  • @Sbrown721 My mom brought me a subway sandwich when I went in to be induced with DS (checked in at 6pm and had totally forgotten to eat beforehand). I had asked my OB and he said something along the lines of "what I don't know won't hurt...but keep it light--no steak if you can manage" He's pretty laid back and I was so glad he was good with it!
  • Question! NBR but I didn't think it needed its own thread but
Do any of you shop at the warehouse stores like costco, sams club etc?
I'm considering a membership but I am wondering if its worth it. I can google all I want but I'd rather hear from real people lol

  • @Megan324 - we shop at Sams Club, but it doesn't replace our weekly groceries. I like to buy paper products (tons of paper towel, toilet paper, tissues, paper plates, etc) from there and also diapers.. the price is usually less than the name brands and the boxes have considerably more in them, especially as sizes go up.  We also buy some fruit/frozen products there and a few random items here and there.  I'm a big fan, but like I said - it doesn't replace other shopping, just takes care of one chunk of stuff.. housegoods pretty much, with a little food

And also the 6 pound bag of gummy bears that I ate over the past couple of months. That too.

  • @Megan324 I shop at costco, but have the membership through my job. I don't go there enough to make it worth it paying for my own membership, but it sure is nice to buy a giant bag of rice once in a while and have it last almost a year, or occasionally enjoy the bargain bulk deals on soap, detergent, etc...

  • @Megan324 We shop at Costco and love it!  There is an upfront membership cost (we have the "Executive" level-makes me feel fancy lol ;) ) but I believe you will get 2% back, and when we signed up were told that if we didn't make the cost of membership in cash back each year that our Costco would reimburse us the difference.  So far we haven't had to utilize that perk.  I love being able to go buy a ton of diapers, tp, paper towels, organic milk and know that it will last a while.  My DH doesn't like buying perishables there because there's only 3 of us and it usually goes bad before we finish it, but sometimes I go halfsies with my mom on that stuff and it's worth it.  I could probably go on about Costco for a while, I might have a slight addiction to shopping there.

Ladies.. it's bad news for the world of raw cookie dough today.  FDA warns that an e. coli outbreak has been linked to RAW FLOUR! wow, I never even considered such a thing.  So even those without eggs in the recipe are advised not to be consumed raw. Wah.

Also - not condemning anyone who continues to choose to eat raw cookie dough.. I still sample mine when it contains eggs so this most likely won't stop me - but I'm not happy about the news either!

  • @Steephers123 We just got a costco in my area, I think last year? but its about a 20 min drive away from me vs a 10 min drive to Sam's club. I think for distance reasons alone I'm going to go with Sam's club
But I did watch a little documentary on Costco and I was super impressed with their company.

So that will be my next decision.

  • @Megan324 - Sams club makes pretty delicious cakes. And other bakery items... for once baby is here, or if you redo that glucose test!

  • @AnnaS930  I find out tomorrow!
And I have heard that their cakes are amazing!

  • @Megan324 we use our SAMs club membership quite a bit and usually get a really good deal on items. Like PP said, it really doesn't replace weekly grocery shopping but for some items it is very good. I do caution that you can't get used to them having a same product in stock. There are many things that we would get there for years and then they suddenly stop carrying. Super annoying. They recently stopped stocking Tyson chicken strips and Taco Bell taco kits. Two staples in our house, I'm still bitter
  • @Megan324 - We've held memberships to both. And while Costco is about 5 minutes from our house and Sam's Club is closer to 20, we let our Costco membership lapse last year. I like Costco but noticed that they are more expensive than Sam's Club.

At one point I know you could do a one day guest membership for each place. Maybe call and see if they still do that so that you can compare the two?

  • We don't do Costco/Sams just because they're on the other side of town and seems like a big ordeal of a shopping trip to me....I do use it for work when we have parties and its great for that! I upgraded to Amazon prime this year and that's how I plan on stocking up on staples when baby comes....not as cheap for sure but EASY!
  • @AnnaS930 I actually had heard that raw flour in cookie dough was worse for you than the eggs years ago, before I was even pregnant for McKenna. Of course it came from some random person on a blog, and not the FDA. But this news isn't totally shocking to me due to that. FWIW, I would still be all over brownie batter if I didn't have the diabetes.

@UnwritteN12  I'm kind of late, but I just want to add my sentiments that I'm impressed with your ability to carry twins. And twice now! That you made it to nearly 38 weeks last time amazes me, and that you've got two healthy, thriving babies in there again blows my mind. I hope they can stay in as long as possible, but I know you'll be able to handle whatever comes your way. Also, the tech was rude. Considering u/s measurements can be off up to a pound, she should know to keep her mouth shut about size.

  • @UnwritteN12 great idea! Its my new plan for tomorrow :)

  • @Megan324 - I also like the huge warehouse stores like Sams/BJs/Costco for taking baby through. Carts are huge so carseat can easy fit in there along with some products, also.. it's a HUGE freaking store.. you're not stuck in tiny aisles with other customers.. if Emmett gets fussy we can usually get to a less crowded space to figure out what's going on.  Now that he's mobile if my husband and I both go, one of us usually lets him out of the cart so he can run wild. There aren't a ton of toys for him to freak out over and lots of open space. We went last night to restock our fridge/get ready for the babyq and it's always a good time.

