Question here, I'm on mobile, occasionally I won't recognise a profile pic when someone loves something so I click to see who it is. But there have been a couple times that instead of it saying I clicked the picture, it says I clicked "report". Is that a big deal?
2. Man. I'm gone one day and miss all the fun. I'm so bummed.
3. Went to the chiropractor today for the first time. I'm desperate for some headache/lower back relief. When he adjusted my neck, it sounded like a round of gunfire. I'm now in bed contemplating where in life I went wrong.
You guys. Last week, I was at the park with DS and the dog and a hawk with its eye on a squirrel flew by and hit my arm. Tonight, walking the dog just now, a bat flew down through the trees and smashed into my throat. WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK. I HATE THINGS THAT FLY!
One of my nightmares last night was that all my teeth were falling out. Slowly at first, but then faster and more at a time until I had rushed to the dentist and was standing in front of the receptionist, toothless and crying.
Ohandalso, the first week I was here, I didn't think I'd like it because everyone seemed too rough around the edges for my rainbows-and-sunshine personality. But now I get irrationally angry at stupid posts and unnecessary threads and fake nice and I make faces at my screen and grimace and side-eye with the best.
I have been having really elaborate sex dreams for weeks and weeks now and they've turned into like a weird continuing scifi plot. Like total recall meets a better written 50 shades of grey.
@PerraSucia maybe you should be keeping a journal. Could be lucrative. Mine have all been a jumbled mess. A few nights ago, I crashed a stranger's BMW because I couldn't figure out how to put it in reverse.
On the topic of dreams: Last night I had a very expensive dinner with Donald Trump and Dolores Umbridge. The restaurant was this sort of multi-level museum and each floor had a different theme and matching menu. The idea was to pick an item from each menu, and eat it while walking down the corridors to the next staircase. It didn't matter if you wanted all appetizers or main courses or dessert. I picked pie from each level because pie sounded amazing, but quickly got full and just kept stacking these different pies up on top of each other because I was determined to take them with me. At the end Trump and Dolores high-tailed it outside and left me with a $684.23 dinner bill (before tip. Ahem.) I burst into tears because Hubby didn't know I was even going to this event, let alone spending an entire paycheck on it. So I explained to the waiter who was very understanding that I couldn't pay and to please give my card back. He didn't, I cried, and had to leave my pies. Then I ran out into the street in shame and embarrassment and almost got hit by a horse-drawn carriage. Pregnancy is weeeird.
@MommaBean that's crazy! Especially about the hawk. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but you might want to give your doc a call and just let them know that happened with the bat. I've known people who had a bat in their house and had to get some vaccine boosters since they can spread some illnesses. I doubt that would be the case with a random fly by but you never know.
So I might be a Debbie downer here...is anyone kinda not excited for baby? I'm happy to be pregnant but nothing feels real yet. I have no desire to buy anything or look for anything. I still haven't been to the dr yet though I am closer to finally gettin our insurance settled. I don't feel like there is a baby in there. I puke everyday but I have no bump and it's making me all sad. I want to be excited and buy things and hear my babys heartbeat but I'm just not. Is this normal for stm? Where maybe you feel like yes growing a new life is exciting but I'm just not that into it? anywhosss after that yalls dreams sound scary and would make me full of anxiety the day after! Hopefully you get some peaceful sleep soon!!
@mjsommer it's ok to get that way! I was really down my first pregnancy, I am fairly certain I had depression. It manifested in weird ways like a total ridiculous (in retrospect) fear of breast feeding. Find someone (friend/husband/us) and just talk.
No matter what you love your baby and you will feel connected later on!
This pregnancy is totally different. I feel great physically/emotionally.
I accidentally posted this in last week's randoms so this is a C/P.
How many users have Ariel as their avatar? I love me some Little Mermaid but I'm having trouble keeping track of who is who, I think there are at least 3!
@mjsommer I am also a STM and I don't feel connected either. The bump didn't come fast last time, but in my head it did. When I think back on my first pregnancy I remember the movements, the growing bump, the happiness/excitement/fear. That will all come and it will be here soon. I just think we are relating the early stages of this pregnancy to the later stages of her last pregnancy and it's hard because it's very different. We will get there I am sure it will be just as great as the first time around.
@laurenashley04 The only way I know to see the replies is through a computer. I don't think there's a way to do it on mobile. I think there is a way to see messages through Settings maybe?
@bumpasaurusrex I know I mentioned it in the other random but I completely agree I tend to lump all the Ariels together it's kind of funny. Although I personally need to change my avatar. Since it's just a generic picture of a flower.
I'm actually surprised with all the Ariel avatars. Not sure what prompted the others but my niece absolutely loves her (as i do) and we're really close so it just seemed fitting when I picked it out.

I'm a guilty Ariel avatar. If it's confusing people, I can change mine. I have red hair, and the Little Mermaid came out on my birthday, so she's always been my favorite princess. But I don't think anyone has an Anna from Frozen avatar. I can switch to that one, since she's another redhead Disney character that people say I actually look like.

