Re: June Randoms Thread

  • I'm weirdly excited about labor. Apparently your mind/body do forget about all that pain.
Speak for yourself, girl! I'm more terrified than ever!
Me, too. I actually had a great birth experience last time, but I have this fear that it will be the complete opposite this time.

  • Second guessing my decision to go do the glucose tolerance test today. I'm only 26+1 and I feel like that's too early. I was supposed to do it next week but the NP recommended I do it at 26 weeks because of my recurrent headaches.

It's supposed to be 100+ degrees the next two days and we don't have AC
It's not supposed to be this hot here :(  Especially not in early June. We got one of those portable ACs 2nd hand last summer and it helps a little. It's  the kind that sits on the floor and we set it up in our living room/main part of our small house. I also have a large hot/cold pack from Walgreens i plan to slip in my pillow case if it's  too hot to sleep. Oh, and Popsicles. What are your stay cool plans?
We have 4 fans going in the house. Lots of water and we will probably take the dogs the the river that runs through town to cool off.

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom I'm hanging out in the lab right now in the most uncomfortable chairs ever and all I want to do is pass out and zzzz...good luck!

@fireflygirl12 @KimmySchmidt going into labor gives me anxiety. I can't imagine doing one thing for over 15 continuous hours. Except maybe sleep.

@kosmo86 lots of Disneyland fanatics in CA. Have you been to the convention yet? I haven't, but it looks fun/interesting.
  • @frogdog06 yuck! I haven't even left the house! DH is being lazy  :p

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom Good luck with the test! I had mine at 24 weeks exactly (for no real medical reason other than that's when my OB said I needed to lol) and she didn't have any qualms about it being too early.

So we are headed back to Dallas today. The whole town is pretty much flooded, some sections up the the doors of cars. News says it doesn't look like its clearing up anytime soon and it will be this way until later tomorrow. The thunderstorm last night lasted from 230am to 630am and Deklyn peed the bed out of pure fear. I've never heard thunder so loud in my life. Needless to say we were up the whole night. We went to an aquarium this morning but decided it's best if we don't wait to see if the weather gets any worse. It probably won't but it's okay. At least we had a great day on the beach yesterday and went on some rides last night. We'll try again another year lol

  • Waiting the hour now. We got here super late and I'm starving! We had almost made it to the hospital when I realized I'd forgotten the lab order so we had to go back home and get it. I got the option of the three flavors and picked orange and I actually liked it  :D I think it helped that it was cold.

@seitzy3 ugh so sorry! Hopefully you can get away another time soon, at least for a couple days. At least you and the girls still get to enjoy having DH home!

  • Cold orange glucola is oddly tasty! My OB said some people actually ask her if they can have another one. Hahaha.

Welp I'm exhausted. Have been up since 6 bc I had to proctor another SAT exam. Home now and DS has a fever (pretty sure he's getting 2yr molars) and all I want to do is pass the f out. Hopefully this Motrin puts him to sleep...
  • @seitzy3 did you come down to Galveston? We are pretty wet here in Houston
  • Yes! @lovelylauren86  I think the rain may have stopped but it was miserable there. We went to moody gardens this morning and then hit the road. Some of roads there were closed due to the flooding and we decided to come back another time when we can enjoy the outdoors more.

It's been miserable here! My little guy and I have serious cabin fever. Hopefully your ladies did ok on the ride back. Maybe y'all can check out great wolf? It's pretty fun for a staycation.
  • Went to a babywearing demo/meet up. We were the only ones without a child, I felt so awkward. I do think now I'll wait till after birth to buy a carrier. Then we went to buy buy baby, got talked into a pretty expensive car seat and stroller. Cybex Aton Q anyone? It does fit my Prius C very well so maybe worth it.
  • @lovelylauren86 we actually looked into that before we had Galveston in mind but then realized it would be around $500 for one night and Chris didn't think it would be worth it. But I for sure want to check that out at some point. It's currently 87 and sunny in my town, go figure! Did it clear up in Houston?

@RedMar sooo did he nap for you?

  • @jhems776 the cybex is pretty awesome!  It's one of the smallest (if not the smallest) infant seats and is super light.

