The previous mention of support belts is funny because that's pretty much exactly to what I was coming here to talk about!
I've been feeling totally awful today. Exhausted and uncomfortable. My belly has been tight all day long, but there are still squishy spots so I know it's not a constant contraction - it's just baby position. I've done cat/cow to try to get him to move somewhere else but whatever position he's in right now, he's totally lovin' it.
I'm washing all of my (3 pairs) of maternity shorts so I had to go for a dress today and it's been SO UNCOMFORTABLE with my belly just hanging out there. Finally, I remembered that I had two belly bands. I bought them early on in pregnancy to wear with my regular shorts but they were SO UNCOMFORTABLE and I basically threw them in the back of my closet.
In desperation I dug one out today and pulled it on, hoping it would give me some extra support. INSTANT RELIEF! OMGeez. It's amazing. I don't think I'll stop wearing this thing anytime soon. I feel tons better.
Hmmm...The Bump News section has an article on store-bought food being better for Baby than homemade. We registered for a Baeba Babycook Pro. Expensive? Yes, but completely worth it if we actually use it! That being said, as a soon-to-be working mom, I would definitely prefer the convenience of store-bought food over making it myself, but I always assumed homemade is way better for baby. Anyone know of any other research on this?
@MrsVoorhees it's not Pepper Jack, but a good Horseradish Cheddar has a nice kick to it if you like the flavor. I think Boars Head makes a good one (last time I bought it was before I was pregnant, however - so I could be wrong!) Either way - you gotta check the label to make sure it's not flavored artificially - otherwise it's not nearly as good.
@AnnaS930 RE: Tim Hortons. They closed all the Maine stores and a good deal of all the stores Syracuse and East here in New York as well. They had a new company buy them out and that company put in a new policy on stores from Ohio to Maine that they had to meet certain levels. Apparently there was only one or two across the Syracuse border line that cut it so they just closed all of them as the one or two wouldn't be worth the price to ship goods their way. It was a huge thing here when they went through and shut everything down as they gave no notice to anyone...the employees or the franchise owners. They just walked in, locked the doors, and told all the employees to leave.
@Sbrown721 I cannot for the life of me fathom how mass produced processed food would be better than homemade food. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it and it's perfectly safe (and there are many brands that are purely vegetable/fruit and water) but if you have plans to make it yourself, then go for it. I made the majority of my daughter's food just using the food processor that I already had. Hoping this time to just do baby led weaning.
Just read the article - confused because food before one is just for fun and the majority of baby's nutrition until age one is still supposed to come from breastmilk/formula, so I don't get why the nutritional standards matter.
@Sbrown721 I have no idea why store bought would be better than homemade. I've done homemade almost exclusively and it's super easy. I'm so so not a 'homemade' type person, but I tried a few things at the beginning and never stopped. I did a combo of BLW and purées. I still make different mixtures and freeze them in ice cube trays because she's now refusing most meat and veggies, so I have to hide it. I like know exactly what goes in it. though I will add that most brands are just the fruit and veggies, no additives.
@PSUBecky23 I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused by the article. I haven't had a chance to go researching elsewhere on this matter...homemade definitely seems to be the healthier way to go.
The floor is done! I still need to look into putting a clear coat on it, but this is the concrete after 2 coats of purple sparkles. It looks so obnoxious right now, but I think I like it! I'm hoping with furniture and a rug it will calm it down a bit...
@Sbrown721 - Agreed with @PSUBecky23 - I made a good portion of my son's food (though store bought pouches were also amazing for traveling and quick/easy/CLEAN foods as well). I really enjoyed making baby food, and because it was just for fun I wasn't too worried about veggies losing nutrients, etc (If that's their concern) it was more about introducing textures/flavors to his little palate. We also mixed in a bit of baby led weaning in that we gave him some larger chunks of things along with some purees and just winged it. If you want to make food, definitely do it. A few vegetables makes lots of servings, I was able to make up a week or two of food during a morning baby nap on a Saturday or Sunday.
@LakeR2014 - That's really too bad about TimHorton's, a few had closed in the past year, I didn't realize that the final closings were so sudden. In its place is my favorite local sub/pizza shop, so I wasn't terribly disappointed (also a Dunkin 1/4 mile away), but I do feel bad for those who were left unemployed!
@PSUBecky23 baby led weaning for the win! It's like a lazy mom's best friend.
In other news: I've totally become the cranky second time mom who gets annoyed with people that think they know everything and is all "just wait" to ftms that have it all planned out. I need to watch my mouth for reals.
I just looked at my August schedule. Outside of working 40 hours a week, I have birthing classes every Monday night, an infant CPR class, two breastfeeding classes, a meeting with the maternity care coordinator, two OB appointments and a baby shower. I don't know how I'm going to survive!!