STM+, I have a question. I'm trying to do a disposables vs. cloth diaper service price analysis. H has vetoed washing our own cloth, but our local service seems relatively reasonable. About how many diapers do you go through in a week? A month? I'm somewhat of a SS and if we do go with disposable it'll be whichever brand my future research deems most sustainable (probably Seventh Generation or similar) so it probably won't be the cheapest ones. I work in environmental science and have to think about this stuff all day, but you can judge me if you want. I don't really blame you.
I highly recommend joining the FB group Car Seats for the Littles. I've learned a ton from reading other peoples questions and have gotten good feedback on installation and seat recommendations based on our budget, car, and age/sizes of kids. The Car Seat Lady is also a really good resource.
The safest place to install the seat is wherever you get a proper installation. If you get a good installation in all potential locations then the middle is the safest as there's the most space around it in all directions to allow for the impact to be absorbed more before getting to that seat. A poor middle installation is not as safe as a good outboard installation. The general recommendation if you have more than 1 car seat in the car and can get a installation is to put the least protected kid in the middle, so if you have a FF 3 year-old and a RF newborn, the FF kid should be in the middle.
As far as expirations go, my DH didn't really get it because plastic is virtually indestructible. Then he saw one of those little plastic toys for kids that had been left outside for awhile. It looked fine, other than fading, until he picked it up and tried to use it then it fell apart. While car seats are made of much more durable plastic, but it's the same principle. They're subjected to extreme hot and cold in the car and over time the plastic loses it's integrity even though it may look/feel fine. How sturdy it feels in your hand might be very different than how it acts in an actual accident.
While hospitals do escort you to the car when you leave the hospital with your baby, almost none of them check the installation of the car seat (or even that you have the harness adjusted properly for your baby). They are just checking to make sure you put the baby in the car seat. Checking the installation would put more liability on them and would require additional training/certification that they just can't/don't want to take on. A lot of fire departments, sheriff's offices, and health departments will have 1-2 certified car seat installation technicians that can check your installation and help you get a proper installation, but you usually need to make an appointment. There are also websites where you can look up CPST's in your area. Most of the time the checks or free or a small donation is recommended to help cover their time/travel costs.
A couple of other common things that tripped us/family up before: 1. If you're going to do a middle installation with Latch, you usually have to have 3 seats of Latch anchors in the car, which is becoming more common, but still isn't standard. A few cars and car seats will you allow to "borrow" the anchors from the outboard seats, but not many and you have to make sure that both will allow it. 2. For most cars and car seats you are not allowed to have the front seat touching the car seat. If you have the right combination of car and car seat it's fine, but that's hard to come by. 3. Most car seats do not allow the use of seat protectors under them because they can give a false illusion of a good installation. This is tricky because many of the companies that make car seats also make the protector mats to go under them, but when you read the car seat instructions it will say not use any seat protectors. (Some say you can use a thin towel, etc.)
Sorry for the super long post. I'll go back to my corner and be quiet for a while...
@xstatic3333 making us do math so early in the morning... First I'll say I think it's great you are thinking about this, that being said o use the cheapies.
So DD uses about 5 at school, I put one on before school, and one for bed. On the weekends I don't use as many maybe 4? So I'll say 45-50 a week.
I should also add it was ALOT more when she was a newborn.

Thanks @FishyMom! I remember back when I was a toddler teacher parents would get a little annoyed that we changed them at regular intervals even when they were just a smidge wet. I can totally understand that logic now!
@Xstatic3333 it obviously is going to change from newborn to toddler but we go through at least 40 a week now. We are switching to cloth for the next and subsequent kids even though at first I wasn't for it. I think the savings are going to be immense.

Oh totally! I wish I could get H on board, but he says he'll only do it if we get a new washing machine. Our current one is a HE that kind of pulses instead of washing continuously, and although I know you can use HE washers for CD, he's "just not comfortable" and I want him helping with the baby stuff!
Our local CD service is $25 a week, which includes prefolds. We'd need to buy our own covers. The Honest Company bundle (the easiest earthy crunchy to get pricing for, not something I'm necessarily set on), which includes ample diapers for a month and wipes according to you guys, is $80 if you subscribe, so that still holds the price advantage. Still, it's close enough to give the service some consideration.
I'm wondering if I'll need to bother with newborn sizes at all. No baby on either side of my family in anyone's memory has ever been below the high end of 8 lbs. I'm thinking just one pack if anything.
@Xstatic3333 Make sure you look at the Amazon Mom subscribe and save pricing in your comparison as well. We typically use Pampers and the Amazon basics wipes, but I know they have some of the crunchier brands available too.
For Pampers, unless I found an amazing coupon/sale stacking scenario (and honestly I don't have time to keep up with all the sales and coupons to routinely do this) the Amazon S&S was always cheaper (and Amazon has digital coupons you can clip too.) I'm sure it will vary by brand, but wanted to make sure you didn't overlook it.
@Xstatic3333 I wouldn't bother with newborn sizes. Most people don't. But I will use disposables in the hospital and switch once we're home. I have no recollection of how many we went through, but if you decide to wash them it's really not bad at all! I'm going to stick with mostly prefolds and covers this time too
@silvercamaro77 thanks for all that information! We will be starting off with one carseat, but our cars are older models (04), so I will have to look into what sort of fasteners we are working with.
Edit: Looks like Seventh Generation prices through Amazon Mom are comparable to the Honest bundle. Good news since I know not every brand works for every baby! All of the other crunchies seem completely ridiculous in price and just not doable for us.
Yea I'm guilty of my avatar too. I changed it to my old one because I didn't like my face being out there for the real world to see. Not gonna lie though, I secretly love seeing all the redhead avatars, because I'm one too @Tennis11785 ! Although I have curly hair so I'm more of an Ariel & brave mixture. haha. My mom said the only thing that kept her sane through my first few years of life was the Little Mermaid tape. As soon as it came out on VHS she bought it and I watched it so much that it broke the tape and we had to buy a new one.
Speaking of diapers, I just glanced over to see my son twirling in the living room sans diaper & pants. The hell kid, it's too early for this already.
