Re: Weekly Randoms (8/1)

  • I googled my towns diaper service and sheesh talk about a lot of work. I'd love to do cloth diapers, but I don't have the stomach to handle poop in a disposable diaper so I don't know how I'd do scoopin poo into a toilet.

We have two sleeping beauties in heaven.
Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016.
Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015.
They will be forever missed. <3

  • Obviously I spent too much time on here last night. I had a dream that I met @GlitterDragon lol she didn't look like her profile picture exactly, but she was talking about her pregnancy and I said "hey! I think I kind of know you."  It was super weird when I woke up. Who knows maybe I'll dream meet more of you ladies :)

  • Thank you for the responses:) @FishyMom that makes a lot of sense about comparing right now pregnancy to what I remember last which was super pregnant time. That thought really helped ease my mind this morning!
For all interested I cloth and money savings it can be a huge saver and I mean huge if you shop used diapers and wash at home. We bought all used in the beginning I spent 300 and had enough to last through potty training. I did end up using disposables we got for our shower in the beginning but our one size cloth started working around 3 weeks old. This time around I will get newborn diapers I have  11 size 1 thirstiest covers and newborn pre folds but I'd like to add about 15 aios. We went through a minimum of 25 diapers a day. My son just pooped so much lol. Now that he's a year we go through about 10 diapers a day. I use grovias and some pockets now with pre folds stuffed in so they last about 2 hours. It's work for sure and poop is gross but I just use the sprayer and a spray pal and it's all good. I do laundry every other day. It helps to think about the environment of you want to do it but struggle with poo and yuck stuff lol! A diaper takes 500 years to decompose and if you get some pre folds they can be repurposed into cleaning rags or stuffing if you can't resell or reuse for next child. Those thoughts really helped me especially when I struggled and wanted to quit bc I was sick of laundry or stuffing diapers. If the upfront cost is an issue there are quite a few foundations where they will lend you diapers for free! For as long as you need and then when you are done you just give them back. One is Giving diapers giving hope and the Rebecca foundation is another.
  • @WinchesterGirl I think vehicles made after 2002 all have the latch connectors, but you'll still have to check the middle seat to see if it has it's own set if you plan to install in the middle because they aren't required in all seating locations.

If you go with something like the Britax clicktights a seatbelt is usually an easier installation than latch anyway so it wouldn't make a difference plus some people think getting a tight install is easier with the seatbelt regardless.

We've primarily used the Chicco Nextfits (we skipped infant seats all together and started each kid in a convertible) and their latch is super easy to tighten so I was sad when the kids got close to the latch weight limits and we had to switch to seatbelt.  It still wasn't too bad, but with the Nextfit's latch I could easily get it tight enough with 1 hand.

Yay! A crunchy buddy! I'd feel better about disposables if I lived somewhere drought prone, but we have loads of water here so that excuse is thin for me.

Yay crunchy buddies! We dont live in a drought area either. I think we'll go cloth with disposable as a backup bc Hubs and I both have really sensitive skin and I think bebe will prefer cloth.

I think we're going to wash our own. We're considering one of those no electricity washers but that sounds like a lot of work...

Oh wow! Those are cool, but then what do you do with the poop water? Pour it down the regular drain? Blech. I would have loved that back when I lived in an apartment, though.
  • @kswiger06 that's too funny, how random!

Ps I look nothing like my profile picture ;)
  • @GlitterDragon lol I was debating on sharing my dream on here because I thought how creepy. I justified it by thinking you were the creeper intruding in my dreams haha. On how you look, my mind decided you are indeed goth/punk but mostly punk, have shoulder length black hair, a nose ring, tattoos including a dragon, and you were just the sweetest person on earth lol.

  • @kswiger06 I'm sorry for intruding lol.  that's a lot more edgy than what I look like but I do have a lot of tattoos so there's that.. No dragon one though.  I picked that avatar because she's one of my favorite literary characters :)

Me threeeeee!! I went super crunchy with DD and even made my own laundry detergent for my cloth diapers and did reusable wipes and made my own solution too. Honestly, cloth diapering is not hard AT ALL! I didn't even initially choose to CD, but my DD ended up being super sensitive to disposables (even the organic kind) so I tried them out and ended up being addicted. So you guys should definitely go for it :)
Also I never did much with the poop. I plopped it into the toilet (used a little TP if needed) and then put it in the washer. Everything always came out clean!

