The first few days of breastfeeding and engorgement are awful. I post the pic above so people don't freak out. Try reverse pressure softening (google it) if you are super engorged. And don't pump if you are engorged. If you need to, hand express (google it).
Anyone else have a baby with positive Coombs? I've been so scared that I haven't even announced Nori's birth to my friends. We're waiting on yet another blood test and I'm sunning her all day every day in just a diaper and practically force feeding her to try to help the jaundice. I'm so worried they'll take her back to hospital. We did a day of these bizarre blue light blankets already...
@theshannondee That was hilarious, pretty much been my parenting strategy so far so I'm glad I'm not alone! This is survival! I was just telling DH last night that I don't know how people survive following all of the recommended newborn schedules and lists that I see floating around on Pinterest and parenting articles. If it works for you, awesome, but I think it would send me right over the edge of sanity in my already sleep deprived state!!

@winnie1122 right?! We tried forcing a couple routines but he's just not ready yet! It was more work and tears for me than any sort of benefit. Now our routine is- if he's happy, I'm happy. Done!
Thank you ladies!! I see the light at the end of the tunnel for this burning sensation to be gone! I just wish it were a little brighter! I used the peri bottle for the first time after reading these Today and omg what a relief! Idk why I didn't think of that!
Maybe it's TMI but I usually get a "gush" of blood each time I'm nursing..not like a huge gush but enough to make me want to immediately change my pad...I assume it's just my uterus contracting and expelling some stuff but I'm 9 days PP and wasn't expecting to still have bright red bleeding at this point. Anybody else experience something like that?
@rnyland1 I had blood present for quite a while. I'm also breast feeding and I think your guess is right! Really started to wear off around the 3 week mark for me! Hope that helps.
Folks, I just learned there is a legit difference in pacifier brands. Everyone had told me my kid would love a paci, to which I'd reply - Tried it. No success! Tonight I got a wild hair up my ass and thought I'd grab a third kind...the green ones that also come with the wubbanubba's and see how kid likes that. It was LOVE at first suck! I almost cried! I'm sure I will cry when I have to break it from her but for now, I'm in love. She was asleep 6 minutes later.

Those are the only ones Aubrey will take. It's what they had in the hospital so it's the first kind she ever tried and now I can't get her to take any others.
We only take the soothies here as well (the ones that hospitals usually give you and what is attached to the wubbanubs). I actually went to target to try and buy a wubbanub because LO will repeatedly spit out her pacifier or pull it out on accident and get pissed until you put it back in. All they had was a Dr. Brown's Lovey. The pacifier is attached to one of the animal's arms rather than it's mouth.
Pro: you can remove the pacifier and attach a new one if needed, or attach a teething toy when you get to that point. It has loops on both arms. It's also only $10. Con: the pacifier it comes with is smaller and really soft and LO does not like it at all.
I try to tuck the pacifier into her blanket when she is swaddled which helps, or even into the edge of her onesies, but she still manages to lose it.
yesterday we found out that Camille has the sickle cell trait which by itself isn't harmful but she's also had two episodes where she just looked weird to me. Her right eye was off centered, she had these weird mouth movements that were much slower and her body just stiffened. She Also showed no interest in eating. It doesn't last long but I'm still concerned. The doctor wants us to come in today for her to be checked. Thoughts and prayers are welcomed as I'm pretty scared.
Lots of positive thoughts coming your way @Heathereaddy. I'm sorry you're having to go through this with your little girl. Give her extra snuggles and please keep us updated!
Thanks everybody! Our usual pediatrician was out so her colleague saw Camille today. She suspects that it's acid reflux which I'm not totally sold on. She wants me to record the next episode and bring it in. I wish I felt reassured after our visit but I don't. Praying it doesn't happen again.
Did anyone here have SPD while pregnant? How are you feeling PP? I have been having intense pain/pressure in my pelvic bone since delivery - I actually felt like I was having contractions in my pelvic bone while in labor, it was extremely painful. I have pain when I sit/drive, rolling over in bed and even laying down. I went to see my chiropractor yesterday (who was doing adjustments while I was pregnant) and she thinks I sprained my symphysis pubis joint while in labor. She said basically it is going to take time to heal, but she can continue to do adjustments (as my pelvis is also misaligned) and ice. Just wondering how long it is going to take to get some relief from the pain!
@MDmomma1217 I've been having pelvic pain as well as excruciating hip and lower back pain PP. I just started seeing a chiropractor and he said it could be up to five months to get back to normal because it takes forever for the relaxin to leave your system after giving birth. But until then it's regular adjustments with massage.
@Heathereaddy Based on my experience, reflux is a real possibility and pretty treatable. Some babies have the acid only come up part way (called silent reflux), but it really irritates them. The mouth movements make perfect sense if she feels a burning creeping back up. Probably wants to swallow it back down or get it out. Hope it's nothing too serious and something you and the doctor can figure out soon!

Thanks! @whataboutscience I hope that's what it is also and my new mommy brain is just thinking the worst. I'm just so concerned after two episodes and DH's history of seizures and Camille having the sickle cell trait. It looked like a stroke to me but I know those are rare in babies.
Ladies with breech babies - the on-call pediatrician at the hospital after LO was born let us know that he suggests to anyone who delivers a breech baby to have a hip ultrasound done just to be sure there aren't any issues. He checked her a few times and said everything felt and looked normal, hip and leg-wise. I mentioned it to my pediatrician and she said if it's something I'd like to do, then I can, just because issues are easier to correct now than later when she starts walking. I haven't noticed any issues myself, she moves her legs very well and without any problems. Has anyone had a hip ultrasound done? I need to call my insurance to see if this is even covered. It's done at a huge local children's hospital. Obviously I'd like to know that my child is healthy and has no issues, but at the same time, she doesn't appear to HAVE an issue to begin with and I'm just curious if it really is necessary or if anyone else has encountered this. Especially since she wasn't vaginally delivered, which I could totally see causing an issue vs. a C-section where there's a little more control over how she comes out.
@brandiK frank breech baby here! She was diagnosed with the hip issue and we had her ultrasound and first appt this past Wednesday. The issue isn't with the actual birth it's how their legs are in the womb. C's legs were always straight up and never bent like a traditional fetal position. Because of this the hip joints are loose and her legs can be moved to the point where they almost slip out. Fortunately the doctor wants to just keep an eye on it and gave us stretches to do with her to help the correct alignment. Also he told us not to swaddler her anymore.
If your doctor didn't seemed concern i would say do it only if you want to. The very first time C saw the pediatrician they told us to make an appt asap.

@brandiK I was actually born with that hip problem (congenital hip dysplasia). I had to wear a harness for three months. So my son was not breech but because of my history they are still recommending that he has the ultrasound to be on the safe side. They said around six weeks was when they would want to do it so we need to schedule it soon actually.
@stellaluna14 My chiro is recommending weekly appts for now due to the pelvic pain, but thankfully my sciatica symptoms cleared up. Hopefully with time your hips and back start to feel better!
@DeriveMyPi and @stellaluna14 thank you both! Mine was at least footling breech, so she had her legs bent correctly for the most part. But you never know. I'll at least give my insurance a call and see what all is covered. I'd hate to realize there was some issue when she is trying to start walking.
So we've noticed LO's umbilical cord really smells bad. Looks and feels dry, no oozing or anything. Normal? I don't remember this stink with DD. He is 8 days old now. He has peed on his shirt/stump a few times...
@whataboutscience my LO's stump was smelly for a few days right before it fell off. Ped said it was healing great and looks completely normal when we saw him a few days later.
