Re: June Randoms Thread

  • Well, my car wouldn't start this morning. So that was fun. Especially because I was headed to work. Luckily my mom is letting me use her Prius- and wants to give it to us. It does need a catalytic converter in order to pass inspection, tires (the ones from my car might fit though), brakes and an oil change- but at least it freaking starts. All my mom wants is whatever we can get for my car- which probably won't be much. I had to deal with DH pitching a total fit because he just isn't handling stress well lately. *sigh* We're lucky we are able to get another car that quickly, easily, and so cheap, and he was only seeing negatives.

@SarahDarah333 @RG1 Team Prius over here!! Love that car so much. Sorry that your DH is being a negative nancy about it but he'll come around once he gets over the initial annoyance of the dying/dead car. Honestly I love our Prius so much we might get another one!
  • We are struggling with a middle name...I might post on the baby name board but thought I would ask my girls here first.

first name will be Claire, last name is Meryl, but spelled differently ;). I'm having a hard time because I don't want her name to have sounded better with Claire as the middle, and I feel like most do. I love Claire Elise and we both kind of like Claire Ivy, but I feel like Ivy Claire would sound better.
  • @MrsVoorhees Love Claire Elise! Think it sounds great with your last name too.

@MrsVoorhees I also like Claire Elise!

@KimmySchmidt Not to be a downer, but since you asked I LOVE Nina, but not with the middle Fay if you are planning on saying them together. Both names are great though!!

@Themaritimemama YES!!! Me too!! We are pairing it with middle name David (for my dad).

    Edited for clarity.

  • @SLou24  & @RG1 Thanks! We took the Prius out when we ran errands today so we can get used to it. Hopefully we can get my car to start so we can sell it, and be done. DH and I will be swapping cars when the baby comes anyway- he's driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and he has a 45 minute one way commute 5 days per week, my commute is about 5 miles lol! After driving it today though I think he will want to swap sooner- he seems to really like it :)

@KimmySchmidt I also really like Nina but my first thought was Tina Fey when I read Nina with Fay. Maybe Tina Fey will fade in popularity? Lol. Also, I don't know about you, but I rarely say my first and middle name together. So it could be doable! Do you think it's all youll think about whenever you say the names together?

  • Anyone else have one of those weekends where it was sooo busy that your wondering where it went?   We literally (I use this term correctly here) had every hour of the weekend planned starting at 6:30 on Friday night and do to other plans this week will continue until this Friday.   I'm feeling like I've been on a double shift schedule since last Monday and won't end until Friday.  <This post is my self-hosted pity party so I can keep it together this week.>   I'm ready for a time-out!!!   Can we go back to preschool and have mandated nap time?
  • @LakeR2014- Ours wasn't incredibly busy, but we headed out Friday at 6pm, and got home last night around 5pm. I feel a little lost being at work this morning. We always do groceries over the weekend, so I had to scrounge up a lunch to take in, and didn't do my usual housework... I need a weekend from my weekend...

  • I am debating what I should do for my husband for father's day. The 2 ideas I have are to either (1) hire a lawn service for the rest of the summer or (2) do a hiking day trip to a state park a couple hours away.  I should at least get a price quote from a lawn service...

  • @marajay6 - my husband is a big hiker, I love the idea of the day trip!
My husband is also big into golf this year. Dick's Sporting Goods had a great deal of free personalization on golf balls, so I ordered a dozen saying "Best Dad Ever, Happy Fathers Day, Love Emmett"  Gotta come up with one other small thing to do, and will definitely be making him a nice big breakfast/brunch on the day!

  • @LakeR2014 I was planning on complaining about my busy weekends as my random this morning, so I'm with you.

I love our families, but all last weekend was dedicated to DH's family put of town. This weekend, MIL and FIL came over Saturday and Sunday my grandparents had a celebration for their 62nd anniversary. I'm glad to have them all and see them, but I just want a whole weekend to get things done with the nursery! (We had lots of fun this weekend, so I feel bad complaining...)

We did manage to get more done this weekend, but I didn't think it was going to happen. New closet system bought, old closet shelves are out and nail holes patched, DH installed the lights on the ceiling fan, and paint color is decided. McKenna and I are making a trip to Lowe's today to get the paint and painting accessories we need. DH is going to paint the closet tonight and then, hopefully, install the new closet system tomorrow! Next step is painting the whole room (hopefully will be done by the end of next weekend) then getting carpet installed. I feel like we are making progress on this nursery for the first time!

  • I'm thinking I need to kick my butt into higher gear on the nursery. Last time at my shower I had the nursery done and everyone oohed and aahed. We're having our backyard Baby-Q in 3 weeks, so although I have 12 weeks (ish) until baby gets here, I'd like the nursery mostly put together when we have so many people over who want to take a peek. Time to get crafting!

We have an annual summer BBQ where we invite everyone we know. It's August 6 so I've got time but I've literally done nothing. And literally is also being used correctly here.

  • First of all, we are almost halfway through June. What. The. Hell.

Second, I agreed to do a voiceover for a training my company is sending out to all employees...just got the script...it's a freaking book. And I can't breathe and my mouth is creating excessive saliva,  so this will be fun!