AWWW!! My boss just came to my desk and asked me to join him in the conference room. When I walked into the conference room everyone at my work was sitting in there and my DH was sitting there with a birthday ice cream cake from Coldstone for my birthday!!! What a sweet (and delicious) surprise!
Why didn't my work get the memo that it's a day for ice cream in the office? A birthday cake and 2 people with ice cream bars?? Come on work, get on it.
@seitzy3 - I'm sorry, what?!?! I'm a little ragey today.....ok, everyday lately. But I seriously would have had to smack someone. Preferably the person touching my belly, but anyone close by would have sufficed at that point.
@seitzy3 That is really creepy, I don't know that I would have been able to handle that. Did they realize it was awkward at that point, or were they totally oblivious?
@Steephers123 nope. It started off as one hand then she went right with a two hander and did a little rub, or more like a jiggle thing? I don't know it was so freaking awkward I didn't know what to do. I sort of stepped back a little and luckily D was heading straight for the ocean so I just said I needed to catch up with her.
@seitzy3 EW! That's so off putting! I definitely would have said something rude mostly along the lines of "Please don't touch me."
What gives any person the courage to go up to a total stranger and touch them in a normally "off limits" touch zone just because they're pregnant? This baby is not public property! Nor is the tummy it's growing in. BACK OFF!
100% random but it's really frustrating when your kid has a basketball team of 8 or 9 kids and, almost every single practice (which is for one hour, one day a week), only half of the team shows up. Really? I know things come up at the last minute. But if you make a commitment, stick with it. All you're doing by not getting your kid to practice is punishing your kid (who isn't going to be prepared come game day) as well as the other kids on the team (who actually showed up and are prepared). So aggravating!
MIL bought us a Graco Pack and Play for the shower... and it came to the house... and I opened the door instead of DH... and I was like "What is this?!" and DH checked his phone and saw a text message from his mom that said "It arrives today! Don't let her see it!" TOO LATE MAMA! I freaked out because it was one of the items on our list that we didn't expect anyone to actually purchase for us, but we put it on there anyway because Amazon was being pushy.
I know I wasn't supposed to see it until the shower but I'm glad I did because now I have plenty of time to figure out how the hades I'm supposed to put this beast together. It came with no instructions and a bunch of different attachments and I'm over here thinking "I'm pregnant, Graco. My brain cells are exhausted and you expect me to figure this out on my own?!"
Anyway, happy AND frustrated. We called his Mom right away and I apologized for ruining the surprise by being the one to open the door but she was happy we got it! Unfortunately, because of the distance, she can't be at the shower so it was nice anyway to have a one-on-one thank you squeal fest.
My mom is an excited gift giver and sometimes she can't deal with the joy of it and will give gifts early, so I already have a shower gift from her too! Early gifts are awesome.
@UnwritteN12 I don't have any kids yet, but I coached girls softball a few years ago and wow, I was so off put by the parents who couldn't get their kids to the games and practices or show up on time. It was extremely frustrating planning a batting order and filling the field when someone didn't show up. At one point I actually had to give a letter to the parents requesting their kids be at the practices and be to the games 15 minutes before the game starts to ensure they had proper time to warm up before the game. I can't blame the kids since they were only 11-12 and can't drive, but why sign your kid up for something knowing you can never make it on time / you don't care to be there at all?! Ugh!
My random - we received our first gift off our registry from my DH's sister who lives across the country! We got a Graco Pack n Play that has the bassinet attachments! So happy! We also got a book The Grouchy Ladybug I think. Hehe. She said there's more to come! I'm overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. Just excited we are finally getting stuff for baby girl! We have quite the stockpile of diapers and wipes from our BabyQ on Sunday. I can't believe how much we got. Feeling really loved and blessed!
I finally found matching outfits for my girls! 24 months and 0-3 months. Pink hearts and bows aren't generally my thing, but I was jut happy to find something! Anybody have suggestions on where to get matching outfits? I would love to have a few to dress them up in, but most places don't carry the same outfit in such a wide range of sizes.
My pelvis popped so hard and so loud earlier when I tried to stand up that for a second I thought it was that "pop" women talk about hearing before their water breaks. I legit stood completely still for 5 minutes afraid to move.
I was looking for the same thing @drmh22 but I have a 2yo boy and a soon to be daughter (that is weird to say but so exciting!) anyone have any suggestions for this?
@RedMar I feel like Etsy is going to be our best option. I'm having a hard time for girls, I can't imagine that you'll have much luck for a boy and girl.

Ugh. I've got the heebie geebies now.
Sorry about the language but it's the first thing that came to mind.

edit: I'm also adding old navy to the list. They usually have the same clothes from 3 months to 4 years.
