Anyone's LO have baby acne? Any ways to help speed up the process of it going away? How long did it take to clear up on its own? Thanks
Yeah, Holly has it. From what I've been told it just has to run its course. I put breast milk on it which totally it clears it up but more then shows up elsewhere by the next day. I hope it goes away soon! We've got a pedi appt Monday and I'm planning on asking about it then.

Corbin has it. I've been doing the same thing with the breast milk. It's actually what our pediatrician suggested along with wiping his face with a warm washcloth a few times a day. Those things have helped, but it just comes back a day or 2 later.
  • Thanks @LadySamLady and @dsmith211 I'll just be patient I guess

  • How long did you guys swaddle your LO at night?  I feel like the process of getting swaddled sometimes wakes Harper up and am on the fence whether I should keep swaddling her or not.  She's still only 11 days old.

DS is 15 days old, and we're still swaddling, but he LOVES it and sleeps so much better swaddled. At night, I usually feed, change diaper, swaddle, and then let him eat again until he falls asleep.

I just got a woombie and I love it!!! So easy since it's basically a body bag. Worth checking out. My Harper Rose loves it ;)

DS2 is one month and we're inconsistently swaddling since he's kicking his legs out now. Before that, we were swaddling arms out because he preferred it that way. He's sleeping just as well without it.

I'd say, keep using it until it doesn't make sense-- whether it's that she'll sleep well without it, or shows signs of rolling, or doesn't do well with it.

  • @valerie4786, LO is 7 weeks and we are still swaddling. Anytime we put him down unswaddled, he will startle himself awake in minutes. He fights the swaddle because he wants his hands, but until that startle reflex stops, he's out of luck.

We gave up on swaddling early, definitely before the 2 week mark, because LO hates it and sleeps well without. I second guess it though because everyone says swaddling is the thing to do, but we have every swaddle contraption that exists and she's not into any of them at all. Just last week I wasted more $ on the love to dream swaddle and big shocker, she hates it.

My baby also hates the swaddle. We've tried some stuff too and since we can't even get him to sleep in the 3 sleeping devices we've bought him, we probably won't be buying anymore swaddlers

    Wise words. I'm stoopit. :)
  • We only swaddle before bedtime and DD is 17 days old. The rest of the time she sleeps fine without it but before bed it helps her to calm down quicker and she'll sleep longer with one on
  • I swaddled my son til about 4 months- he slept so well with it that I was terrified to transition away from it, but the zippadee zip eased that transition. This baby seems slightly less into the swaddle, sometimes I feel like it keeps her from working out her gas because when I unwrap her in the morning she farts like 15 times. Trying to track down my miracle blanket from my girlfriends who have all been passing it around so I can try swaddling her with legs out and see if that helps.

When the new-found-love-for-a-paci pops out as you attempt a crib nap - waahhhhh!

Dh and I are brainstorming something to keep the paci in and want to take it to the shark tank! So far we have nada, but there has to be a way!
My husband and I were having the same conversation! Too bad straps around her face to keep the paci stuck in her mouth sounds too cruel...
I think wubbanubs are supposed to stay in better? They're the ones attached to a beanie baby type thing.

Can they sleep with those though? It is it a SIDS risk?

  • Question for moms of FF babies, how old is your baby and how many oz are they taking at each feeding? We're right around the general guideline of 2.5 oz per lb of body weight. Cora is taking 3 oz at each feeding. During the day she'll eat every 2-3 hours, sometimes 1.5 hours. At night she can go 4-5 hours. She'd probably suck down anything I give her. She eats quick and never spits up. I don't want to over feed her, but I'm wondering how I should know when to increase it and hoping she'd go longer stretches during the day.

I have no idea, my little gremlin won't take a paci of any kind.

It won't help quite yet, but when LO is old enough to grab it and put it back in, I've known people to sprinkle 6+ pacis around baby's arm range so that when it falls out, he/she doesn't fully rouse while trying to grab for one-- because there's a bunch there so they'll hit on one quickly.
Sometimes if im really lucky the paci falls out in Ezra's range and he turns his head and pops it back in. But frankly I think he gets a sick joy out of watching me scramble to find it and pop it back in.

@Jparke2 and @yogahh, you've got an investor here. Both DH and I have noticed that if that damn paci didn't constantly pop out LO would probably sleep longer, especially during the more restless stage of sleep. Wubbanubs...grumble...just use a regular pacifier. They really seem to make no difference and are impossible to clean if you have a happy spitter.

