We dont close on our new house until June 8th so we can't even start prepping until then. It's driving my planning brain BONKERS.
I'm with you on that, we're moving from Texas to Virginia at the beginning of July, and will rent, so I have no idea what type of room for the baby we'll end up with. We have pretty much picked out what furniture we want, so it will just be a matter of ordering it when we know where we'll live. I had been set on a woodland theme for decor, but have recently switched to nautical/whales/other sea animals. We won't know the sex until early June, so I figure I can do mainly navy blue/white and then add pink if it's a girl and green if it's a boy for accent colors. I wish I could start getting it ready NOW!
We are in the process of building a house and it won't be finished til October.. IF it gets done on time. I part of me is glad I have to wait to decorate so at least I know I won't have time to go overboard.
I bought the nursery bedding and valances a while ago, because they were being discontinued. But we're getting hand-me-down furniture from a friend whose three-year-old is ready for a big boy bed. She wants us to get the room looking ready for baby before her son visits the room so he can see that his beloved furniture is going to a good home. It's currently my office, which we'll need to relocate to other rooms in our very small townhouse. I just don't know when that's gonna happen.
We've just purchased kitchen cabinets for a kitchen remodel, and our entire basement is boxes of cabinets that I need to put together. We still have to take everything out of the kitchen, pack it up and put it in the dining room so hubby can do the demo on the kitchen. Then I have to install the flooring... ugh. We don't have time for making up a nursery, especially when the baby won't use it for probably the first six months.
Woohoo, DH put together the dresser for the nursery yesterday! We finally have something besides an empty room! Unfortunately for financial reasons we will need to wait a month or two before we buy the rug, crib, and glider, and other decor. I'm so excited to just see the whole thing put together that its hard to just be practical.
Here's an example of the dresser we got (not the actual dresser, we don't have any cute decor yet!). We plan on using it for diaper changing as well.
@Blonde1817 & @kmvisioli - I was thinking about ordering the Hemnes dresser, as well, but I have a question. On the website, the dresser comes in "white" and "white satin." Which one is a true white? By the looks of it, white satin is white, but since you guys already have one, I thought I'd ask to be sure. TIA!

I'm thinking of ordering it as well and would love to know the answer to this!
We are currently using our second bedroom/nursery as storage since we moved in last month. My mom thankfully said she and my dad will buy some baby furniture (yesyesyesthankyouomg), so I'm figuring out what we'd like in the room and how it will look. I'm going to try and tackle cleaning the room this weekend (who know how that will go. I've also committed to helping my parents clean out their garage).
Our theme is "starry night," with a lot of dark blue, white, and grey, and star/constellation motifs. But in an effort to keep it from being too matchy-matchy, I'm ordering non-space/star related artwork.
@CopperBoom86 and @AgentCarter the "white" is true white finish with a very little gloss to it, while the other is "White Stain" (not white satin) and is basically a whitewashed wood, where you see the chalky white finish over wood grain.

