I only have a newborn, no other children but it's so hard to make dinner and eat it. My husband works nights so I'm by myself at night and my LO loves to be held. I'm nervous wearing him while cooking though. I don't want to burn him or splatter him.
Yes. This. She can be completely asleep but as soon as she knows I'm getting close to eating, she loses her mind and either wants to be held or wants to eat herself. I've worn her a couple of times once the food is on the table. But the other day I was feeding her at the table and dropped sauce on her arm on its way to my mouth. Licked it off her arm. My husband just shook his head at me.
I've done this soo many times! LO wants to nurse at dinner all the time I just prop her on my lap with the boppy and put a clean napkin on her and keep eating too. She usually handsome crumbs I have to brush off haha
Tip: I couldn't nurse one handed because I have to support my boob with one hand and hold LO with the other. Then my cousin told me to put a rolled up receiving blanket under my boob to support it and I actually got to eat hot food at an appropriate time! Just wanted to share!
Someone please tell me why I thought 3 kids under 3 was a good idea... One of my daughters keeps throwing up everywhere, waking her sister up, so they both have to start screaming about going to bed every time we finish cleaning up. Then there is the baby, who has slept relatively well tonight, but the complete exhaustion compounded by the fact that I have a fever and chills is certainly not helping.

I got on here to complain about my night but after reading this I can't. Sorry just hang in there It will be so nice in a couple years.

Haha omg me too. But my nights are nothing compared to this. Hmm maybe I'll rethink going for 2 under 2. You got this @Tawny87!
Thanks guys! We made it! Baby is easy lol it's my 2 1/2 yr old daughters that make it crazy right now lol! Thankfully my hubby cleaned the barfed on car seat and car so I only had to throw the barf laundry in the wash and the barf kid in the bath lol.
Ummm... Anyone seen excessive milk come out baby nose?? Went to burp LO and when I lifted him upright it all came out...hmmm... And then he has been randomly smiling in his sleep. I guess no worse for the wear?

My baby does the facial expressions too. I love watching them!
My husband took 3wks of paternity leave when our son was born and though he felt like he wasn't useful/helpful (lies, he did so much), he really was wonderful to have around. He went back to work this week (my son is 4wks today) and since our son is a noisy sleeper from about 2am/3am until it's time to wake up, I have him spend the first half of the night in our room and the second half in the nursery. I also shifted from feeding in bed to feeding in the nursery because he is a noisy eater too. My husband insists that I don't need to do all of that on his behalf and that it just "comes with the territory" of having a newborn but I feels so bad knowing that his sleep is interrupted so often. At the same time, I miss having our son in our room the whole night (I'm a frequent breathing checker) and I loved the ease of feeding him while in bed.
Somewhat related...this week our nights have become better than our days, despite having to feed every 2hrs at night. My son turns into a screaming/crying banshee from about 12pm/1pm until bedtime (some evenings he is fine). Nothing I do seems to soothe him so it makes for a rough day. I look forward to the quiet of our nighttime routine.
I have been wanting to straighten my hair for awhile but have had no time/energy/free hand. Tonight while i was working from home and nursing baby, my sweet husband took a stab at it (he had drinks with dinner so thought it was a good idea). He actually did a great job and it was so relaxing! It was truly one of the kindest things he has done just to make me happy.
You know it's gonn be a long night when LO doesn't even make it till midnight for his first wake up. Whew this 6 week growth spurt is exhausting I'd give anything for a 3-4 hr stretch like she was doing. This has to be over soon

I'm right there with you. I could not get my LO to settle down tonight. Feeding like crazy and crying and will only sleep on me.

6 weeks also.
Exactly the same here, 6 weeks as well. He's been sleeping 930 till at least 2 but tonight he's up at midnight. I am exhausted and can barely keep my eyes open
I feel like I have night sweats?!?! I get so ridiculously hot in the middle of the night! It doesn't seem to matter what the temp in the room, I'm sweaty. This is worse than any time I was pregnant. Any one else hot as hell?

QBF
I do but I think it's cause our room is just the warmest.
Hoping our babies go back to normal after this 6 week growth spurt. Night sweats are common pp they are your bodies way of getting rid of all the fluid accumulated while pregnant. I've read somewhere they can last longer while breastfeeding mine were terrible the first month and at 6 weeks pp I still wake sweaty some nights just not soaked. The first 3 months pp are the 4th trimester for LO adjusting to the world and is getting our hormones back to somewhat normal.
I wake up drenched some nights. I thought it was poor temperature control in our apartment, but it would be nice if it means my body is getting back to bormal!
Somewhat related, is anyone else confused about how to dress the baby? Since I'm sweating, I'm afraid of her overheating, but I also feel like I'm not the best judge of temperature.