  • So I just got my thyroid levels back for this month and my TSH is even lower than last time and it was already really low. It's now just saying <0.05 when normal range is 0.27-4.2. My free T4 was same as last month at 1.8. My doctor had said it was fine last time but now I'm wondering if it's bad and am really anxious to hear back from her. I've been so exhausted. I went to bed at 8pm last night and slept through the night and right now I'm fighting sleep at work harder than anything. DH even told me I look terrible at lunch (not in a mean way, he thought something was really wrong and it's just I'm so tired). I mean I was basically falling asleep while trying to eat my food and he was talking to me.

  • @silvercamaro77 thank you all of the info about car seats, I'm thinking about joining that FB group to learn more. Thankfully we have the britax click tight which does make installation very easy and secure. This weekend we'll be looking at new vehicles with both car seats in tow to see how they fit! Haha

@Gretchypoo @Starfish113 @Xstatic3333 I'm also in the CD club. I loved it with DS but stopped when he turned a year and started going to daycare.. Now I'm back staying at home with him and wonder if I should switch back to cloth.. But I've never dealt with poop past the first year. Guess it should be easier since now they're little turds and can plop into the toilet. Did they ever stain your diapers though?

Yes it will be WAY easier now!! And no they didn't stain. Sometimes I'd leave them in the sun to brighten but it won't be bad!!

  • We did cloth with all three of mine.   I still have my stash because I was lazy about getting rid of it.   I do have a newer HE top loader so I know I will need a different wash routine.   I always did my own and it never seemed too gross, really.  Poop just plopped into the toilet, and you couldn't beat the savings, especially after two kids in them.

  • @marriedhamstermom don't worry about the TSH, that's just how hard your body is getting your thyroid to work (mine is often quite low). The important thing is that T4 is in the correct range.

  • I've fallen down the daycare rabbit hole.  Someone pull me out!

Why is there no good one-stop shop for reviews of these places?  Besides looking at infractions, some are on yelp, some aren't. I just want to be able to review parents' feedback.
It's so easy to do! I checked everywhere I could, yelp, Angie's list, Facebook, Google. I found stopping by to view the facilities unannounced seemed to work too- I know that may be frowned upon but I wanted to see what it was like at any time of day.
  • Let's play a game!  It's called "How many threads about Zika can F'17 have?"

my my husband is OBSESSED with it and I CANNOT wait for this baby to come so I can continue NOT caring about it.

Question here, I'm on mobile, occasionally I won't recognise a profile pic when someone loves something so I click to see who it is. But there have been a couple times that instead of it saying I clicked the picture, it says I clicked "report". Is that a big deal?
Bahahaha!!! "I just reported you.  But you don't mind, right?"

  • My poor dog has some sort of irritation on her vulva. She's acting okay but do I take her in? I feel like if I had red pissed off area I'd want someone to take me in.
  • I found out today that my blood type is O+, not A+ as I was told by my parents my whole life. So it's good I opted to not get it tattooed on my wrist like I wanted to at 18 years old. Mehhhh.

Brings up a good topic....anybody have to get the rhogam shots.  I think I will have to in my next pregnancy.  How often do you have to get them?

The one I posted in was the one from last week (?) and as soon as I posted I saw another one started. I thought that was weird. Sorry if the one I posted in wasn't the original one.  :|

I would, but I'm definitely in the "treat my dog like a person" category.  There's probably some sort of cream they could give you.

I'm RH negative and I just have to get two shots - one at about 28 weeks and one at delivery.

Ahhh yes take her in! The poor thing. If my vag was red, I'd seek treatment faster than you can say it. That's the worse!

@kswiger06 I think we've reached a point where we can definitely start HDBD. Feel free to start it tomorrow!

  • @FishyMom I think you might be thinking of something else.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  Rhogam is an injection you have to get if your RH factor is different than your husband's RH factor. Because after the 1st baby your body develops immune cells against the opposite RH factor and can kill the baby.
I'm RH negative.  And we're pretty sure that my husband is positive.  I hope that makes sense and that I answered your question.

  • @afkash yes the Rogahm is if you are negative and there is a possibility the baby could not be. When I had my MC I had to have one, when I bleed during my last pregnancy I had to have one, and then again later and once again after birth of the baby was positive.

I I had to have 4 in just a little over a year.