@CopperBoom86@AgentCarter We ended up getting the white stain. It's more of a bright white whereas "white" is more off white. The "white" is smooth and a little glossy and the "white stain" has a more rustic look. It's more matte and you can see the wood grain. I chose the white stain because I think it will (hopefully) match better with the crib we ordered online (that we couldn't see in person). I agonized over it and did a lot of googling to try to figure it out lol. Ultimately I just liked the white stain better, I hope it matches!
@Blonde1817@AgentCarter@CopperBoom86 yes, the White is a little on the soft-white rather than bright-white side, but it matches most other "white" furniture (we have a PBKids crib and a cubby storage system from Home Depot that match exactly). In person, I thought the white stain looked a little bit dull/grey just because it is sort of a chalky whitewash finish. I think if you are hoping for a more rustic look and including other wood touches in your room, the stain option is nice. If you are trying to match other "White" furniture I would stick with the plain White. Hope that is helpful!
Since the roof is FINALLY going on the house I feel like I can dream a little!
I've decided on a loose safari theme for the little one(s) bedroom. Fitting since we're in safari capital of Africa. It will be the easiest to get stuff for and I already have my eye on this that I'm going to be making.
@Julia70286 - I'm so jealous of your Offer Up find! That dresser is awesome! I've been stalking my area religiously, but have yet to find any must have deals.
@CopperBoom86 we almost pulled the trigger on a different one because I'm so damn antsy, but I'm glad I waited it out. FX for a great find in your area soon!
We got our crib set up today, I'm so excited! It's the babyletto Hudson crib in white and I love it! It ended up matching the ikea hemnes dresser in white stain about as well as possible. They're different textures but the shade matches better than the white would have. I know this is a boring post, but I endlessly googled before buying these to try to figure out which color dresser to buy, so maybe this will help someone else!
Of course now I'm even more anxious to just get the whole thing set up and decorated! I wish we could just order everything right now.
And... I finally feel like I got far enough to be an AW about it.
The H and I are major hikers (so much so that I run the state's hiking club) so we've been calling it "hiker baby" theme. All the views we get when hiking in the Black Hills, the animals from fox to chipmunk to bison, and just a general nature feel.
We are planning on doing clouds and hot air balloons gray and blue for a boy. Pink and gray for a girl. Maybe some elephants in too. We just picked the color swatches out. But we have to move our son into a bigger room (that still needs cleaned out and painted) before we can even do anything with the nursery.
Bringing back this thread because I want to keep seeing pics as people work on their nurseries!
This is ours so far! We still need to paint (light yellow), and do lots of decorating but the crib and dresser are up and it's starting to really feel like the baby's room which makes my heart happy
I can't pick a theme or colors. I've looked at so many sheets, prints, etc and just can't do it. I wish the stupid dresser wasn't oak so I could pick a white/gray crib and be done with it. I hate the thing. My goal this week is to find a crib though.
@coffee89 could you maybe white wash or stain the dresser? I know, there are so many themes. I wanted classic Winnie the Pooh from the beginning so we're sticking with that but I've been tempted by so many other color schemes, especially after finding out the sex ugh
We chose a Totoro theme because we're Ghibli fanatics slooooowly working my way through painting the walls. But I'm feeling proud of thee progress! I am no painter, so this is pretty darn good for me xD I've still got a bit to go, but I'm already happy when I step in the nursery.
@LGW2015 It's got a thick glossy coat off of it so I think I would have to strip it. Combined with the only pace we have to do that is the yard, I don't see it happening. Ideally I would sell it and buy both baby and DS new dressers, I might have to throw that idea out to my husband.
We are doing a "Little Man Cave" theme. I've ordered the crib and his blanket from Etsy so I'm just impatiently waiting for those to arrive. We still have a few items to clear out his room but we are getting close. I'm so ready to have his room finished!
We painted the nursery yesterday and just need to do one more coat of white for the trim and it's complete. This furniture arrived last week and that will be assembled this week. Curtains, window shades and wall decals are ready to be ordered. SO EXCITED!
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
Lol, she and our cats have been my self-appointed "supervisors". They watch me paint and if I stop, they hog my lap. I just hope they all love baby as much as they love belly!
So this is my first and I genuinely had no idea how huge cribs are, it's not a tiny room but with that thing in there it seems tiny. It has totally thrown off the layout I wanted for the room. Not a happy momma
All the furniture is in. I've got all my small new born and 0-3m sized clothes that I need. I have lots of stuff from my girls that works and I am working on ordering my custom wall decals, I just can't decide what theme or quote I want to use. The painter comes in three weeks to paint a nice border. I am so excited to have it all done soon!

This is the theme I'm going with for our 2nd boy, his crib and dresser are grey so I am thinking of painting the walls blue to match the lighter blue in the quilt. I didn't want to go over board with a theme this time so stars it is, plus I got it on crazy clearance at babies r us.
@samkins , have you considered a mini crib? They're about 12 inches shorter than a regular one and use Pac n play size sheets. We're planning to go this route as baby will be in our room and there is very little space.
We bought our changing table yesterday! Yay! Now all we have left for furniture is to purchase our crib. I chose the one I want (bottom right photo), but we haven't purchased it yet. I love how it all is coming together. At first I was skeptical about the chalkboard wall but now I am so glad that I did it! I absolutely love it. Hopefully the DH changes his mind and decides to still go with Wilder as a middle name. He recently voiced his opinion about not liking the middle name (after I already wrote it on Baby's wall). Ugh! Cross your fingers for me that he decides to change his mind. If not Archer Wilder then we'll go with Archer Wyatt, so at least I can keep the same "W" on the wall haha.
@kamroberts Your nursery looks so sweet! I love the hedgehog pillow! My husband and I really liked the same rocker you have, so hopefully we'll be getting it soon. It looks really nice in your room.
@AgentCarter thank you! My mom ordered us the rocking chair off of Amazon & it was a lot cheaper than in the store. I love it, it's so comfortable. Also, I got the hedgehog pillow off Amazon too. Amazon is the best! Haha
Husband and I currently have our bedroom in the would-be nursery while we finish our master bedroom and bathroom remodel, so I am very much behind in the nursery department. But we did just order cushions for our Dutailier glider!
This is our first but I'm honestly pretty meh about these things. I love decorating and am so inspired by these photos here, but by the time I get around to it it's usually last minute and never quite finished. At least the baby won't complain about bland walls!