I was confused too at first cause I was so hot but I to remember to touch him on his head or chest and see if he feels warm.
I've been wondering about dressing him for bedtime too. We were doing light cotton footed pjs and then the halo sleep sack swaddle, but I worried that would make him too hot so tonight I just tried the sleep sack and he still feels pretty warm to me, but he's been up a ton and He's usually a very good night sleeper so maybe he is cold! Idk. Our room is usually 70/71°
Just read that on top of the 6 week growth spurt/sleep regression 6 weeks is the peak of fussiness. Hang in there we got this were in the hardest part!
Thank goodness for a nights sleep! My older kids have been waking up every night this week and yesterday I was so tired I was not not doing well. Last night I got all three kids in bed and asleep before 8:30, baby woke at 2:45am to eat, and they all got up for the day at 6am! Sleep is magical. I feel human again.
Ya'll..... I am pro tummy sleeping as on last night. He has reached his peak of fussing and grunting and I have in and did tummy sleeping. (See FFFC) lol. He has never slept better. First strech was about 5.5hours and he didn't grunt and squirm. Then slept another 3 then 2.5. of he did fuss or grunt it was for a few seconds and he pushed out his own burp or fart then fell asleep! When he got up he has been so happy smiling and just hanging out with us. NO CRYING!!!! I almost cried myself when I realized I woke up for his 5:30 feeding at 5:30 rather than an hour before when he was trying to push out a fart.

Both my boys slept on their tummies once they could roll over, I'd lay them on you're backs and they'd roll right over to their tummies. I'm happy you finally got some sleep and he woke up happy!
@adiaz132003 so your saying you love me? Haha I may be trying it at night soon too. They can just call us the bad moms
Yup, all love for you dear! We have an in bed cosleeper that has mesh walls and is a hard flat surface that sits between us in bed so any move he made I would hear. I was so shocked at how well he slept.
Well I got barely any sleep and I have to go to my sister's baby shower today. At least people will hold the baby , since there is a lot of people who haven't met him yet. It just sucks that it's an hour each way.

I was so hoping this would work for naptime yesterday Alas, it did not...I'll try again today if he gets super fussy, which he likely will, and can't seem to nap. Bedtime hasn't been an issue for us just yet, hopefully it stays that way! I'm still wondering if his afternoon/sometimes evening meltdown might be colic/purple crying.

Make sure arms are up by face and try patting his bottom till he calms down or falls asleep. Of course no all babies love their tummies but most are much more calm/happy in this position.
How often are your LOs awake? My son is just over a month old and I feel like he's always asleep unless he's eating. . He will be awake, eat and then go right to sleep until he's hungry again.

So I tried again and added patting his bum and after about 15mins, he fell asleep...or so I thought. The moment I left the room, he was awake and crying.

Yes!!!! I remember having this with my girls too. It takes a while for the hormones to regulate unfortunately : (

stUck in box
my guy is in the 5th week and has been so hungry/crabby this week, he is normally a really chill baby. This explains a lot!

Dd is 3 weeks 4 days, and just this week she has started being awake a lot more. She focuses on things now and follows them with her eyes. She grabs things and turns toward sounds. In the morning she is up for 1-2 hours before her first nap, but she sleeps a little more in the afternoon.
She was a bigger baby (almost 9lbs when born) and sleeps long periods at night. I don't know if that has to do with her having more awake time during the day or not, but I've noticed she is awake more than my friends kid of the same age.
My LO is awake about 1.5 hrs in the morning about 1.5 hours around lunch then she wants to sleep until like 5 pm. I wake her mid nap to nurse but can keep her awake. In total like 6 hrs of awake time over a 24 hrs period. She's 6 weeks.
My son is 4wks 1d. Until this past week, he would wake every 1.5-2hrs to feed and during the day stay awake for about 2hrs at around 10am and then do his first nap. During the afternoon he slept more than he was awake. As of this past monday, he is officially awake by 10/10:30am and doesn't sleep until maybe 7pm or sometimes as late as 9pm or 10pm. I try to put him down for naps throughout the afternoon but he would rather cry.
My LO is 5 weeks today and only in the past week or so has he started being awake a little more. The first few weeks of his life it seemed like he was only awake a few hours a day, except to eat between naps. Now he's starting to be awake for around 2-3 hours in the morning and 3-4 hours in the afternoon/evening. He likes to sleep the middle of the day away. Yesterday he took like a 6 hour nap, waking up a few times just long enough to eat and get a diaper change.
@vintagevix86 bummer! Hope you find a good way to soothe your LO soon.
Me too! I'll definitely keep trying the various soothing techniques. My aunt had a similar experience with a cousin suggested looking into Colief or Infacol as well. If it is colic, at least it's only temporary
So this is a random but the other day I had to take the whole crew to Costco, 4 yr old, 6 yr old, and the 6 week old. Well I wore my LO and then when the boys wanted in the cart I had to figure out how to do that since I couldn't lift them while wearing my LO. So they used the stacked cases of water to get into the cart and then when we were leaving they used the benches at the food court to get out. I feel like the more children you have the more creative you become!
