  • This shirt I am wearing was a major mistake. I should have wore a tank top or something underneath. My pregnancy boobs CANNOT be contained!!!

@PSUBecky23 FWIW I love my CRV overall but I'm not happy with the "depth" or length on the backseats. With our infant car seat base (I assume it's normal sized?) the base extends many, many inches past where the seat ends. Thankfully, I have a "foot" on my car seat base but without it the lack of depth would make me very nervous.

  • @ajn092 good to know. Never would have thought to check that. I don't even have any idea where my infant car seat is. (I should probably get on with digging everything out. I'm so lazy about preparing for this baby.)

  • The leader at my La Leche League meetings is pregnant for the fourth time (she has 3 children). She is a surrogate for her best friend this time around! She is 19 weeks pregnant and I think that is SO COOL!

Would any of you ladies be willing to do that if the opportunity arose?
  • @Sbrown721  I wish I could say that I would lol but honestly I don't like being pregnant so it's hard enough for me knowing that I'm getting a baby at the end!
I do think it's an amazing thing to do for someone but I just couldn't

  • @Sbrown721 - I wouldn't 100% rule it out, but I'd probably be more likely to say yes to surrogacy if I wrapped up having my own kids at a younger age. I'm not sure I'd want to be pregnant at an older age.
  • Randomness:  Today is my dad's first chemo treatment and as childishly naive as it is, I really wish this one treatment could be a miracle worker and immediately start giving him energy back.  Not saying he wouldn't ever have to have them again, as he will, every week for the rest of his life, but just wish it'd immediately start working and giving him some energy.
  • @LakeR2014 thinking of your dad today!
  • @Sbrown721 - A coworker/friend of mine has been a surrogate 3 times (once for one family, and twice for another).  I would absolutely consider it, but I think mentally/emotionally I might have a hard time with it.. and my husband seemed a little put off by the whole idea when I mentioned it to him.  I would absolutely want to be done having my own children by the time of surrogacy, but my coworker is probably in her early 40s and just had the last kiddo last year, so can certainly do it a bit later in life.

  • Blech, I am not feeling well today. I've had a couple days like this recently. I haven't eaten a ton but I feel overly full/nauseous ... I wonder if gastric emptying is super slow right now, or if baby is just very high and making me feel fuller than I am.  I took a couple Tums hoping for relief but made no difference.
Dear baby, please allow the food to pass out of my stomach, and hey.. might as well allow it to move smoothly the rest of the way out while you're at it. That would be really cool.

  • I think it is incredibly amazing of anyone to be a surrogate. Such selflessness involved! I would definitely want to give birth to my own children beforehand if I did do it. I think partners may have a hard time with wrapping their heads around the idea as @AnnaS930 mentioned. It's hard for me to say as a FTM if I would do it.
  • @COmama87 - when my sister was struggling with some fertility issues I knew I would be a surrogate for her should she ever ask - luckily, as with your sister, she was able to carry a pregnancy!

As for my friend - I'm not sure about the family that she had only 1 baby for, I know she still gets some videos/updates but not sure how far beyond that the bond goes.  For the family she's had 2, she visits them a couple times a year, and they come up this way as well and they speak nearly daily.  The mother also acknowledged her on Mother's day thanking her for letting her become a mom, which I thought was just really really touching.  I think it's all about finding a family that you're a good fit for, and the other way around.

  • @COmama87 She didn't know until she was 7 months pregnant?! I can't imagine! My friend went to the doctor not feeling well and found out she was 6 months pregnant. She went back the next day and found out she was having twins!

I was kept awake for an hour last night bc baby was having a dance party! Can't imagine not knowing!

@Sbrown721 If I was younger and had totally uncomplicated pregnancies, I would most certainly consider being a surrogate. My pregnancies haven't been terribly high risk, but with low progesterone in first tri, high blood pressure, and GD, there have been added risks that leave me pretty confident this should be my last.

Also, regarding not knowing. I took forever to show with my first, and I didn't start feeling her kicking really hard until 3rd tri. I often thought that I could have not realized I was pregnant with her until I was around 7 months. This pregnancy/baby, not so much. I started showing at 13/14 weeks and she's been kicking to crap out of me since 21 weeks. (But I love it!)

  • Do you guys feel safe eating chipotle?  I just got a real craving and I'm kinda on the fence...
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Megan324 - I don't like Chipotle, but if I did I would still eat there.  There were some cases of E. Coli but I haven't heard of any for a while now.. as far as I know (and am likely to be wrong) the risks of having e. coli when pregnant are mostly because of the profuse diarrhea dehydrating you, unlike other foodborne illnesses that can cause actual harm to the fetus.  Again, I could definitely be wrong about that and I'm not feeling well enough to do googling about e. coli right now, haha.

Long story short - if I liked Chipotle, pregnancy would not stop me from eating there, but as with others - I'm not overly concerned with food restrictions while pregnant.

