Re: July Randoms Thread

  • @JennM205 - oof, I was hoping it would be closer to home for you. 93 and humid, since I'm a wimpy Mainer, sounds absolutely brutal.  I am into staying as busy as possible, so I'd probably still go just to make the day pass but it could be really miserable.. that's a tough one.  Obviously you're not a bridesmaid, just offered their dressing room?  Hmmm, is it tacky to bring a portable little fan and mist yourself the whole time like a kid at Disneyworld? hahaha.  I'd probably go, but complain through a lot of it.  Would Evie be going?  Lugging around a hot, sweaty (and possibly overheated and cranky) toddler would definitely NOT be fun!

  • @JennM205 - I  know you said 2 hours is too far away to make it a "drop by thing" but I'd still probably just try to go to the ceremony and then bounce if it feels too hot to stay for the reception. I love weddings, though, and really try to be at every single person's wedding who is important to me, so for me a two hour drive one way isn't an insurmountable hurdle for a 20 minute ceremony. I'm probably the weirdo for thinking that way though!

Is there anything else in the area that can make the wedding worth going to, even if it's just for the ceremony?
  • RedMarRedMar member
@JennM205 we also have a wedding to go to that's over 2 hours away. We will most likely skip the ceremony as its not air conditioned (hot church) and only attend the reception. No shame here!!!

My rant of the day is when it rains, it pours (financially). We found out yesterday that DH will need to put $300+ into his car and we need to fix a portion of our tenant's ceiling which will be $500. Also we have upcoming weddings that are going to cost a lot for gifts and accommodations. I can think of so many other ways to spend over a grand  :/

@PoodleDoodleOoo - Yuck. I'm sorry it's been rough for your DH. Some friends of mine were saying those storms were pretty nasty in areas. Hopefully he gets to enjoy more of the activities than he is currently thinking he will!

@JennM205 - I personally would skip it. But that's just me. I have a very hard time dealing with the heat. And knowing that it's going to be so hot and that there's very little air conditioning wouldn't make me feel great. If it were closer, I'd say just go for the ceremony and then bow out. But that's quite a drive for only the ceremony IMO.

@RedMar - That really stinks and I'm sorry to hear that. Thinking of you guys!

ETA - @camichael84 - I definitely ended up laughing! I just couldn't believe that my pregnancy brain actually had kicked in that quickly after my BFP and I didn't even know it until now! lol

@JennM205 just thought of this... Maybe just attend the ceremony and hit up some air-conditioned shopping nearby?? Are there any cool outlets/stores around?? I am trying to make the most of your 2 hour drive :)
  • @MrsVoorhees - Stop it! That's the grossest thing I've seen today!  :s

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo I am having the same problem trying to pee in the cup. Too much in the way, hard to handle everything and see what you're doing at the same time.

@JennM205 I would send a nice gift in my stead and sit the wedding out, personally. I feel like with the heat people will understand.

I totally forgot my own random today... last night/ this morning around 4:45 I heard a hissing noise in my wall (like a burst water hose, maybe), loud enough to wake me up, causing me to yell loud enough to wake my husband up. A few seconds later our smoke/ CO/ natural gas detectors started going off. DH ran to grab a fire extinguisher and ran all over the house looking for smoke or fire in his underwear, which was entertaining but fruitless. We ruled out fire or gas as best we could, so I spent at least an hour worrying about carbon monoxide poisoning before just going to sleep in a better ventilated area until my alarm went off. I still have no idea what it was. I think I would actually feel a lot better if my detectors detected less things, so I could at least know what I was afraid of.
  • @MojieJo That's great your boys are superstars!! Definitely relish in that. I have to have NSTs until I deliver too even though it's just one little dude. And he's not the best at those tests! Once I had to do one twice (because there was some strange action apparently) and then my fluid was low so they monitored me an extra half an hour. Not fun and totally boring. I also find it so hard to get comfortable!
  • @jas1982 That would freak me out!! I would have called the fire department so they could do a check. We've done it before and they were super cool about it and said it was no problem at all. DH's uncle died from carbon monoxide poisoning while he slept so I am extremely paranoid about that!! Call if it happens again! Or it could just be the battery needing to be replaced. I hate those dumb false alarms. But I guess better false than real? LOL
  • @mom2adoodle Boo to having to repeat the NST!  I'm glad everything ended up okay, though!

I need to figure out some way to kill the boredom while I'm sitting there.  I'd play games on my phone, but I don't want to move too much and disrupt the monitors.  Blah.

On the plus side, it was the longest (by far) that I've gotten to listen to their heartbeats.  So that was nice.

  • @MojieJo Yeah :) The heart beats are so cute/ My hospital has several NSTs going on at the same time so it's just a bunch of heart beats inundating the room haha. It's kind of cool to think it's all tiny babies living and growing. I usually go on the TB the best I can (it's hard while lying on your side) and thinking of bringing a magazine with me next time. They make the beds so awkward for my tests! It's padded but only in certain areas so it's impossible to relax for me.
  • @mom2adoodle They did mine on the ultrasound exam table in a private room, with me sitting up partway.

It must be loud with multiple machines going at once!  DH was amazed by how loud mine was, although I'm sure it would've been quieter if there weren't two heartbeats going at once.

