Re: Weekly Randoms (8/8)

  • @Gingersnap keep us posted on your daughter, how scary!

I love winter too!  I love having four seasons and last year we hardly had a winter.   Watch this be the year of February blizzards.

I got two houses under contract yesterday so YAY!  Then today I spent an afternoon with my most annoying client, in horrible rainstorms.  This job can be so weird.

Can we talk about the Olympic swimmers and divers?   Yum.

Shit I am late to the party, but I hope she feels better quick @Gingersnap That sounds miserable for her :( And you for that matter!

  • Fingers crossed here too for your little one Gingersnap. I've never dealt with wee ones being sick, but I can definitely imagine it's a scary situation :(
  • FX that the antibiotics do the job and that your DD feels better soon! @Gingersnap

i've missed a lot, yikes! Add me to those who are already fed up of summer. It's not just hot but incredibly humid here. Especially the last 2 days! I'm only 14 weeks but my feet are already swelling by the end of the day. Hopefully this is strictly humidity-related because I don't think I'll survive if this keeps on the whole pregnancy. Swelling in 3rd tri is acceptable but not now, NO.

  • The December group has a really good thread going on about how they make it work as SAHMs (or not, depending on situation) and I just read the whole thing.

Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @Gingersnap how is she feeling today?  Any change?
  • @homemake I'm going to be new at the SAHM thing come Feb, but I'm a total finance nerd so I love all the discussions!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I wish I could just hunker down and do the Dave Ramsey method for a year to get as much stuff paid off as possible, but just doing it has been so difficult. We have so many projects going on around our house and life going every which way that I feel like it would push me over the edge if we jumped head first into it.

We have two sleeping beauties in heaven.

  • If daycare didn't take such a huge chunk out of our monthly budget, we'd be in a much different place, financially.

At least I can still daydream.

  • Out of curiousity, in the US, how much is the monthly cost for daycare? I've realized I actually have no clue what the general price is for you ladies.

@bdesterhouse you can do it.  Do a modified version if you need to.  Do you have a written out budget?  if not start there.

Edit: To add that the Dave Ramsey method works.  It really does!

  • @bdesterhouse We are also Dave Ramsey fans! Even when life is not perfect for the plan, you just have to do the best you can. We had to adapt a few things to make it work for us in the long run, but the snowball is really key!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I'm late but I hope your DD is feeling some relief today from the antibiotic today @Gingersnap

  • @PerraSucia high chair twins
  • @peachesnbean I cannot believe you only pay 120 per week!  LUCKY!!  I pay $200 and that is not a high end school. When I did look at the higher end schools it was closer to $250-$300.

  • @homemake man we bought a fancy Stokke high chair and team ikea 30 dollars all the way.
  • @FishyMom - Its pretty average for this area. It is a licensed and accredited in home day care that provides curriculum. For an in-home its one of the more expensive ones. But it is pretty comparable to centers. That price is for children 16mos+. I think infants are 160/wk.

In MS the average newborn cost is about $130-$150 a week and preschool runs about $125. So I'm looking at $1k a month with 2 kids in daycare/school.
  • Yay!!!!!!!!!!
  • I am officially at "work pants do not button" stage.  :s

I am on Ontario but just from knowing prices across a couple cities and towns here I assume it's the same there- prices depend on where you are and which type of facility you use. (Home vs centre vs nanny etc) Edit It also depends on the ages in most centres. (Infants are the most expensive and the cost goes down at certain ages)

@Gingersnap I am glad to hear the fever is gone! (Hopefully the crabby goes too :) )

Our center has already given us a quote for both kids.  For full-time care, it's going to be $2,200/month.

That's WITH the sibling discount.  Someone hold me.

  • We will be paying $140/week when baby arrives. We paid $125/week for our son from the same provider so daycare in our area has been increasing. This is for an inhome daycare. Daycare centers in my area and way too high to justify, I would just stay home if centers were our only option. Otherwise I would be working to pay for daycare.

  • Oh my God!! Daycare is ridiculously expensive!! If I did decide to go back to work, my entire paycheck would go towards daycare.  My God. Those who have awesome parents/IL ate super lucky. My cousin's mom take care of her baby.

  • One of the daycares near me wants $1150 a month!

For or those of you who use in-home daycare, how did you find out about them? Google hasn't helped at all in my search and I don't know any local moms who could give me references.
  • Daycare for DD was about $1300/month. Ugh not looking forward to that again.

  • My kid has eaten a healthy portion of Cheetos for lunch.

IDGAF because it is the first thing I have been able to get her to eat in days because she has been struggling with a stomach virus.