  • @AnnaS930  my original hesitation was a warning message I got when placing my order about their pork not meeting their anti biotics standards. But when I read what it actually meant I'm totally not worried.
    plus I don't eat the pork anyway...lol

I had actually given this Somme serious thought while a close friend struggled with infertility. To be an ideal candidate you should be finished having your own children, so I wasn't quite ready. Fortunately for them, one of their OVF rounds stuck and she was able to have twins!

But I think if the circumstances were right, if I was healthy enough and I knew the couple well enough, that I would do it in a heartbeat.

  • @camichael84 did you get to do progesterone suppositories too?

I would definitely be a surrogate for my brother or for very close friends but only if I was done having my own children.
  • So intrigued by people who don't know they're pregnant!  I have a friend whose 30 year old brother was born as a total surprise to her mom....her mother had no idea she was pregnant up until delivery.  A total normal family, very prominent in the community so it's so funny for me to imagine.
I seriously knew right away because of extremely painful boobs etc....BUT then again I was also obsessed with getting pregnant and its all I thought about.
  • @MrsVoorhees Yes, progesterone suppositories during both pregnancies. They sucked, but alone wouldn't have been enough to stop me from having more. All the early first-tri spotting really messed with me this pregnancy.

We had a mom at one of the daycares I worked at that didn't realize she was pregnant with her third until she was 6 months. We all thought it was funny since she'd already been pregnant twice before. (This was before I had children. Now I get how different pregnancies can be and how this could happen.)

I also have a friend whose mom didn't realize she was pregnant with her until something like 7 months. She'd been told she would never have children, so she thought all her symptoms were in her mind.

  • @camichael84 me too, both pregnancies. Some of my panties are still hard from leaking through panty liners lol.

I I think if I didn't know or suspect I was pregnant, I would definitely think I had cancer. Lol I'm tired all the time, weird pains in my abdomen, nauseous...definitely dying.
  • @MrsVoorhees Haha. That reminds me how little I miss the suppositories. My girls are totally worth it, but there is nothing glamorous about 8 weeks of suppositories.

  • Question for you ladies - we have the hospital tour tonight of the baby wing....FTM....any questions that you think I should ask?  I guess what to pack vs what they provide?

  • @jbscmama They are likely going to provide everything except toiletries for you and clothes for you and baby to go home in. Not to saying packing things isn't a good idea, but they provide a lot. They do tours all the time, so they will cover almost everything you need to know about the hospital. I can't remember needing to ask any specific questions.

  • I would not eat at Chipotle partly because of the E Coli outbreak and partly because I don't like what they have to offer, anyway.  In regards to E Coli, it can absolutely be dangerous to you whether you are pregnant or not.  It's what caused my son to go into renal failure and need dialysis at only 18 months old, among several other complications that thankfully he has bounced back from.  Another little girl in my school district wasn't so fortunate and needed a kidney transplant, and there are cases every year where people die from it.  We have no idea how or where he got it, but it's not something that you only get diarrhea from (although MOST people who get sick with E Coli, this is their story).  The healthier you are the less likely you are for it to turn into HUS - hemolytic uremic syndrome, which is what my son had, but it's not unheard of for adults to get it, too.  There are several cases within my HUS support group that involved adults.  E coli is a very very scary bacteria and I think it's hard to really understand that until you know someone who has been effected.  It has absolutely changed my perspective (that and the "it really can happen to anyone" perspective, because I think most people naturally think "it wouldn't happen to me.")

Agreed. I think questions will pop up as they give you information.. other than that, they'll cover the good stuff!  Enjoy - I really had fun on the hospital tour, definitely the highlight of the birthing class I took, and I felt really comfortable when I went into labor.

  • Anyone working at a desk job concerned about baby's ability to move into the correct placement? I go to a chiropractor and try to exercise often (I know I need to exercise more). I hate sitting in an office chair all day. I may drag in an exercise ball soon here.
  • @Sbrown721 i hadnt thought too much on that, but i always try to stretch out when i get home so shes not all smashed up in there. i do get up and stand/walk around several times a day but it is a lot of sitting.
  • @camichael84 Thank you!! Just was thinking, am I supposed to have a list prepared!? But that makes sense.  I think just seeing where we're going to be will put my mind at ease.
  • @Sbrown721 - I work a desk job and did last time as well. Baby was in fine position.  I keep activity up during both, but I think even sedentary a baby could likely find its way to the right position

I don't trust chipotle so I won't eat it lol. Do you guys trust McDonald's soft serve? Since I'm a teacher I have a million free coupons for ice cream and sundaes but I'm not sure if I trust the cleanliness of the machines!
  • @Ah825 - I don't trust soft serve. It's really going to depend on the employees who clean the machine, and I hear McDonald's in general has pretty strict cleanliness requirements but still. You don't know if the guy that was supposed to clean it last did a lazy or superb job.
