My office had a surprise shower for me today (I suspected it). Amazing fine. The most thoughtful and generous gifts. They made onesies for the boys. They bought me a breast pump (huge surprise) and so many other things.
My M14 ladies gifted me 4 nights of a night nurse today too. I'm irrationally excited about that.
***my office handles HOA matters so the super/subpriority isn't related to favoritism.
This thread blew up this morning and I wasn't paying attention!
@AllyTheKid I do take bump pictures every week, but I don't care for pictures of me in general. Most candids that have been taken of me this pregnancy, I just look fat. Which depresses me because I lost 80lbs a few years ago, gained most of it back while TTGP, and packed the rest back on during pregnancy. So I don't know if I'll regret the lack of photos later or not, but right now definitely depress me. Which makes me sound like a bad person...
If you're a bad person, I am too. Substitute 65lbs for 80 and PGAL for TTGP and I could have written this. *hugs*
@anna.oskar *Hugs* Losses definitely don't help with weight gain. People keep telling me to enjoy the time and worry about the weight loss later. I do love being pregnant and my bump, but that still doesn't make the pictures any more enjoyable to look at. Lol
I tried on a long dress and I feel like a circus tent. I'm hoping my short dresses I ordered from pink blush don't make me feel the same way or I am screwed.
@krzyriver Definitely doesn't make you a bad person! Like I said, I felt the same with my first, and I was the biggest I've ever been with her so was really insecure. I just personally regret it looking back now. I certainly don't blame anyone for not really wanting pictures, especially awkward candid ones.
@bnsmith85 I remember it like it was yesterday- it was my first experience being flamed, ever, and I felt sick over it for days =/ they were VERY anti-subsequent shower on that board. I love O16, this is such a relaxed BMB.
@AllyTheKid Good point. I don't have to look at them now, but I might want to see them later. And I love this board too. I remember an old board I was on (or lurking, can't remember) where people were SO opinionated about what others did at their weddings/showers/etc. And I just remember thinking "Why do they care so much? It's not their event and it's not like they're invited." Lol
@krzyriver@AllyTheKid I've never understood why other BMBs get so worked up over "shower etiquette". Sometimes I go to the baby shower forums when I'm bored just to read how insane people get over their shower opinions. When I'm invited to a shower, I don't think about whether its first baby, second baby or tenth and could care less about who's hosting. If I know the person, I go or send a gift
I honestly like giving gifts shower or not. usually for subsequent babies we do a lunch sprinkle. I like when people open presents so maybe I'm selfish but I love a lot of showers (except when it's for me bc I can't w the attention)
@mrszoess I'm the same. I will give my friend a gift whether it's her first, second, or third. Shower or no shower. I love giving gifts and I love watching the people I love open my gifts.
@early30mom4031 It's the Internet, people like to get worked up over things. Lol. I've always been of the opinion that people should do whatever makes them happy. If it's someone I love, I'm happy to celebrate with them, regardless of whether or not it's proper etiquette.
I was actually talking to my mom about all this etiquette stuff last night. Because last minute, after the invitations have already been sent, my MIL decided she wants to do that "bring a book" thing. So it's now up to my mom (or me) to tell people as they RSVP. Um, no. It's one thing to put it on the invite. I'm cool with people who do that. But I know people will RSVP to me instead of the host, and I'm not telling them what to buy me. I don't care much about etiquette, but I'm definitely not comfortable with that! Lol
West coaster here, and it seems the norm to have more than one shower here as well. I think it just depends on your friends and family. We're having two... a more intimate family one and a friends one.
Regarding maternity dresses and clothes... I learned real quick that anything that is not fitted, is not my friend lol
Our first shower is tomorrow and my mom is throwing the other one september 4th, which is cutting it way to close for my comfort. I told her that I would prefer it in August, but she thinks it's just my PGAL brain being unreasonable. Between my history and the GD I'm expecting him to be early so hopefully he'll stay cooking until at least sept 5th, preferably a few weeks longer!
I'm actually a little bit bummed that nobody has suggested or asked about a shower for us. Even though it's our second time, we're having twins and have had to buy new of literally everything times two+ (cribs, car seatsx3, more clothes, new vehicle to fit 3 kids across)...I know it's "bad etiquette, selfish, and gift-grabby", but we could really use the help! I've personally attended second showers for friends of mine over the past couple years, and none of them have asked about showers, registries, gifts, or anything. Ok, done whining.
That's a valid reason to whine @kmvisioli. Do you have a family member you could confide in who would want to throw one of the knew you needed the help?
@bnsmith85 thanks for the validation. Unfortunately we live in TX, my family all lives in CA, and DH's family is all in the PA area. Our parents have helped pay for a couple things, which is definitely helpful. I guess mostly I'm just a little surprised that our friends aren't doing more. I know they will all be super helpful once the twins are born, though.
I'm totally not a dress person, so I bought this cute blouse today at Kohl's. It isn't maternity, but I think it still looks okay (hopefully). On the shower invite we asked gusts to wear pink or blue depending on what they thought Bean was going to be, so I've got a thin blue cardigan that I'm going to wear over this. Then I'll pair it with capris and sandals.
@nataliemaephotography I am not a dress person either, but my MIL bought me one, so I kind of feel like I might get stink eye if I don't wear it for the shower.
How many people attended? About 15 - family only with DH family plus my mom
What did you wear? Navy dress from Pink Blush
Was there a theme? Nope just Baby Boy!
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. Yes! Better than I expected actually. Really enjoyed it. It was in the morning so they had a brunch and it was all delicious!
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Favorite part was catching up with some of DH's family that I had not seen since I got pregnant! Yet we live 5 minutes from one another. We have all been too busy!
Any pictures you want to share?
Might have a new favorite outfit. The 3 pregnant cousins. Missing one! January baby, me, and an August/any day now baby! And of course my favorite part of the food!
Looks like a great shower and you look amazing @ibabyloveb87!!
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
What did you wear? A 10 dollar dress I got at the swap meet... it was light, airy, and comfy.
Was there a theme? Adventure themed!
Did it go as you expected/wanted? Share. There were a couple people I was surprised didn't show up and my two hosts kind of butted heads and I felt like I was in the middle. Overall it was wonderful though!
What was your favorite part? Or least favorite part if applicable. Favorite part was that it seemed to all flow very well and I got to sit and chat with a lot of people. Least favorite part was that while my friends threw it for us, it was at our house, so there was a lot of work we had to do before and after as far as cleaning and stuff, but it was worth it!
Any pictures you want to share?
I look HI look HUGE. My face has gotten super fat and my nose is like spreading and getting wider and I'm not sure why I'm standing with my arms out like that, but this is one of the only OK pics of me from the shower lol
Thanks, @bnsmith85, @mrszoess and @nlane0723 ... and YES! Those lemon cakes are stupid amazing. I could only have half of one because of GD, but if it weren't for that, I would have eaten the whole plate. They're on my running list of things I want to eat immediately once my GD is gone postpartum... along with poke, a mai tai and probably a whole carrot cake from SusieCakes - just to name a few.
My mom is putting on my shower and I know how much it's costing her, so I offered to buy the cake (since I wanted a professional one and didn't want her spending more money than she already is). I ordered a custom cake topper and I got it today.
Thank you everyone! Totally didn't mean to come off like I was fishin' for compliments, just haven't taken a whole lot of pics during pregnancy and was like "woah!".
