 8lbs 11oz) and I got constant comments on his size. Now this baby is small (measuring 5lbs 3oz at 36.3) and I am already bracing myself for comments about that. Blergh.
@geminigirl16 -- I think it's really normal to be more emotional at this point. Even as a STM, I'm having freak outs now that baby girl will be here in no more than a little over 2 weeks! It's just a big deal. But once baby gets here, even though it's overwhelming, you get to have overwhelming love too. Not just logistics. Hope you can take it easy this evening!
@annas930 Yes I love nice surprises! H is so good at presents and I suck so I always feel inferior. He gets me things I didn't even know I needed or wanted but definitely do. For Christmas he got me a new hair straightener because mine was like 10 years old and smelled like burnt hair lol
also I just opened the box and the manual says it's a 100 day money back guarantee for the owlet!
And congrats to @chavezrd2 as well! Sounds like things went pretty quick for you but I'm happy to hear both you and Olivia are doing well!
Also, thanks @yellowrose314 and @RedMar for your input regarding DH's cold. I hope he can kick it before LO arrives but, if not, we will defintely be taking all the precautions!
Just had my NST at the hospital and ended up pre-registering as well. Got a hand out from the admission clerk just general things to know. Apparently the hospital has a new policy about kids visiting, no kids who aren't siblings of the baby may visit. We had decided we'd rather have people come visit in the hospital while we're there and then have a week or two of no visitors so we can settle in, so I texted BIL to let him know that he'll have to come one day after we get out of the hospital since he can't come without DN and she's super excited to see the baby. He was kind of a dick about it actually... wanted us to lie to the hospital staff that DN was actually the big sister. I was like umm no, not comfortable with that and DN looks NOTHING like me or DH so they wouldn't buy it. Told him we'll set up a day for him and DN to come visit after we get home. Weirdo.
We are finally home! Then my bubble was burst at Lucas' first pedi appt when they said he was down 11% of his birth weight. Yesterday it was only 7% so that's obviously a concern. He is sooo sleepy and it's been a struggle to get him to nurse. So we are working on giving him some pumped milk in addition to nursing and he has another weight check tomorrow. They want to see him at least maintain his weight from today. She mentioned if he loses much more he would have to be admitted to Children's hospital. So I'm desperately hoping to avoid that.
