@Cricket Bug I'm so glad you guys are ok!! Poor DD, I hope she feels better soon. That girl that hit you sounds horrible-- I kind of wish you had slapped her!
  • @Cricket Bug so scary! Glad you guys are ok. New car shopping is definitely a silver lining! TP to the girl driving.

I have to ask this question because I feel like I'm the only person I know who feels this way; do any of you dislike hugs? I hug my H and my kids willingly and without being prompted, but I really dislike hugging anyone else. My MIL is a hugger, and today I tried to slip into my car without a hug, and she pouted about it until I got out and hugged her. Even more awk.

Teenagers wreaked havoc on our neighborhood last night. Ringing door bells and sounding off noise machines. Dogs were going crazy. I was so furious last night. I am so exhausted today I can't function properly.

My husband and other neighbor, who's also a teacher, hunted them down last night at 4 am. Went to their house and woke the parent (dad was out of town in China- go figure!) Lets just say that will not be happening again and they are in for it on Monday.
  • @Cricket Bug ! Glad you guys are okay. Sounds terrifying!

@Ah825 ugh I fear that. I live in a neighborhood 2 blocks away from this annual Bazaar a church holds every year. As I was watering my plants outside , 3 of my students walked by my house going toward the festival and I tried to hide my head as quick as possible as I DO NOT want them to know where I live!

Definitely not! I feel the same way and my family are big huggers! My mom in particular likes to hug a little too long for my liking and add a little rock into it. Drives.me.nuts! I really like my personal space (my fiance excluded obviously) and I know she doesn't see me often (we live in different provinces) but I have never liked hugs.

It was super difficult to get used to the two kiss cheek greeting in Quebec as well. My friends know I dislike both but it gets super awkward with strangers, coworkers, my fiancé's family, etc who all just expect it.
  • @Cricket Bug sorry you got into an accident and that the kid was so self centered about it. Glad you're all walking away from it OK!

@Themaritimemama eh hugs are ok, I just HATE smelling like that person's cologne after the fact. It seriously lingers for hours!!
i remember after my grandmas calling hours, I had hugged so many people I smelled like a brothel. :s
  • @Thscary Michelangelo is not only a completely legit, but admirable spirit animal. Should we all be so lucky! "You think you're tough, huh?! Y' think you're tough enough t' stand up to my HOT NUNCHUCK FURY?!"

@Themaritimemama You are definitely not alone. Both mine and DH's families are super touchy, so I spend a lot of time awkwardly avoiding being put into the position of my bubble being invaded. I love hugs from DH and DD, but they are the exception for sure.

  • @RedMar We love the y, joined a year ago. We had a couple of mediocre swim lessons with back up instructors but the main guy is good and DD went from screaming nonstop to being excited about the pool. We've also loved ballet lessons (maybe there should be quoted around that) there, only place in our area where they teach 18mo+. The machines / weights are good for my needs. Plus the clientele is way non-intimidating (from teens to seniors and all fitness levels). DD doesn't tolerate the childcare, but that's everywhere (church, basically any babysitter she doesn't know), hoping that changes once she starts school this fall.
  • @Cricket Bug I'm glad to hear you're alright, and proud of you for not succumbing to that dumb girl's level and freaking out. You took care of your babies and your business! I hope you love your new ride!

@themaritimemama I also dislike hugs. The rugby guys who play with my husband and the old guard who played with my dad are forever hugging and kissing and I haaaaaate it. I'm also known to be a terrible cuddler. Too fidgety.
  • Haha oh no...I hug everyone, now I'm scared that everyone is secretly shrinking away from it!  ;)
  • SLou24SLou24 member
@jbscmama haha, don't worry, I'm a hugger too!!! I try to read people though and feel like I'm pretty good at figuring out people for whom hugs aren't welcome... hopefully I'm as good at this as I think I am!
  • Not a hugger here. Love hugs from DH, nieces and nephews, and my dad (the people I'm closest to) but not from anyone else: brothers, mother, friends, etc. I am not a touchy-feely person at all. The people that know me have told me I put up a bitch vibe at first and have a resting bitch face but I do admit that my greatest fault is being too standoff-ish in general. A lot of my friends know I don't like being touched very much and respect that which is great. I'm super affectionate with DH and the people mentioned above (and will be with DD).

  • @ non-huggers: I'm a hugger, but have a really close friend like you all and totally respect her comfort boundaries. It's that much sweeter when she does initiate (i.e. after I got married, etc) since I know it's not her thing.
  • @Megan324 Hope your testing goes well! I have mine scheduled for Thursday morning and am feeling a little bit nervous.

Hugger here too, and also a kisser to a lesser extent (I already figured out how folks feel about this in UO a few weeks back). I just chalk it up to growing up in a large, close Italian family. I hope I don't creep people out haha
  • Just booked a hotel for this coming weekend - there's a surprise bday party for my aunt out near Burlington VT (about 4.5 or 5 hours away) so we're going to try driving Friday evening when E would normally go to bed (never done this before but he sleeps great in the car) and spend the weekend out that way.  Excited that my husband has the whole weekend off.