@kbrands7, that's brilliant! Making mental note for when LO is able to grab.
  • Anyone ever deal with thrush? I was sure DD's tongue was coated with breastmilk that was just stubborn and not going away yet I just kind of paired it all together... Her mouth is coated with white patches, she's been way fussy the past several days and super gassy, and she's had these red sores on her butt that we can't get rid of. Now I notice my nipples are red and sore and I attributed that to her poor latch.

Definitely thrush! You need to go to the doc for a prescription for you and your LO!

Thank you! We went to her ped and they gave her oral nystatin and nystatin cream for the sores on her butt... They told me to just get a 7 day monistat pack or athletes foot cream? and rub the cream on my nipples after every feed and clean them really well before every feed/ pump with white vinegar/water solution. I got the monistat because somehow rubbing athletes foot cream on my nipples just didn't sound right.
  • Those who use the woombie-- original or comfort and harmony? What's the difference ?
  • I know this may be silly but is thumb sucking okay? DD breaks out of swaddles and shoves her hands in her mouth. I was considering using mitts as part of a onesie at night but I'm not sure if it's a sids risk or more of one than her unswaddling herself. Can't wait to use the snuza but she's such a peanut that we have to wait until her cord falls off.

We just started using the Comfort and Harmony this week. Not sure how it's different than the original but we like it and Harper seems comfortable. I was worried it was too tight but once she's zipped up she seems ok.

For those not wanting to switch pacifiers check out the binki bear. They make a small version in pink or brown (I think they call it my first) and a bigger version in a few more colors I believe. Amazon! DS is obsessed which is an issue, but, it's nice to be able to use any pacifier and remove it easily for washing the bear!

Thumb sucking releases similar comfort hormones as nursing and using a paci. The good thing is she'll never lose it, the bad thing is you'll never be able to take it away ;)
i don't believe it's a SIDS risk because she is able to move her arm independently, so if it gets in the way of her breathing she can move her hands.
  • @TinaTho I wish DS would start sucking a thumb or finger! It's great when they can easily self soothe. I would try swaddling him with just one arm out.

Aria is 3 1/2 weeks now, and I am always wondering if we are under or over feeding her! We mostly FF (with some pumped breast milk to supplement), and it's crazy how fast she has increased her intake since the hospital, where she didn't even finish those tiny newborn pre-made enfamil bottles.

Our pediatrician basically told us to let her eat as much and as often as she wants and that she can't really over-eat (she'll spit us if she overdoes it)--just let her do her thing!

Right now she eats in anywhere from 1.5 hour to 4-5 hour intervals (longer stretches at night when its FF only and no breastmilk, as formula digests slower, shorter when she's fussy or more "active" during the day). She's knocking back up to 130 ml/cc at this point (4+ oz), especially after longer intervals. Crazy! Sometimes I think that *surely* she can't eat that much and make a smaller bottle (hate to waste the formula), only to have to make a bit more after she sucks it dry and demands more.

She's already gained a lb from her birth weight and our pediatrician was really happy with her progress, so I guess she's eating fine!
  • I hope this question hasn't already been asked on another thread, but I read through this one and didn't see it so here goes.

DS has mild hypospadias so even if we wanted to get him circumcised we can't do it until at least six months when they have to do the surgery to fix it. Anyway, today I was changing his diaper and it was a pretty good one where the poop pretty much surrounded his penis. As I was cleaning it I noticed a little white stuff under the portion of foreskin that is there (it's not all the way around because of the hypospadias and I also know the white stuff is normal). I didn't pull it back, but when I cleaned it off it was full of wipe fibers. I then pushed the foreskin back just a little (I didn't force it) and pulled more of the white stuff out and there was A LOT of wipe fibers in that as well.

Mom's with boys, did you ever notice wipe fibers causing an issue with your little ones? Did they just kind of clean out on there own? I know you aren't supposed to pull the foreskin back because it can cause issues, but it seems like getting the fibers in there could be more of an issue.

I haven't seen any fibers or residue from wipes, nor any white specks anywhere. We did not get Henry circumsized. What brand of wipes are you using? We use Water Wipes (on Amazon) and really love them. No residue, no diaper rash, very moist. We air dry really well after each change by blowing air and patting dry with a clean cloth diaper insert rag thing. (We don't cloth diaper but those things are soooo handy!!)