I also, very strangely, love the smell of tires when I walk into the store. But that's probably not a selling point for all ;)

  • @AnnaS930 I imagine as the babies get bigger the samples would be awesome. just feed them snacks the entire time you're shopping!
  • Re Sam's Club/Costco. We've talked about joining, and I think it'll be worth it once the kids are bigger. I'm all about bulk buying. I also feel like I'd want to invest in a deep freezer before we do it. Our freezer gets cramped as it is.

  • Speaking of Costco, I have been trying to convince DH we need this Ninja blender/food processor (it's on sale through this weekend).  Does anyone have it?  Love it/hate it?   We "need" a food processor in general, and our blender is 10+ years old.

  • We have a Costco membership. We use it probably once a month. Stock up on paper goods mostly (paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, trash bags, sometimes cleaning supplies) it's also come in handy when having guests or hosting parties to buy in bulk. I'm not sure about other parts of the country, but here the produce and meat is exponentially better at Costco than at regular grocery stores. We try to stock up on our favorite produce too. It's too much to shop there weekly, but every couple weeks it's nice to get some big ol tubs of fresh fruit.

Officially hit the third tri today.. It was welcomed in my nausea and frequent trips to the bathroom last night. Haven't experienced that since about 16 weeks... Hope it's just a random thing and not something to look forward to the next 12 weeks. Sigh...

Use it every day it's awesome
  • @Steephers123 I have the Ninja blender only. I LOVE it, and cannot rave about it enough. It and my kitchenaide mixer are the best kitchen investments that I've ever made. I made all of DD's baby food in the blender, and it was so smooth. Smoothies are the perfect consistency. I've used it to crush up a whole bag of Oreos to make Oreo balls. It's just amazing. I don't feel like I miss the food processor attachment, but if you can get a good deal on it, I'd go for it.

  • @Steephers123 I LOVE IT. It's the best as PP have mentioned.
    Definitely buy it!!

@UnwritteN12 so sorry about that a-hole tech. How insensitive! You are doing a great job momma! Hope those babies keep cooking!!!
  • @Steephers123 i have heard SO many great things about that Ninja system. my aunt swears by it so much that my mom just bought one.

This is exactly why I finally stopped heating up my lunch meat. Every time I see e coli or listeria its on veggies, fruit, or pretty much anything else. I get my meat from a reputable deli fresh cut to limit the contamination risk
Yes! I'm so sick of being paranoid about every little thing. We all got food poisoning during my first tri from eating at a Mexican restaurant. You can get food poisoning from ANYTHING. I'm not going to stop eating at restaurants. If I want to eat a cold lunch meat sandwich then I'm going to.
  • Wow. I just went to sign something and I was looking around for my pen. Realized it's still in my pen organizer on my desk. Which means I haven't used it all day...very productive morning I guess.
  • I'm about to lose my damn mind.

We've been having our whole house painted and it's been a never-ending string of problems (plaster in the brand new carpets, delays, not wanting to buy/use the paint I asked for for the nursery accent wall, master bathroom needs another coat of paint because there are big blotchy streaks, purple paint on the nursery closet doors, paint cans left open on the floor during lunch breaks where our cats can get into them, leaving lights burning all over the house when they leave and not telling us, etc.), but I'm at my wits end today.

I wake up today from a nap and find a note on the table from the painters saying they left at noon (after arriving at nine) because there was no room to work (?!).  They didn't even try to move our dining room table into our attached living room to paint in there.  They did paint the living room, but that's it.  They also left paint drips all over our new faux hardwood floors that I had to get down on hands and knees and scrape/buff off as best I could (I'm already having horrible knee pain on top of being very pregnant with twins).  Oh, and they got paint on the wood trim around the basement door (yesterday they did the same, among other issues, with our master bathroom door...and they used the toilet in the master bath and didn't flush :confounded:).

I think they also used the kitchen sink to clean their brushes, after being told multiple times to wash them at the faucet in the backyard.  I have no proof they did (I didn't see paint in the sink), but there were paint drips on the floor in front of the sink.  They didn't do anything in the kitchen today, so there shouldn't be paint in there at all.

This also means they'll be here working until at least Wednesday now.  They were supposed to be done Friday and it keeps getting pushed back because their "four man crew" is actually a two man crew and they take long lunch breaks and leave early.

This is ridiculous.  I'm trying so hard to be patient, but not only are they being sloppy and careless, but we can't even start on the nursery furniture and getting set up for the babies until they're done. :rage:

  • @sbrown721 @psubecky23 It's definitely coming to that.  We're at our wits end and these were supposed to be some of the best painters in our area.

The tricky part is that my parents are paying them and chose/booked them, so everything goes through them.  At first my dad was saying I was being too nitpicky, but I think he's starting to realize just how bad things are getting.  It started out slow and has progressively ramped up every day since they started.

  • @MojieJo yup fire them! There are tons of other painters that will do a great job. I had one man do my master bathrooms floor, ceiling, walls and trim plus a guest room walls and trim in a day and a half.

You can just say you are not impressed with the work they have done so far and will no longer need their services

  • @MojieJo That all sounds completely unprofessional and frustrating. The fact that they're leaving drips of paint on your carpet and trim is horrible. My thoughts would be if I wanted that, I would have just done it myself (actually, we've never gotten paint on the carpets when we've painted). Do they have a superior you can complain to? At the very least, I think it's worth leaving a negative Yelp review or something.