@AnnaS930 That was my motivation for getting the nursery done! We are hosting a retirement party at our place for my MIL and the whole family on my husbands side will be coming and camping in the backyard. I thought of how fun it would be to be able to show off the nursery, so that kicked my butt in gear!

Weren't we all just talking about it being May? How is this possible!?

  • @RG1- They'll love it. I think everyone at my last shower asked if they could see the nursery. I stopped having to give directions to it because there was a constant stream of people in and out of there for the first 15 minutes or so.  Luckily we have the room painted and crib/dresser assembled (changing table and glider will remain in my 1.5 year old's room for another couple months), but I'd still like to have things just a bit more done.  Not sure if I'll find the lamp/area rug that I want in the next few weeks, but can hopefully make a few wall hangings and throw pillows.

  • Additional randomness for today:  To go along with my crazy weekend I also got my first case of ahtlete's foot ever.   Anyone know of a safe OTC to use to make it go away or a tried and true home remedy?  Any particular remedies to stay away from?   For those of you who have had it before - I am so sorry!!!   It doesn't bother me most of the time except at night, but then it's like an all out itch/burn and I'm like why do you hate me toes, why!!!
  • I too feel like this weekend slipped away.... And June.

    @Megan324 so sweet!!

@LakeR2014 that sucks, and I have no remedy for you. My toes always get itchy in the summer for no reason, so I can relate!

I have my son's 5th birthday party this weekend, and it's a Lego theme. I was all excited about it, but now I realize how much I have to do this week! Gah.

  • I am registered at Babies R Us, Target and Buy Buy Baby. The majority of my stuff is at Babies R Us. The baby shower invitations were just sent out without checking with me. They put that I am registered at Target and Buy Buy Baby. Sooo now I get to go figure out how to get everything from BRU over to Target and Buy Buy Baby! So frustrating because a lot of items are not available at other stores.

I decided yesterday to return the crib and dresser we bought for the baby's room and instead use 1.0's furniture again. We only have 3 bedrooms and the baby's room is our current guest room with a queen bed. DS1's crib concerts to a full size bed. So it would require a new mattress set, finding something to do with the queen set that is still in really good shape, painting part of the nursery because we bought gray furniture and I didn't want gray on a tan wall. So ultimately we save money on not needing another crib/dresser or bed, time and money on not needing to paint (DS1 has wood furniture) and only need to buy a dresser for DS1'S room. If we end up having a third, DS1 and 2 would likely bunk up, and then we could use the nursery furniture in the nursery, too. So ultimately it makes sense but I feel guilty because we bought this furniture to be DS1'S furniture from now til he graduates and we're just taking it away. So stupid, I know, but hormones! Thanks for reading my ridiculous novel :)

  • @lovelylauren86 I feel your pain!  BIL has been doing this ketogenesis diet recently, and now DH wants to start. It's like Atkins on steroids...5% carbs, 75% fats, 20% protein. It means totally changing everything about how we eat, which isn't necessarily bad, but it's also not recommended you start during pregnancy. I don't know how we'll maintain two different eating styles at once, plus his will involve a decent amount of pseudo-fasting...can't wait.

I hate seeing new doctors. You never know if you're going to jive with a new doctor. I haven't seen a family practice doctor since we moved here (everything seems to get covered between the endo and the OB) and now I'm finding myself having to see one on the fly. My fault? Absolutely. But I had to bite the bullet and make an appointment with a random doctor to get the first appointment available to get the pain in my side checked out. Ugh. Here's hoping 1) I like the doctor and 2) this pain is nothing serious.

  • RE: It being mid-June already...I realized over the weekend that I will be 37 weeks on Aug 11...which is now less than two months away!  I keep telling myself (and everyone else) that I've got three months left.  But, the reality is that it's probably closer to two than three at this point!  (Gulp.)

Nursery progress - DH finished construction last weekend (yay), so this weekend I started organizing DD's baby clothes!  I've been dying to do so because all of our "storage" baby stuff has been taking up space in my bedroom ever since DH started working on the nursery and I was getting sick of looking at it.  So I organized four bins of clothes, separated out everything that is NB through 6 months and already started washing and putting it all away.  I'm feeling a little crazy for doing all of that so soon (is it all just going to sit and get dusty over the next few months?) but it's also awesome to start checking that off the list (and seeing my bedroom floor again!)

  • @diagonalley- I feel the same way about things of Emmett's that we are re-using for baby boy #2.. we are moving the glider and changing table over, and even though we haven't used the glider in 6 months (when we stopped doing bottles) I have a hard time taking it out of his room.  The nursery is next door to his room, if he needed to be rocked during the night I could easily walk him over to the nursery, I just haven't bit the bullet yet on removing it from his room.

It's a glider. I can forgive myself for a few outfits I want to keep as Emmett's, and stuffed animals, etc. But a glider.. oy.

  • @Megan324 you got this, there are lots of sugar free options these days. :)

@LakeR2014 Y.I. cream... lol its the same stuff just different area. isnt the other stuff, lamosil or something. i think those are ok. obviously im no doctor, but i dont think it should hurt.
  • @Megan324 - that's fantastic!  I wish we had a Sonic so bad (closest is a couple hours away.. I don't think they do the best in New England because of the weather factor for bringing food out to cars). But that sounds like a really really good sweet treat, and I know it's what you were craving! Booyea!