  • In an effort to get more calories I had a protein shake right before bed.  Worst decision ever.  I kept falling asleep and then puking in my mouth.  It was horrific.

@seitzy3 sorry to hear about the flooding! It sounds like you guys made the most of the trip though!

and regarding the nap, we didn't put him down bc i feared he would take a longggg nap and then wouldn't go to bed at a decent hour. DH let me lay down for a while bc I was falling asleep standing up! Officially 45mins away from putting him to bed and am so happy with no-nap decision now!

Drove 2.5 hours to meet up with my sister and her family at
Santa's Village today (a kiddo theme park with a Christmas theme). E loved the carousel, antique cars, train and feeding the reindeer. He did cry for 15 minutes on the ride there and I nearly lost my mind, but he fell asleep after that and we had a great day
Looking forward to a relaxing day tomorrow, some errands to do and not much else.

    @MojieJo @PSUBecky23

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
  • Today is the Rock and roll marathon and it goes through the main part of town. Both of my jobs are in the most touristy parts of San Diego and I get to deal with the traffic and road closures twice... Wish me luck to not be super late to either job...
  • I just got a yellow watermelon! It's heaven
  • I decided it would be fun to walk the 1 mile to the Y with my 3yo for her swim lesson. Without a stroller. Or, apparently, a water bottle or a wallet. It was a little bit fun, but I should have factored in more time for our pace (and packed water!) I'm exhausted but in a happy summery, sweaty way. :)
  • Driving DD to ballet yesterday morning some twit driving her mom's car t-boned us (we were doing 90km/hr). We are okay, but DD has nasty whiplash. Both cars totaled, so now I am car shopping with all my colourful bruises and trying to sort out insurance. It is still bothering me that even with everything going on (me - pregnant chick holding her screaming little girl) the other driver just kept wailing how screwed she was, and how her mom was going to kill her. If I could go back in time I would bitch slap her and tell her how lucky she is that she didn't kill everyone.

My other random: I am super excited to get a new car. DH and I had been talking about it for a few days, and apparently forgot to touch wood? #silverlinings?

  • @Cricket Bug That's so scary! Did you go get checked out? My doc got upset at me when I got in a minor car accident during my first pregnancy and didn't check in with them. Sounds like yours was pretty impactful. Hope you and your DD both feel ok over the next few days! And that you find an awesome family car! And ugh on the other driver not focusing on making sure you guys were ok, the self pity party could have waited
  • @abberson it really was. Especially all of the 'what ifs' afterwards. Oh yeah, as soon as DD calmed down enough to tell me it was her neck, we had an ambulance there, and they did dopplers and a non stress test on me too with a follow up u/s this week. Little dude seemed great. When I was pregnant with DD I slipped and fell on my bum down my porch steps and didn't page my midwife. I still remember the scolding I got!

@Cricket Bug I am so glad you guys are ok and I truly wish you could go back in time  and punch that selfish bitch in the vadge. Was she texting? Bc she sounds super guilty the way she reacted...

@Cricket Bug glad to hear that you, baby and your daughter are ok! She totally sounds like she needed a slap - she was traveling fast and could have killed someone.

@abberson  how do you like the "Y"? I've been considering joining the month of July for swimming and day care while I work out. Plus it's an air conditioned spot- I don't see myself working out in the summer heat, but I need to stay in shape somehow!
  • @RedMar Not that I noticed, but I wouldn't be surprised. Even the cop didn't buy her 'I thought is was a 4 way stop' but what do you do after the fact. At least she was charged on the scene and everyone that stopped realized how ridiculous she was. I like the money shot punches that you suggest (vag/boob) and think that I should upgrade my stand by bitch slaps and throat punches for your more memorable options.

  • @Cricket Bug so glad to hear you and your little one are ok! I definitely agree that it sounds like she was probably texting or something of the sort.

My random- my 15 month old keeps taking his pants and his diapers off during nap times. I've tried to catch him as soon as I hear him up but the little stinker keeps getting away with it. And he thinks it's funny because he just laughs everytime you come in to get him. So far we've lucked out and no dirty diapers.
  • @CricketBug I'm glad you all are not seriously injured, and I hope DD is feeling better soon. I hope that girls mom does punish the spoiled brat. Ugh