Funny how hotel priorities change once you have kids.  We now have to find hotels with suite-style rooms (so that E can go to bed in his pack'n'play and we can still watch TV/do something beyond 7:30pm, and definitely an indoor pool, because the little man loves to swim... not the easiest 2 things to find if you are trying to spend less than $200/night.  Ended up booking a hotel that in total came to just under $300 for the two nights.. here's hoping it's decent!!

  • @geminigirl16  thank you! Just waiting to be seen now- I was super late because there was an accident on one of the bridges I take into town. Got in the lab with 5 mins until they have to draw

  • Just catching up after the weekend...

@Cricket Bug So happy you and your babies are all ok - how scary!

RE: Hugging - I love hugging most people but hate hugging when people are just doing it out of habit. My MIL, for example - there's no feeling behind it...you just hug when you see her and then hug when you leave because that's what you do. Not a fan.

Just drank my Glucola. Ice-cold orange flavor was pretty delish, actually! Waaaay better than the room temp fruit punch I jad last time! Now jusy waiting my hour and then heading to work!

  • @AnnaS930  - we have done the after bedtime drive many times and it usually works well for us. The key to success is to keep the kid a close to asleep as possible when transferring from car to bed. I would suggest that when you get to the hotel, either you or your husband stay in the car with your son while the other one checks in and gets the pack n play set up in the room. Be prepared to do a very short version of your bedtime routine if he does wake up. For us, this is a small amount of warm milk and singing a song or 2.

  • @megan324 Nice timing! Did they give you the drink beforehand to consume before you got there then?

I think my doctor signed me up for the longer one straight off the bat  :/ I was told to fast beforehand and to expect that the testing would take at least 2 hours. I get cranky with out food at the best of times so am dreading this test!
  • @AnnaS930 My family always did the after bedtime drive.  My traveled to South Carolina every year for vacation and we would start out right after dad got out of work (5:30ish) it was a 13 hour drive, so he'd drive through the night while we all slept and then when we got there.   We'd either check in if we could, or mom would throw the swimsuits on us, take us to the beach and dad would catch up on Zzz's in the car until we could check in.   I loved it!   It was like you went to bed in NY and woke up in SC and it was so fast to get there.  Lol, I still wonder how my dad did it though, but he loved that drive.

@marajay6 - yes! We have done short drives around bedtime before and he usually does wake up.  We'll have him in his overnight diaper and pj's just in case he stays asleep and one of us can run up to the room and get the packnplay set up.. otherwise we'll do a short book/lotion him up and get him back down.

Last time we did a similar drive was going to MIL's house. He woke up and she was super interactive with him.. I nearly punched her in the throat. Then she was super loud in the bathroom getting herself ready for bed, humming/singing to herself, etc and when she came out she goes "WHAT ARE YOU DOING STANDING UP IN YOUR CRIB?!" which of course.. made him scream because he got some attention and wanted to come out. I'm shocked I didn't kill her that weekend, she's so clueless and annoying.

  • @AnnaS930  - My dad is the same way about waking the up DS when we drive there late at night. He gets so excited to see him and wants to play with him when it is 11PM. DH and I just want to get him to go to bed easily, so I usually have to remind my dad to wait until morning.

  • 20 minutes into my glucose screening.  Feeling a little cotton-headed and headachy (although I already had an earache, so that may be why).

They gave me orange (chilled).  I was expecting fruit punch, but the orange was surprisingly not terrible.  I wouldn't drink it as a beverage, but it tasted like melted down popsicles with a faint hint of carbonation.

I chugged it so it would be over faster.  It made my teeth ache a little, but it wasn't the nightmare I was expecting.

H leaves today for a work trip till Saturday.  It's the first time in three years and only second since we moved from our hometown.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself as our friends are usually only free on weekends, like I shouldn't stay in every night...
  • Is it 5 pm yet?! I have NO energy today, horrible heartburn and a sore back and I just want to be done with work go home!!

  • So a coworker just stopped me in the hallway and literally asked me to do a full 360 degree turn in front of her.  And then proceeded to tell me I "don't even look pregnant from behind."  Ummm...thanks...?  I mean, I know she means well and it doesn't *bother* me, specifically, especially when followed up by a compliment (of sorts) but how awkward!  Seriously, people!

@JennM205 I'm pretty sure if somebody asked me to twirl around I'd be all "Wait. What? Why? Do I have chocolate on my butt?" It would not be cute.
  • @JennM205 - I would definitely spin very slowly, very confused trying to look at my rear end in the process to see what I couldn't see.

I actually saw a picture of myself from behind (my parents took it while I was walking ahead with my son) and said to myself "Hey! I don't look pregnant from behind!"  So I totally get where the coworker was coming from. I tend to surprise people as I turn around and the belly emerges.. still odd to request a twirl