  • @jas1982 I second PP and recommend calling the Fire Dept. Hell, if it were me, I'd still call today, tell them what happened and see if they think they should have someone drop by. Better to be safe!

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom @mom2adoodle I thought about it, but we have a second carbon monoxide detector right next to the smoke etc detector that went off, and it was at 0. I might call anyway, especially if I can't figure out what caused the noise in the first place. I am terrified of carbon monoxide poisoning, hence the redundant detection devices. Seems crazy that something so undetectable could kill you.

    @RG1 WHAT ARE THOSE
  • @jennm205 If I were a bride, and received an RSVP "yes" to a wedding in July and then a guest backed out at the last minute because it's hot out in July, I would be pissed. You knew you were pregnant, you knew the wedding was in July, you know what the weather in July is like. I would perceive it as a flimsy excuse to miss the most important day of my life. I think you should at least show my your face at the reception, where the couple has already paid for your specific attendance.

And if you do decide to use the hot weather as an excuse to completely back out, I think it would be gracious of you to offer to pay for your meal.

@camichael84 I am moving at a snails pace as well. If this was where I was last time at 33 weeks (with close to nothing done), I would be flipping my shit. I'm glad DH is paying for someone to do the ceiling in our rental or else that project would take him days/weeks. He's finally showing interest in putting her room together, hope nothing distracts him in the meantime!

@JennM205 how formal is this wedding? If it is something she paid for plate by plate, then I would say go to the reception for a bit and skip the ceremony. If it's catered by Moes and more laid back, than maybe it's not such a big deal to Venmo your cousin money so you don't pass out in a barn! I've committed to 2 formal weddings this summer that I'm sorta regretting but the silver lining is that I have a hotel room to resort to if I need to rest. You unfortunately don't have this as an option, or could you find a place last min?? As I said before, I would make a mini trip/vacay out of the ordeal and maybe even do an overnight somewhere. 2 hours away from home is like 25 hours pregnant time. This way you'll have a local place to crash and not a long car ride home! Also, is someone around to help with DD?? Is she allowed to go?

@JennM205 oh good I'm glad you're taking E... It sounds like you're going to make the best of it- way to go mama!!
  • I feel pretty productive lately in spite of being tired all the damn time:

One more little load of laundry to do and all the boys' clothes will be washed and put away.  Then we just need to finish up with things like towels, a handful of blankets, a few more burp cloths and some odds and ends and everything will be washed!  Well, except for the cloth diapers, but since we're not using them immediately, it's not a big priority and may get put off for a month or two.

The nursery is done other than new blinds (which we still need to go buy), removing the folding closet doors, hanging a couple of pieces of artwork (a squirrel print above the cribs and a really cool 3-D metal fox head above the changing table), putting sheets on the mattresses and pulling out the last couple of non-baby things that are being stored in there.

The dresser is stuffed full!  I didn't think we had that much stuff to go in there.  Apparently I was wrong.  We're not hanging anything in the closet for now (too much trouble to get tiny little onesies and sleepers on hangers), so everything is going in the drawers.  Three drawers full of clothes (one newborn, two 0-3 months), one of swaddles, one of blankets of various types and one for medicines and odds and ends like nail clippers (which will be replaced by the cloth diapers).  The middle of the dresser (sort of a mini-armoire/cabinet thing) will be full of bottles and formula.

We still need to get the stroller set up with the car seat adapters, put up the pack n play, wash and put away bottles and get the carseats installed, but we may wait until the babies are born to do that since we're putting them in DH's Outback for now and he tends to go out to lunch with his coworkers, so he needs the back seat space for as long as possible.

When I type it out, it sounds like we've got so much left to do, but compared to what I've gotten done, it's practically nothing!

  • E and I went on a dinner date to Panera and for soft serve ice cream. He didn't want the food, had a pouch I brought with me instead and some of his apple. Oy, but he was in a fantastic mood and chatted up me and everyone else willing to look his way in the restaurant. Love my little socialite but still wishing he was a consistently fantastic eater :)

@PSUBecky23 I forgot how much they hurt! I had them put it in my left arm because if I hold DD it's with my right arm. I forgot I sleep on that side and it was miserable for a couple of days.

I couldn't decide. I'm left handed and sleep on my left side but hold Reese with my right. I decided to go right in the hopes I could reason with Reese (ha) and not have to hold her too much this weekend.

  • I must be some sort of SS because everyone keeps mentioning how the tDAP hurts and I didn't even notice it afterwards.

In regards to fall clothes - GAP just released the start of their fall wardrobe.  I just bought a bunch of shirts for DS1 figuring the last thing I'm going to want to have to worry about when we need it is actually going shopping.  I'll probably need to pick up a few more shirts here and there, but ultimately his fall wardrobe is complete.  I usually buy as much as I can on clearance for the upcoming year so he is already good to go on bottoms and sweatshirts.  DS2, well that's a whole other story.  I need to get out DS1's baby clothes.  Their seasons don't match but I'm hoping I have enough to work with without having to buy much else (I'm sure I had long sleeved stuff and obviously sleepers are long sleeved with footies).

There was something else I wanted to comment on, but I forget.  This weekend's mission is to work on the baby's room, finally, by cleaning it out and starting to switch over the furniture (guest room furniture going into DS1's room, baby furniture going into what was the guest room!)  Here's hoping we're productive, or at least as productive as we can be with a 2 yo running around!
